Pending Else / PE Page 31
« on: November 24, 2010, 12:40:42 AM »
Page 31 is up!

Thanks goes to Gersolov for proofreading, and to Talyn, LoCk, and Medik_Jackal for letting me murder them horribly, and to Digital_Vulpine for escorting Medik to his...uh...semi-final judgement.

Hmm...

That's all for now.

Rules and Announcements / Regarding the lack of new content
« on: October 20, 2010, 01:10:00 PM »
So...I'm sure you've noticed I've not updated, well, anything for a while now.

School has been eating all my time.  I'm doing pretty well in all my classes (except maybe the one, but I'm working on it), and I feel it's best if I keep it that way, for the time being.

Maybe once I've finished the online class I'll manage to get some work done on my personal projects, but for now, school takes precedence.

Sorry about the usual.

Rules and Announcements / The Archives
« on: October 13, 2010, 06:42:32 PM »
The ever-awesome Tvorsk has written a program, and extracted [most of] the old forum, and placed it here in the Archive, which you should all now see at the bottom of the category list on the front page of the forum.

You can't reply to anything in the Archive.  That's what the new forums are for.  Nothing you said there is reflected in your current post counts/rankings.  All those posts are credited to guest accounts, here.  Yes, everything in there is listed in chronological order, instead of reverse chronological like we're used to.

Still, it's pretty sweet.

(For anyone who's wondering, Tvorsk said this is pretty much why he offered to do this.)

Rules and Announcements / Forum Themes
« on: October 09, 2010, 11:37:01 PM »
In case you're wondering why this forum looks so very plain, I just haven't gotten around to customizing it, yet.

I plan to customize the main theme, and I think I'll be able to have multiple skins available for all of you to choose from.

Rules and Announcements / Canon Fodder
« on: October 09, 2010, 11:33:21 PM »
Canon Fodder is essentially my new home page.  It'll serve as a hub for my comics and projects, as well as my art/music/writing galleries.  You'll also note that the forum is part of Canon Fodder, and not Beastling or Pending Else.

So if you want to know what I'm up to, or which of my comics have updated, Canon Fodder is the place to go.

Rules and Announcements / Rules
« on: October 09, 2010, 11:29:24 PM »
Rules here are about the same as on the old forum:

-Keep it clean. No swearing, spamming, or putting  other people down.

-Try to stay on topic (unless you're in Off-Topic, of course)

-Avoid Caps Lock abuse; it doesn't bother me much, but some people hate it. Use Caps only for emphasis on certain words, not whole posts.

-Use english, not Leet or Haxxor, or whatever. This is here to help keep things organized and understandable.  If you want to speak a language I don't, be advised that I'll probably ask you to translate it.

-You may use avatars of your own. As with the rest of the board, keep it clean. You can use other people's work, but only if you have their permission to do so.

-Don't use the names of Characters from my comics as a username. Don't pretend to be me or any of the mods.

-If you don't like something I've done, let me know. I can't fix something if I don't know it's wrong.

-Other than that, follow the rules of common sense and courtesy and you'll be all right.

On the Origin of Sanctuary Keep.

Yes, yes.  I hate having an empty looking forum, so I'm putting older stuff in here.

Stories / Why I Like Layers
« on: October 09, 2010, 11:17:03 PM »
So...while I was moving everything to the new site, I decided to integrate the Why I Like Layers rant into the Writings page.

I think it carried over pretty well.

Beastling / Beastling
« on: October 09, 2010, 11:12:45 PM »
Well...not a shiny new site, but just a copy of the old one, but Beastling has a new home.

I do plan to continue that project, someday.

EDIT:  Boy, do I ever need to rebuild that site.  So many poor design decisions...

Pending Else / Pending Else
« on: October 09, 2010, 11:11:14 PM »
The new address for Pending Else is http://pendingelse.crimsonflagcomic.com/

Behold the shiny new website, with its well organized navigation bar, and RSS news feed, and all that shiny stuff.

Behold the new cast pages for Mhero and Issac

Seriously, though.  Virmir and Tvorsk helped a lot with this new and improved site.  Thank them if you happen to wander that way.

(Also, Virmir is my new webhost.  Please treat him nicely.)

Let's see what interesting things we put in this shiny new forum...

Arts / Canon Fodder Galleries
« on: October 09, 2010, 11:05:16 PM »
So...to start this area off, I'll just place a link to my shiny new galleries page.  I'll make a page for my 100 Themes, later, since all of the links in the old one need updated, now...

Zombies / Zombies
« on: October 09, 2010, 11:02:50 PM »
So...Zombies...

Basic Premise:
I made a game in which you kill zombies. By the hundreds.
Literally.

It works like this:

You are a guy in white armor.
Zombies come in various colors.
Slow zombies are green.
Moderate speed zombies are blue.
Fast zombies are red.
Boss zombies are Purple.
Gun zombies are grey and blue.  You'll know them when you see 'em.

The Controls:
Press Spacebar to Attack.
Use the Arrow Keys or the NUMPAD controls to move.

You have 255 hit points. Every tick a zombie is touching you, you lose one HP, and your white circle turn a bit more red. You hit zero HP, you die. A single zombie, if left unchecked, can kill you in about 3 seconds. 2 can do it twice as fast.

Walls are randomly generated around the map. Zombies can get stuck on these (as can you) but will, inexplicably, teleport around them if they get caught in a corner. I'm working on this.

When you kill a zombie (most only take one hit), he leaves a little red spot where he was. The red spots grow, and eventually turn the whole map red. They don't do anything else.

Zombies come from the edges of the map continuously. Until a few days ago, they'd come slowly until around 1000 zombies, then they'd abruptly surge in and kill you. I've since fixed that, but I need to rework the spawn scripts.

Occasionally, a Boss Zombie will appear. They take 5-10 hits to kill, and have a slightly longer range than other zombies.

The only objectives in this game are to stay alive and build up a high score. Slower zombies are worth less than faster zombies, and the bosses are worth more.

Installation:

XNA:

Download the archive (see the "Download" thread), then run either the setup.exe file.  Don't use the program manifest, because it doesn't always work right.

Then you run the program off the Start menu.

During the installation, it will download and install the XNA runtime redistributable if you don't already have it, so no separate file to hunt down.  On the downside, Microsoft gets to put their fingers into it and put in a meaningless EULA.  Bleh.

You can also get the XNA 3.1 redistributable here

JAVA:

Download the archive.  (See the "Download" thread)

You will need to have the Java Runtime Environment installed on your computer. You can download that (for free) at http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

It is the second one down on the downloads list and, as of the time of my writing this, is listed as JRE 6 Update 17. If you already have Java installed, you won't need to download that.

The file you run is Zombies.jar. I suggest you extract the whole thing out of the .zip into a folder of your own choosing. After that, if the JRE is installed, you can double-click on Zombies.jar and play.

If you have any problems getting it to run, or if you have advice, questions, or concerns, please, put them here.
