--and that would make it completely okay.
Anyway, gotta quote something:
"...the most beautiful one wins. It's a very mental contest."
-Marissa Kirisame, Touhou Project: Silent Sinner in Blue
I haven't read Silent Sinner in Blue , but that sums up the philosophy of the entire TouHou Project. (Apparently it's pronounced like toe and hoe, not like you.) In a duel where characters can lay down literal hundreds of instant defeat attacks in the span of a few seconds, evasion is the only substantial defense, and mesmerizing patterns of attacks, and illusory feints, are the only real ways to make yourself deadlier. Fine craftsmanship and quick wits are the virtues emphasized, rather than raw destructive force.
Somebody hooked me up with some English patched versions of the TouHou Project, up to game 11, and half-translated versions of 12 and 12.5. I'm not sure if these patched versions are really legal, but Team Shanghai Alice has really turned out a great product here, and I really recommend giving the series a look.
Imperishable Night is my favorite shooter in the series, closely followed by Phantasm of Flower View. (This would go to first place in a hurry, if the balance was a bit better and I had more people to play against.) For the Vs. fighter spin-off, I'm partial to Scarlet Weather Rhapsody, now that I figured out how skill cards work, as opposed to Spell Cards.
If you have some extra jingle in your pocket that you need to unload, any one of those three is a lovely twist on their genre.
