So yeah, I have several hours here in the computer lab, but all my comic stuff is at home, and I already did my homework.
Naturally, I had to find something to do, and this fit the bill.
So far, I've put up Horror (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/Horror.png) and Innocence (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/Innocence.gif). I seriously considered using "Horror" for "Blood," instead, but Horror it stayed.
I switched to my older method of coloring and shading for the Innocence piece. It's a fun style, but it takes too long over multiple panels to draw the comic that way.
The Horror piece will mess with your head if you stare at it too long. Maybe I warped the perspective a bit more than I should have...
EDIT: Before anybody asks, no, these aren't actual characters. The kid in "Innocence" is one I draw a lot, but he doesn't actually exist in any project of mine, he's just fun to draw.
EDIT (Again): "Drowning (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/Drowning.png)" is up. Not really sure how I feel about that one...
-
Heh! :D
Meh. Glad to see you've joined us, on this challenge. ;D
Well, Horror or Blood, it certainly would've worked for both.
The perspective's fun though. 8D
Your older version? Hm. I like it. :)
Drowning, I might point out a suggestion or two for...
Mostly involving how the profile and front views of his legs are a little backward in size (the front view is thicker than the profile) and how, well, considering that the face is at a bit of an angle... and that you usually have a bit of a snout on that type of critter, and I'm assuming you do, now... I'd think there should be a bit of a suggestion that his face actually does that.
The blue is fun though. I have no clue how you did that. XD (Other than a partially transparent layer. 'Tis about all I know. :P )
Hm... I need to take some time for my 100 Theme Challenge... :P
-
To make the blue effect: make a layer, fill it with a fairly dark blue. Set it's transparency to about 25%. Take the gradient tool, and set the secondary color to be completely invisible, and the primary color to be a light blue. Make randomly crisscrossing blue lines. Apply the Fragment blur.
Done.
Yeah, I'm not overfond of the way the perspective ended up in Drowning. I'm not gonna' change it, though...
-
Heh. ;D
Not expecting you to. =J
Hm... I really need to resume my challenge... :P
Well, it looks neat. :)
Know what you're gonna' do next?
-
Not a clue, and I probably won't until I start scribbling next time I'm in the lab.
EDIT: "Tower (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/Tower.png)" is up. A bit of an experiment, this one...
-
This one seems to be in a different order..though I think they're all the same..huh.
But anywho. Wow. I like Tower. :3 Innocence and Drowning both offer a sense of serenity..despite the guy..well..drowning. Maybe it's the colors? Horror is good, too. Can't really tell what's going on, there...but his expression says it all.
-
I don't really know what's going on in Horror--it's all about the expression.
Drowning was supposed to be more serene, so the color scheme sorta' reflects that.
Tower was an experiment in not using any lines--just colors and shadows.
Hmm...I don't think they're in a different order--I copied it off of Blood's post, and removed his commentary and links...
-
"Night (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/Night.png)" is up...though I worry that the contrast will be too low for some monitors.
-
Heh!
Tower is neat. :D
Oo... so is Night. I really like Night. :D
The white that IE puts it on makes it hard to see, a bit, but it's really neat. Maybe ones like that could be fixed by adding a larger background of black to set it on, so that it covered more of the white, or something, and made the colors and lines more defineable...?
Anyway, gotta' go, but I'm glad I got to go through the Art thread. ^_^
-
Hmm...I don't really want to add dead space around it, since that would also make the file larger. I do agree that the white that most browsers use as the default is far too bright.
-
o: I forgot to comment on this.
Hm...it is a bit dark, but I can make everything out, fine. The white part does make it a tad painfull, but when I minimize the screen, it seems okay. I really do love the colors in this one....though most of that is probably because I have a fondness for dark colors, anyway.
The only thing I can really suggest..is maybe a little more highlighting? 'Cause..even if it's cloudy, I'm sure there'd be, at least, a little moonlight....unless he's not out in the open. *shrug*
-
Hmm...
That's true...
Honestly, though, I've no clue where he is.
EDIT: Blood (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/Blood.png) is up. (Er...the image, not the person.)
-
Huh..? wha..?
I'm m'wake! Mmf.
Five more minutes....
...yah, ... just five more...
*Skxkkkzss*
-
Heh!
Sure you are. I believe you.
Anyway, "No Time (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/NoTime.png)" is up now. Twice (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/NoTimeAlt.png), in fact, since I turned off one layer, whilst working on the one under it, and I liked it. So, yeah...you get 2 for that one, though they're pretty much the same.
EDIT: Stripes (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/Stripes.png) is up!
The character on the left in this one is based on some (very) early sketches of Rithiel. That's rather reflected in her coloring, but hey.
The other character is just one of the characters who I'm always sketching on my homework, much to the annoyance of my poor, poor Math teacher.
Anyway, this one was certainly fun to draw.
-
Mirror (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/Mirror.png) is up!
I chose which one to do using the "True random" number generator over at Random.org.
Okay, yeah...but it was fun to draw, anyway.
EDIT: I went through, and modified my posts so that the first time I reference one of the themes, there's a link. I figure this'll make it easier to keep track of what image is being talked about.
-
Oo..that's a neat-looking dude. :3
Hm....that's a good idea. I might start doing the same.
-
Sweet.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
I should do that, too... XD
I was just trying to keep the list organized... :P
Maybe I'll do both. Heh.
Neat. :D
I like it. ^_^
I might add a comment as to the structure of the right leg...
But really, it turned out net. And I like how you made the reflection and the like. ;D
-
Hmmm....
His right leg does look a bit weird, but I suspect that's because I sketched it one way, but decided I didn't like it, so I just ignored all my guidelines for it when I did the actual inking.
:P
I might've done more of these, today, but I chose instead to update Pending Else.
EDIT: Hmm....
I'm curious: Did No Time (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/NoTime.png), it's other form (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/NoTimeAlt.png), and Stripes (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/Stripes.png) get overlooked, or did ya'll just have nothing to say on them?
-
Both "No Time"s were also sweet, I was just to tired to say anything when I saw them.
The alt needs a little bit more purple on the haft, to look finished.
-
Hmmm...
Maybe, but I like it the way it is, unfinished or not. Though, it does seem strange that the scythe looks even less material than he does...
-
Perhaps we, as the viewer, are looking from the perspective of someone on the spiritual plane.
The scythe, being able to touch the material plane, is somehow out of phase with the rest of the afterlife.
-
I replied, while taking a break from school. My mind was kind of stessing, still..so I just outright forgot about the other ones. ^^;
Both versions of No Time are very good..and I get a seriously creepy vibe from them. Probably the second, more-so.
Stripes is good. It's cute, it's funny, and the expressions are priceless.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Heh...
I thought I'd replied to them... hm...
Anyway.
Heh.
I like 'em. ^-^
Heh.
I just tend to have little time to do much... :P
Blood is neat... heh.
Kinda disturbed, but I suspect that was the objective. :P :)
Hm...
Wonder... heh.
The eyes kinda make me think of yours, after the car wreck...
-
@ Faith: Well, I had to draw inspiration from somewhere, now didn't I?
@ Fox: Creepy vibe, eh? Mission successful.
Stripes is all about the expressions. I've been focusing on expressions recently. Not sure why, though...
@Blood: Er...sure. We'll go with that. Yup.
-
Rejection (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/Rejection.png) is up!
The poem in the background is the lyrics to the song Shut Up, by Cascada. I let the random number generator decide which theme to go with, again, and that song came on at the same time as I did, so...this was the result.
Edit: Solitude (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/Solitude.png) is up! The random number generator said it, not me.
Edit: ...and now Sacrifice (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/Sacrifice.png) is up! I chose this one myself, though. No random numbers involved.
-
Is solitude supposed to be shaped like that?
It's really wide, and his legs are cut off.
Evil Guy needs to get his evil grin on to sacrifice... an apple?
-
Yeah. I was trying out a wider format for that one. I'm not really sure I like it...
I'd be grinning, too, if I had a jagged-y knife...
-
It is a sweet knife.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
I like the whole "sacrificing the apple" bit. XD
And the knife as well as his attire are fun. ^-^
Solitude looks neat, I think. Heh. The background was interesting, there, too.
Hm... heh... well... XD
Rejection makes me feel kinda bad for the guy. :P
The background, there, is neat, too though. Heh. ;D
-
Hmm...
Seeing Red (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/SeeingRed.png) is up. Because I have rather a lot of filters, the original colors are sorta' hard to see, so here (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/SeeingRed_Unfiltered.png) is the same image without filters.
I'm...really not sure about this one. Sure, it looks okay, but I don't think it's what I was originally intending...
EDIT: Stars (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/Stars.png) is up!
I like this one.
EDIT: Words (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/Words.png) is up, now. Bit smaller than most of 'em, but...
Well, make your own opinions.
-
Oh, wow. I really like Stars. That would make a good wallpaper. :3
Seeing Red is pretty cool. I get the feeling that we're seeing through the eyes of a fairly evil being, here.
-
The problem with Stars is that that's all the bigger it ever was. If I decide to make it into a background, I'll have to remake it.
I might just do that, since I love the way it came out. Besides, it'd be a lot faster, a second time around, since I can just copy the sketch layers, stretch them out, and ink over them again.
Hmmm....
Well, I've too much homework at the moment, but I might have to do that, sometime soon...
Seeing Red...yeah. Sounds like I pulled off my objective on that one...
EDIT: Forget that. I can't do my homework at the school (go figure) but I had the files I needed to make a Stars Wallpaper (http://beastling.xepher.net/canon/art/images/wp/Stars_WP.png). I'll make more sizes if anybody asks me to.
-
Heh. :D
Neat. I like it. ^-^
I'll be using that one. ;D
-
Been awhile since I did any of these.
All That I Have (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/AllThatIHave.png) is up.
Happiness (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/Happiness.png) is also up.
Enjoy.
-
#1: Neat. Very neat.
I like it, very much. The droop of blood in the water was a great addition.
#2: *Laugh!!!* :D
He certainly looks happy. XD
I like the way you made his scales like that. I might have to use it later. ;D
-
...
I'll just assume you meant "drop" and move on.
Heh. The scales were easy, at least. Add a bit of non-color-saturated noise, and then a 2 pixel pixelization to make the scales a bit bigger...
-
Hehehehe...
Well...
Heh...
I'd make some sort of detailed explanation, but it's almost 4 am and I'm liable to make many more errors that way. XD
Also, I need to get to sleep so I can wake up early tomorrow and take a shower before I got to church... ... ... :P
Heh. :D
I'll most definitely have to try it.
-
I really like the first one. I can't really think of the proper words, right now..but it's very cool.
The second is nice, too. That dragon is definitely happy. :3
-
Happiness is a pile of gold.
-
a pile of gold is hapiness for normal people and for crazy people. if you don't believe me give me some gold and see if you ever get it back.
-
Wow. It's been awhile.
Out Cold (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/OutCold.png) is up. I had a lot of fun with this one. The positioning of both characters, the expressions, and the coloring for the beowolf were fun, and finding a (relatively) fast way to make a grassy background was fascinating.
The background was made thusly: Fill the background (an entire layer) with green. Add noise to get the variety of shades I needed. Use motion blur to stretch it upwards into blades. Zoom in to make them bigger. All of that will get you something that looks more like sharp, pointy blades of grass. I then used the Frosted Glass effect to put it in patches, though that probably wasn't necessary.
Then I just used the color picker, chose the lightest and darkest shades of green I could find in the background, and drew (on top of all the layers) little 1 pixel lines that overlapped the characters.
Fun!
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Heh.
I said it already, but I think that kid's pretty cute. XD
Also, that is a fun-colored beowolf. ;D
-
If all my settings weren't barren, war-torn wastelands, I'd steal that grass trick.
-
Fun colored, huh?
I'd been wondering what a red-dragon beowolf would look like, so I drew one.
Now, if he'd been particolored, then I'd call him a fun colored beowolf...
-
Haha...that kid is awesome. Poking things is fun. x3
-
Indeed it is.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Wow.
We make such a simple bunch... XD
-
Hmm...
Dying (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/Dying.png) is up! If you're not sure what's going on, go read this (http://beastling.xepher.net/PE/KherosBackstory.php).
Eyes (http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/themes/Eyes.png) is up. Not sure on this one...it works, I guess...but it didn't work like I'd hoped.
-
Neat. :D
Eyes wasn't bad...
Heh.
Heh. I like how you made Dying match with Kheros's story. :)
-
Oh, wow. The way his foot is twisted, makes mine hurt..just looking at it. o.o
Both are really good, though. I like the general creepy factor Eyes give, too.
-
To make Eyes look even creepier, set it as the desktop background, centered, and surround it with black.
The people at school react strangely when you do this to all the computers in the lab while no one else is there.
-
Heh..that almost makes me wish I attended public school. (almost) Alas, I just have to resort to pulling pranks on my new step-mom..'cause she's silly, and thought our Cadillac's cassette player was a universal cell phone charger.
-
...
Wait, seriously?
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
That's great. XD (Both.)
Public school is a great place for pranks. 8D
(But... I regret some of ones I made... :P )
Honestly, most of the pranks I was involved in were due to my friend's plots. ::)
But some were fun to join in on. Like coming in to class before school starts and switching all the desks... (permanent seating and desks with compartments for all of our school things inside.)
-
And now Light (http://beastling.xepher.net/canon/art/lightTheme.php) is up!
Reverse shading on this one--fully filled black layers, with the highlights erased out. I rather like the way it came out.
I changed the links in my first post. They all now point to the Canon Fodder page for that image, instead of just the image itself.
-
That...is pretty darn cool. I love the shading. <3
-
The shading was a ton of fun to do, too.
If you haven't already, you might consider taking a look at the full-size picture. It's a lot easier to see the shading that way. (And you can see that the text at the bottom is actually "cut out" of the shadows...)
-
Trouble Lurking (http://beastling.xepher.net/canon/art/TroubleLurkingTheme.php) is up!
Not originally drawn as a theme...but I felt it fitting.
I sorta' doubt the knight's gonna' make it...
-
Oo! Dragon! Can't go wrong, with dragons. :U
Hm..seems like its right claws should be behind the flame, rather than in front...but other than that, pretty dang groovy. :3
-
Heh. ;D
I've missed out on a lot... XP
(My Internet was sabotaged last week... :P )
I like Light. That one's really neat. :)
Heh.
Trouble Lurking is good, also. Thought I might have to agree with Fox, about the claws. I can see what you were going for, but the claws aren't covered enough, I think.
-
Broken Pieces (http://beastling.xepher.net/canon/art/BrokenPiecesTheme.php) is up!
I...think this one took longer than it should have.
-
Busted!
-
*Snrk*
Neat. ;)
I feel sorry for the critter, thought. :( :P
-
Verreh nice. I can certainly see why it took a while. x_x So many little details. It was worth it, though. ;3
-
Relaxation (http://beastling.xepher.net/canon/art/RelaxationTheme.php) is up!
I sketched and inked this one in an hour between classes at school. It took 2 hours to color it, draw in the background, and shade it.
It was fun, though.
-
I like it. Heh.
It's neat.
Hm...
Are you keeping track of the themes you already did, or did you just want to do a second one of Relaxation?
-
I had not yet done relaxation.
What do you mean?
-
Oh, oops.
I wasn't thinking. XD
Sorry.
-
In the Storm (http://beastling.xepher.net/canon/art/images/InTheStorm.png) is up. Phew.
This one took forever, probably because I made it freaking HUGE. 2880 x 1800 pixels is no joke.
I also have the half-size (1440 x 900) one here (http://beastling.xepher.net/canon/art/images/InTheStorm_1440x900.png), in which more details are visible.
If you're not opposed to ridiculous file sizes (10 MB!) you can look at the Full Size (http://beastling.xepher.net/canon/art/images/InTheStorm_FULL.png) one.
The full size one takes enough memory before being collapsed that I had to restart my computer to free up enough memory to open it back up. Oops.
So...opinions?
EDIT: It felt really weird to write 2010...
-
Heh. XD
Neat. :)
I like the lighting in the background... how it came out. ;)
And the rain is pretty cool, too. I didn't know that noise could do that... ;D
Well, maybe that and the fact that you didn't use an outline.
XD
I've tried a few thngs on Paint.NET without an outline and it takes forever... XP
-
You can do an awful lot of things with noise, if you do it right.
The lightning and affiliated lighting were fun, and easy enough to make. I'm pretty happy with the way it came out.
I think this was the first time I've drawn a character using the paintlike method I used, here...it was actually pretty fun.
-
Heh. :D
I might have to try it someday. ;D
Well, ya' know, try and finish. :P
I've been trying a couple of methods for using Paint.NET with, at the very least, more subtle outlines... XD
I'm loading the full size, right now.
(Using school Internet is faster...)
The lightening, sky and rain look really neat in these ones. Heh.
I can see what you meant when you were talking about how the rain might look better in the full size. Heh.
Hm...
Makes me think of a topic...
