Actually, all of "discuss the comic" is for discussing the comic.

And I'm glad you like the look.  It took all of three seconds to draw.    :P

What's with the color changing buildings? How did that guy change the buildings colors, and will I find out later on in the comic anyway?   :)

I will laugh, not because it will be funny, but because the trio's REACTIONS will be funny.
[Also, what kind of pen would you people recommend?I have something I really don't wanna murder by using a bad pen.]
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on December 17, 2006, 04:48:00 PM
@Spookty: I would recommend a black gel pen that has a good deal of control over the line weight.  That's what I've been using.  Failing that, an "ultra fine" sharpie tends to work pretty well, as long as you don't have too many lines.

@Faith:  The buildings aren't changing colors, the trio is moving, and he's in front of them.

Blah.As soon as I FIND such a pen I'll ink it and maybe post it.

The one's I've been using are from Wal-Mart...

In other news:  the next comic is up!

I just saw.Does Beastling recognize that guy?
"It was me."
"WHAT?"
Heh.I sense plot development.

I think I'll try to update again this week.  I feel like I left off at a sort of weird point in time.

Oh, I see.   ;D

What do you see?
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on December 19, 2006, 10:01:00 PM
How the buildings aren't really changing colors or some other absurd thing.   :)  I don't really know why I thought that before!
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: spookty on December 20, 2006, 07:19:00 AM
Eh,I sorta thought they changed color too,for a minute there.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on December 20, 2006, 11:00:00 AM
No worries.  I'm not the best at explaining things like that, apparently.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on December 20, 2006, 11:49:00 AM
Eh, everyone makes mistakes. Right?

And by that I'm talking about my mistake. I'm sure a more observant person would have realized that they were walking, not standing by color changing buildings!   :D  Especially since Thief Said, "Hey guys... were're we going?"

Spookty, you may have just looked at it real quick, which would explain your confusion. I have no excuse!   ;D
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: spookty on December 20, 2006, 01:34:00 PM
Of course, that was BEFORE you explained it.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on December 20, 2006, 03:18:00 PM
Yup! You know what, every one says I'm always quick to criticize myself, and they don't like it. Then you keep on saying stuff like that. So I now know one reason why people might not like it when I criticize myself all the time.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: kitty cat on December 20, 2006, 03:56:00 PM
I thought the builings changed color, too.   :)
Title: Re: discuss the comic

I find it pretty strange that we're all talking about color changing biuldings. Does anyone else agree?
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Spoiled puppy on December 20, 2006, 05:36:00 PM
I think that its definately strange. I didnt think the buildings were changing, I could tell they were walking
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on December 20, 2006, 06:14:00 PM
Of course it's strange.  In this case, it's also perfectly normal.

@Spoiled:  At least someone could tell...

Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on December 22, 2006, 08:44:00 PM
Not really, I should have noticed, but I didn't. Even though Thief said, "Hey guys, where're we going?" Shouldn't that have been kinda' obvious?
Title: Re: discuss the comic

No.  I could have done better.

Maybe...
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on December 22, 2006, 09:58:00 PM
Well, lets just forget it. Kay? 'Cuz I don't think we can agree on who's right or who's wrong, what's done is done, and that's good enough.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: spookty on December 22, 2006, 10:42:00 PM
*one last arguement-thingy 'cuz I just got here*
Well,it couldn't have been more clear unless there was a sidenote that said the buildings weren't actually turning green, and THAT would be sorta dumb.*slinks away*

*Laugh*   :D

When did you start the comic?

When you say it isn't even that funny, you know it just makes it funnier, right?

Wait, take that last one back, I can just check the date under the first comic.

Different question, where is it that Dante and Demon are? I didn't see it when Beastling was in The middle of Nowhere. Did he just not go there?
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on January 12, 2007, 10:05:00 AM
Did you know you just triple posted?  Ah well, it's better if you don't do that, though.  :/

You can't really look at the date under the first comic...it's inaccurate.  I didn't originally have the date shown (Back when I was with my first host, Gutterfly) so the date shown is inaccurate.

The date in the comic image itself should be right, though.  Or at least close.

And what do you know, I did triple post!
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: spookty on January 16, 2007, 05:17:00 AM
Hey, I just thought of something. Maybe THAT'S why Beastling seemed to be sort of freaking out. I mean, there's him, Ramjik, Theif and Ramjik's dad, so who else could it be? I think the answer will bring up more questions, though.

I'll be trying to update later...after I finish the homework assignment I'm supposed to already have done.

Yes I should do that, too...

And the new update is very interesting. I like how you've started putting color behind the pictures in the comic.   ;D  Could have commented on that earlier, it's been that way the last few updates... but I'm saying it now.   :)

That would depend more on you than on him.  I'm just saying he seems dislikable, which is sort of what I was going for for his first appearances.  Apparently, I succeeded.

Apparently...

Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on January 30, 2007, 08:51:00 PM
Or are the crazy grouches just all villains?

Anyway, I'm finding it almost as interesting discussing these characters on the forum as I am drawing the comic.

Almost...

Well, he turned out well!   :D  I like his expression in the fifth image!

You're already on the 81st comic, too! And it seems not to long ago that Beastling and Thief landed in the museum...

Are you going to do anything different when you post the 100th, like put a picture in Extras, or something? Just wondering.

About teh newest page: We find out what just happend soon, righ? Also, Ramjik's dad seems unusually nice for an evil dude.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on February 24, 2007, 06:55:00 PM
Not all evil dudes are completely evil, and some have reasons to seem nice at given moments, or, ulterior motives. but then, I'm not the one to say whether or not he's completely evil or anything, which is why I ask - exactly how evil is "Evil-Dude?"
I can't ask why he's seeming nice because, I think, the answerer to that would give away to much information...

And, I just feel like saying, the comic has come a long way from it's first update; which, by the way, actually still makes me laugh... hehehe... "Full-Grown Beowolves are considered some of the wisest and strongest creatures around. Their Youth however... aren't."
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: spookty on February 25, 2007, 07:58:00 PM
Eh, just sayin' that because ya' don't see much of it.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on February 26, 2007, 06:36:00 PM
Well...originally, there was a line in the most recent update where Ramjik's dad says "Know for now that I am not evil." right before he says  "Go," but I took it out because it made the comic seem too wordy.

You'll learn more about him later, though.  He's fairly important.
Title: Re: discuss the comic

Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on March 04, 2007, 05:32:00 PM
True...especially considering that the characters came before the story.  Well, most of 'em, anyway.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on March 08, 2007, 06:05:00 PM
I think that the characters in this comic are neat.   ;)
They're interesting and have great reactions and personalities.   :)

I also think making up characters is a fun part of making up stories.   ;D
You get to give them their own details and stuff, make them different and likable or dis-likable, whatever you want.

I like the funny part.   ;D

So, he's not evil - yet he sends people to chase his son's friends, brandishing sticks?
Is that stick more of a staff, or a magical staff, or a poky, harmful object?

And what is "it?"
The "it" that almost collapsed when he knocked himself out on the water pipes?
And where are these water pipes?

So --- the blue guy doesn't say a lot?

Is that because he's a ghost?

Am I going to find out later?

Cool comic.  I'm liking it so far.  Love the concept of a wolf/dragon hybrid race.  And Beastling just looks plain cool.

"What did your father give you, Beastling?"

"A chain and a portent of doom.  Goodnight, Mom."

Ha ha!

The story seems to drag a bit after the first few pages, but things start to pick up when you start showing off some interesting characters.  Also like the good ol' fashioned hand coloring.

Pretty good job.  I'll be checking back for more updates!

Nice to see a face from the Xepher.net forum!  I know it dragged a bit, which I regret.  I'm not going to go back and change it, though, if only so I can see how much better I've gotten.

Welcome, hello, and sorry I took so long.

As names go, it's best to refer to people by their nickname, unless they specify otherwise.  It's a privacy concern, so don't worry too much.  Generally, if you slip, I (or Legion) will fix it for you.

Also, it's best not to double post, though I'll leave it for now.

Again, Welcome!

So - he was drowning, sank to the bottom, and then got there and... stopped drowning?
Now I really want to figure out how that happened.   :)

Awesome job on the previous two comics, Dragyn.  Your artwork is really improving.   :)

Post by: Faith on March 20, 2007, 06:24:00 PM
Yeah - if you compare his most recent update to the first, you can really see the difference.   :)
I'm looking forward to seeing how his artwork improves in the future.
People tend to like his art - I know I do.   ;)

I have some questions.   :D

How did Thief get that mark across his eye?
Does he not know how to swim, or did the crystal weigh him down?
So - there's air where Thief is at? Then, the fish is floating?
Are there a lot of skeleton fish in that place?
Why did he have his knife out in the scene where he's putting down the crystal?

Are you used to all my questions by now?   :)

I guess Thief doesn't like shoes, either.   ;D

Wah, I need to actually check for updates. ^^;
Okay. Ramjik's dad is a very enigmatic person, and Theif seems to be in quite a situation. Oh, and yes, the art HAS improved. Story's really starting to get interesting now.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on March 21, 2007, 02:25:00 PM
Heh.   :D

Ramjik's dad is a very interesting character - but then, they're all interesting characters...    :)

I really like how the characters, backgrounds and stuff have been getting drawn of late - and, also, I think the whole underwater scene was drawn just fine.   :)
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on March 22, 2007, 03:00:00 PM
Meh...I knew I'd have trouble with this sequence.  No, there's no air, I'm just not good at drawing underwater.  He didn't have his dagger out, he's just reaching for it.  He keeps it in his belt, see?

I don't think I'll ever understand why people like my art, but thanks anyway, everybody.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: spookty on March 22, 2007, 05:10:00 PM
I wasn't looking at it very closely. Also, don't beat yerself up over your art. 's bad for self esteem and all that crud.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on March 22, 2007, 07:17:00 PM
Yeah - besides, your art is good. Would I ask for help to try to learn how to draw the things you draw if I didn't think of your art as good?

And, I wouldn't have asked that, it's just what he said that confused me. Why did he say, "Whoa. Air!?"
Did he say that because he needed air?

I should have focused more, is all. I'm not exactly what they call "bright."   :P

Why was he reaching for it? Did he want to make sure it was still there after the fall and all that? Or does he just do that sometimes, almost unaware that he even does it? Kinda like someone chewing their nails, or sticking out their tongue while they draw?

Still, what about that mark? Am I not allowed to know? Is it just there?
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on March 23, 2007, 04:36:00 AM
Oh...ok, I gotcha' now.

He needed air, is all.  He reached for his dagger as an absent gesture.  He didn't even know he was doing it.

He got the mark way back when he stole the gem itself.  He's had it ever since.  (Go back and look if you don't believe me)

And I'll just take you guys' word for it that it's good...

So - they're at the bottom of the lake, and there's a bunch of skeleton fish swimming around --- but, that isn't the only kind of fish there is?

And, the new guy lives underwater - can he go above the surface?

And can Thief go above the surface, now that he's been infected? Will the infection go away? Or will he have it for the rest of his life, or until he does something about it?

How do you change the smilies?
Do you make them on Paint. Net?

It is Ramjik!!!   :D
I saw the angry smiley before I saw the announcement.   ;D

What is a "Symbiote?"

I think I'd have the same reaction to that as Theif... "Huh?"
"Huh?"
"Huh?"
"Huh?"

It just sounds like something I'd do.   :)

Can you really spell "smileys" two ways?
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on April 07, 2007, 04:41:00 PM
Hey, questions I can answer without giving things away!

A symbiote is an organism that lives by leeching off of another organism, but doesn't harm the other organism.  (Also called a symbiont)

"Smiley" isn't an official word, so it can be spelled however.  I tend to use Smiley for the singular and smilies for the plural.  That's just me, though.

And yes, it is Ramjik.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on April 08, 2007, 04:19:00 PM
Heh, I bet you enjoyed those questions better than the ones you can't answerer...   :D

How does someone get a symbotie?
Can they, like they do in the comic, actually help people?

Did Thief get it through his cut?
Speaking of questions you probably wont answerer...

Oh, that's good, I don't have to worry about misspelling it.   ;D
Unless I hit the wrong key by accident... which happens a lot...   :)

Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on April 12, 2007, 07:17:00 PM
You misspelled it, already.

Thief got it-  wait...I'm not answering that.  That'll be answered in a bit.

But yeah, a symbiont can help.  If it doesn't help, it's generally called a parasite.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on April 13, 2007, 09:43:00 AM
Oops, yes I did...   :P

How can they help?
What things can they do?
There isn't a known one that can help someone breath underwater, is there? If there was, we either wouldn't know about it because the government or scientists would still be using and experimenting it, or there'd be somebody selling it for millions... right?
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on April 13, 2007, 09:27:00 PM
Right.

Most symbiotic relationships involve fungi and trees, (or fungi and small creatures)

As of yet, no one is aware of any that can let you breathe underwater.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: spookty on April 14, 2007, 08:25:00 PM
Well I guess it's better than one of those explainations that takes up a whole strip. Those things are annoying sometimes. Also, I'm guessing that's... oh, I forgot what it's called, but it's when the symbiote helps the host and the host helps the symbiote in some way, is what I'm thinking here.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on April 15, 2007, 04:52:00 AM
That would be what's called a Symbiotic Relationship, if I'm getting what you're saying.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on April 16, 2007, 02:12:00 PM
Neat - I wonder what they can do...   :D
(Searching it on the Internet now.)   ;D

I like the close up on the bonefish.   :)

So --- is there a big thing about this, now? I have so many questions that can't be answered without spoiling it all: will Thief owe something to the bonefish now, or was it just kindness on the bonefish's part; will Thief end out taking quests, like Beastling did; did he just pass something big - like, now it's been proven he can do something others, can't, or something? That last one would explain why the other guy didn't save him; or was the other guy not able to help - handicapped, in a way?
Well, I'm just gonna have to wait... with my luck, all my guesses above are wrong.   :P  But there's more - I have so many guesses, and I'll just have to wait to find out!   :)

Well - the good news is that you've got someone's attention on the comic and what's going on. If I were reading this in a book, this would be one of those parts I'd stay up late just to find out what's next.   ;)

Did Thief leave his jacket when he set it down?

Do you look at and read the links on your site and choose them yourself, or does your host choose them for you or something like that?
Just wondered, with my interest in the whole website thing, myself.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on April 16, 2007, 03:22:00 PM
The sites I link in the Links page are sites I myself like, for varying reasons.  The ones that show up in the Xepher.net newsbox are the only ones Xepher does anything with, and those are just the ones he hosts.

Thief left his jacket when he was drowning, yes.

I like the designs you used for the water in the background, even if you don't know what it looks like under water.   :)

If you wanted to find out, though - one easy way would be yo search up pictures of underwater scenes in google.   :-/  /   :)

Did you already consider doing that?
I think it looks fine the way it is - really, the designs are neat.   :D    ;)
Title: Re: discuss the comic

Title: Re: discuss the comic

Well... people breathing underwater, dragon-wolf creatures, and talking buildings with eyes are believed to be inaccurate, too... but they're neat.   ;)
Either way - I think it's good; but it's not my work. And, I'm sure whatever you do, I'll like it - your artwork is better than mine.   ;D

When did you start coming up with the titles for each update?
Title: Re: discuss the comic

When they started showing up...whenever that was.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on April 27, 2007, 02:35:00 PM
Um... when you started coloring them? No... a little after that, I think.   ;D

How strong, exactly are Beowolves?
In the beginning you said they were "Beings of immense power and strength," and "Full grown Beowolves are considered some of the wisest and strongest creatures around."
But how strong are they?
What are their limitations, and what creatures "are strong or brave enough to fight them?"

I'd ask "Are there any creatures that can overtake them that we'll see in the comic?"   :P
But I think I know the answerer I'd get for that.   ::)
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on April 27, 2007, 10:57:00 PM
The answerer?  I'm pretty sure I'm the answerer here, and I don't thing you're getting me for that...

Anyway, how strong they are depends on what they do.  If they work all day (or close enough, anyway) then a beowulf could likely destroy an entire city.  If they sit around and do nothing, there's a reasonable chance they could still manage to kill an ant, provided it didn't move too fast.

Of course, I'm not saying what you'll see in the comic.

But you knew that, already.

Okay.   :)

Am I not allowed to know how Dietrich knew Thief's name?

Also --- I didn't ask earlier, but what was Chad Screaming about?
Waking up, chained in some strange place?
Was it something he saw?
What was glowing red - and did it have anything to do with Chad's screaming?
Title: Re: discuss the comic

The hallway has red lighting.

He saw Ganador.  That's not something I'd want to see, when waking up.

And Dietrich's knowledge sources are classified information.

Title: Re: discuss the comic

*Laugh!!!*   :D

I misspelled laugh, just then, before...

Either way...
About how long does it take you to draw out an update, if you just sit down and draw it?

Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on May 01, 2007, 07:09:00 PM
Well, that depends a lot on several variables.  If I draw anything complex, it takes a lot longer than just drawing a few things I draw a lot of (like Beastling, or Ramjik--they're both easy)

Thief himself almost always takes longer, as he is a much more "realistic" character, so I have more trouble posing him and suchlike.

I'm actually trying something different with the next one, so (as always) it'll be up later than planned.  It seems to be taking a bit longer than my usual, so I'll see if the end justifies the time taken...

Oh, yeah.  Comic later than planned.  Sorry.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on May 02, 2007, 05:56:00 PM
Humans, in general, are more difficult to draw than most other things... to most people I know, anyway.

Oh well, I'm sure it will turn out well.   :D

Where did you get the idea for Dietrich?

*Laugh!!!*   :D

Now I know what you were doing with it.   :D

The characters turned out really well - but the background, in my opinion, lost something. I think it looked better when you had more detail and shading in it. It lost a bit of reality.
But the characters did turn out very well. And the water looked good, too.   :)
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on May 06, 2007, 03:56:00 PM
Dietrich emerged at random from the depths of my mind.  I have no idea how he got there.

Yeah...I'm not really happy with the background, either.  I think the background's why I don't consider it having been "worth it."  I'll probably try something else for the next update.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on May 06, 2007, 07:38:00 PM

I can see the smiling, alien bee, but where'd the killing come from?

Also, I didn't use glow at all.  I used one layer on top of the other, with partial transparency.  That's all.

There were, in total, about 25 layers involved, and some that you don't see ('cuz I decided not to use them)  To use it, all you'd have to do is right click on it, and select "Set as Desktop Background" (or whatever yours says)

Who's in the what now?
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on May 17, 2007, 07:36:00 PM
*Laugh!!!*   :D    :D    :D

Inside the train, there's a glowing, red eye, looking out, isn't there?

Well, in my opinion, your "really lame excuse" is a good one.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on May 31, 2007, 11:22:00 AM
Well, on the plus side, I actually have the next one to an "under construction" stage--just gotta' ink and color it, now.

Yeah, there's an eye, but do you really think I'm saying who's it is?
Title: Re: discuss the comic

*Laugh!!!*   :D
No, not really...   ;D

That's good! I look forward to seeing it!   ;)

Do the trains float, or something?
Can they run off of the tracks?

Again, I'll explain the train later.

Update forthcoming!  See the Blog-Like thing for details...

Heh - I saw that. : )

I hope I can get on the Internet at my grandparent's....

Do you think that your getting a job will interfere with your updates?
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on June 11, 2007, 04:00:00 PM
It might, though hopefully not as much as computer trouble did...

Also--Update is up!  Yay!
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on June 11, 2007, 08:59:00 PM
Yeah, it's much better than the last one.   ;D

Now I know what colors K'os and Disodrer are...   :)

What did Thief use to tie the crystal to his ankle? And does the crystal have a hole or something to put string through so that it can be tied to stuff?

On teh update, whoah, I'm mildly surprised I recognize those two.

Surprised?  It's only been...oh.  It's been a year, now, hasn't it...weird.

Don't be too sure you know, Faith...
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on June 20, 2007, 11:06:00 AM
*Laugh!!!*   :D

Hmm....   :)

I'm now thinking about what things would cause the colors of a dragon to change...

I'm also thinking Dragyn is enjoying trying to confuse me.... and succeeding, too.   :P
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on June 21, 2007, 01:24:00 PM
Oh yes, enjoying it very much.

Anyway, new update.  pencil drawn lines, computer coloring...not sure if I like it, but it's up.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on June 21, 2007, 06:47:00 PM
*Laugh!!!*   :D
Well, good for you!!!   :P

Oh, so now I know what you were talking about.   ;D

It may not have turned out as you would have liked; but it was a good idea, and I bet, had you put more time into the background, it would look much better.   ;)  But you didn't exactly have the time.   :-/
Also, I think the background would help assist in making Beastling and K'os stop seeming to appear to be changing sizes...

If I may offer a bit of advice: I bet it'd turn out a lot cleaner looking if you inked it with a good pen.   :)

Everything else is neat.   ;D
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on June 22, 2007, 08:13:00 AM
I'm markedly lacking in good pens right now, actually.  I keep planning to buy some, then forget.

Ah well, I'll still be experimenting.

And just in case you've forgotten--K'os does change size.  Always has.  Beastling, on the other hand, just looks bigger 'cuz K'os is smaller.

Hmm...we'll see.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on June 22, 2007, 08:56:00 PM
Oh... well don't I feel stupid now...   :P
I guess I'd forgotten; now, looking back, I think I recall hearing something like that...

You could use one of mine; in fact, you can have the one you use.
(Trying to be helpful.)

Though it still turned out rather well.   :)
I think you made it look better than I could have.   ;)

Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on June 23, 2007, 08:29:00 AM
Next one has been (partially) sketched.  Shouldn't be too long before I can update again.

Anyway, since all the old notes were never archived, I should probably make a note of that again, somewhere.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on June 23, 2007, 10:40:00 AM
Grr... yesterday I was cut off from the Internet before I could finish replying to everything....

Oops.... I didn't mean to say "sturned."    ::)

I think you said something about it to me, before. I don't think I read it there. Instead, I think I started reading this comic after K'os's first appearance. So for readers that haven't the comic since then, like me, that would be a nice thing to do.

How long have K'os and Disodrer been hiding around in a cave? Do they ever come out? Why do they have all that machinery? Are they mad dragons plotting to take over the world?

Kay, maybe that last one was just a twist of imagination meant to entertain myself....

Ah well... I know I wont get an answerer on those, anyways.   :P

Why is one of K'os's wings transparent like that?
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on June 30, 2007, 07:09:00 AM
K'os and Disodrer...they're Chaos dragons.

Ya' know what, I think I'ma go work on the cast page.   That'll explain it all.

(NOTE--see the Blog-Like Thing for info on "WHAT'S TAKING SO LONG!!!")
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on June 30, 2007, 10:06:00 PM
*Laugh!!!*   :D

Hence the names K'os and Disodrer?   ;D

That was an awesome storm! To bad it prevented you from updating, though...

Do we find out how Disodrer broke that horn?

*Later on....*

*Laugh!!!*   :D

I like how the green Disodrer looks.   ;D

Are all Chaos Dragons like that? Changing color and size from time to time....I think it's neat.   :)

Is that just things that most, widely known Chaos Dragons do? Or is that your own idea of what your Chaos Dragons are like? Are there many other kinds of dragons that you've made up? If so, what are they?

What's up with Disodrer's neck?

*A bit later than the last later on...*

Do beowolves breath fire like dragons do?
I thought that must've been how Chad set the tree on fire, but then I haven't seen any beowolves breathing fire...

Also, the picture of Ramjik at the top of the screen (the one that comes with the background) is all distorted, right now...
I wonder if my computer's going whack'o...

Will anybody respond, now?
These questions may be old, but they're driving me nuts!

Heh... I like the News.

Hey look!
Look!
Are you looking?
There's new news!
Uh...
For Beastling:
I'll try to update this week.
(That is, by Saturday, 9/29/07)
Wish me luck.
For PE:
Pending Else update...
...when I can.
...
Sorry...
News restarts now.

Hehehe...
"Hey, look! Look! Are you looking?"

Oh, and good luck.   ;)
And no need for an apology.   :)

Didn't make it by Saturday...I was brutally assaulted by Homework.

Most of your questions will be answered in time, including those about Chaos dragons.  As far as they're concerned, though, this version of chaos dragon is mine.

I'll have a look at the Ramjik Theme (I think that's what you mean) later on.

Hm... well that's fine now... I wonder what was up wiht it...
Thanks anways.   :)

So I don't get to find out what's up with Disodrer's neck?
I've been wondering since that one went up.   :P

Disodrer's neck's been like that from the start.

Well, that's fine.   :)
He looks neat, either way.
(I still want to draw like you!!!!)   :P
I like your style, 'cuz, like you said when we were talking about art styles, it's mixed. It's like realistic animation, and it's really good!

This is an interesting comic.  I just wish it updated more.... it has what a comic needs to start:  a good plotline.  But I've had to put it on the "On Hiatus" section of my webcomics.  Alas.

Get better soon, man.

Dragyn has his reasons.
And, just you wait, it'll get going again, once he can focus more on it.
Right now, he's got other things that require his attention.
Dragyn has his reasons.

Sorry, Dragyn... I just realized I kinda answered that for you, since it was sort of directed to you, I think.

I'm happy because this means that you're feeling better, and that your health is improving.
It sounds like you've come a long ways from that state you were in...

Hm... I must have overlooked that I've gotten another Karma point...
I'm going to do my best to figure who it was that did that...
Title: Re: discuss the comic

(blinks)  Karma.  Eep.  Where did I get karma?  Does one automatically get karma for showing up?  (boggles)

By the way, Faith, I'm going to guess that's a dragon eye.  I know you don't know either, but it kinda reminds me of a dragon eye.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on October 06, 2007, 10:49:00 PM
*Laugh!!!*   :D

Well, I'd thought about it.... but I really haven't thought much of it.

Karma... an old subject   ;D

One gets karma if another person on the forum likes them, or thinks that they've done something good and/or nice. It's kinda like a reward, or present, maybe.

In some cases, it may be used as a "welcoming gift."

That help?
Title: Re: discuss the comic

Indeed.  (ponders the new karma)  Must be the welcome gift kind.

Hm... the conversation in this update and the the fact that almost everyone that is a main character and free to go about and do things if they want to being in this makes me wonder....
Where's Dante?
He was with Demon a little while ago, and... I don't think anyone's going to tell me.... but I'm saying this, anyway.   ::)

Who's worrying?
Just talking, I think.
Sorry if I sound like I am, or something. ': )

I check about as often as I can, now...

Good. 'Cuz it'll drive me nuts until I do find out.   :)

That water looks really neat, and clear...
I'd want to go swimming there if it weren't for the fact that I now know a little of what's down there.

I wonder when Thief tells his friends about what happened down there...
Will that additional ability be used much later on?
I'm not allowed to know that, am I?
Title: Re: discuss the comic

Title: Re: discuss the comic

'Bout how old is Beastling?
And how old are beowolves when they start to fly?
Title: Re: discuss the comic

They fly when/if they're ready. It varies.

Beastling's age is indeterminate.  (Means I'm not really sure)

Depressing as all heck, man.
Title: Re: discuss the comic

Neat.   :)
Where'd you get that idea?

Lots and lots of church bulletins...

Same here...
I thought it was just my computer, but then it did it again, again and again when I came here after I completed my gmail, where I read this.

I've no clue what's happened...
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on November 13, 2007, 10:19:00 AM
Sorry folks!

What happened is as follows:  Xepher updated his server to a newer, and better, one.  In the move, the php scripts either got corrupted, or something (a password or something) else got mixed up.  As ya'll probably know by now, I have no internet at home, so I didn't even know 'till right now.

When I get a chance (prolly tomorrow) I'll copy the files to a CD, take 'em where I can access the in'net, and see if I can sort it out.

Bleh.  Hate it when these things happen, but I'll figure out what's up.

Sorry!

It's not a new one, so we're not freaking out 'cuz we can't see it, or something.   ;D

How often do these things happen?

Yarg and Blargh!

I had to ditch the blog-like thing.  Couldn't fix it, for the life of me.  Blasted thing was riddled with errors and such.  I'll see if I can fix it, working in a different file.  If I can't, I'll just have to replace it.

Blargh, I say again!

On a rather more upbeat note, I have internet at home again!  Yay!

And now, I'm off to see about the PE site...wish me luck.

Okay, so I don't actually know what a jabberwalkie is, I just think it sounds like it talks a lot...
I didn't know how much I'd talked, to earn that extra star and new title, when you told me, Dragyn! I don't know why I didn't guess that, but...
Gee that's a lot of talk!

It's Jabberwocky.  And it is awesome.

----------

The Jabberwocky, by Lewis Carroll

"'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves

Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,

And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!

The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun

The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:

Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,

And stood awhile in thought

And as in uffish thought he stood,

The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,

And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! and through and through

The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head

He went galumphing back.

"And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?

Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"

He chortled in his joy.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves

Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,

And the mome raths outgrabe."

Hm... well, I don't think I gnash or burble, or have claws... not lethal ones, anyway. Just the fingernails people sometimes refer to as claws.
Also, I think my head is still attached to me shoulders.
But, oh well, might as well go with it...

Roar!!! Run away, I'm the terrible jabberwock!!!

When was that made, anyway?

Would seem so...back to Beastling

Good news, and bad news.

Good news:  I know exactly what comes next, and the next strip should be up sometime this weekend/next week.

Bad News:  I've not a clue what comes after that.  I'm gonna' drop Beastling into a hiatus (that'd be a break) while I figure out where I'm going with this.  I'm not stopping, by any means.  PE will update, and I'll likely still work on the site(s).

There are several reasons I'm doing this:
1. I don't want to grind the comic into the ground, which is what I'm gonna' do if I keep this up
2. I want to make the next couple chapters, and whatever comes after that, as good as I can.
3. The more time I work on this, the better it will be.

Ugh...I really don't want to stop.  The reasons I've listed above are the main reasons I've been updating slowly.  Sure, I like to blame it on homework, and demons...er...dentists, but I'm pretty sure those things I've listed above have a lot more to do with it.

So, yeah.  Beastling will update once more, drop you on a cliffhanger (sorry) and drop into a hiatus.

Pending Else, however, has a lot more of a preset plot, and the whole thing is already written out.  Accordingly, that's where I'll be updating.

Again, Sorry.

Title: Re: discuss the comic

Probably at least one chapter of PE, and maybe longer.  Not sure on that, though.

Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on December 11, 2007, 08:46:00 AM
Poor, poor panda...

But we digress.  Beastling, the subject at hand, is progressing, yet.  The next one is inked, just needs shaded and colored.

As for the writing, I've progressed more on that than I expected.  The next couple chapters are outlined, though I'm still gonna' drop it into hiatus.  I still only have a basic idea, and I don't want to leave any plotholes to fall into.  By the looks of it, Beastling's run is gonna' be about 2x as long as that of Pending Else.

Whoo, boy...what have I gotten myself into?
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on December 11, 2007, 01:05:00 PM

About how many more chapters, roughly, do you think are left, in Beastling?
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on December 11, 2007, 04:46:00 PM
I'm not sure, yet.  At least 5...probably more.  I'm guessing 10+, though.  Like I said, it's not done, yet.  Hence, hiatus.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on December 13, 2007, 05:48:00 AM
Hm... how many chapters, do you think, are in PE?
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on December 13, 2007, 08:55:00 AM
1 prelude, 9 chapters, and an epilogue.  They're already outlined.

Though...shouldn't that have been under the PE thread?
Title: Re: discuss the comic

It was just similar to the current conversation, sorry... ':)

Pending Else's Christmas image...may or may not already be up.

I uploaded a wallpaper, sort of a Christmas vibe to it, but not really...look in the extras of PE, you'll see.

I'll probably make a Christmas image for both sites, Beastling and PE, just 'cuz.  We'll see, though.

Oh, so you have!   ;D

I recognize that!
Heh...   :D

A' right, then.   ;)

Is PE the only project of yours with a language of it's own? I wouldn't be surprised, it's probably really difficult to make a language. O.o
What with all the grammar/language rules, and what not...
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on December 20, 2007, 01:11:00 PM
The runes I use appear in many things I've got involving Symmetraxis, not just PE.  It is, however, the only language I've written...so far.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on December 20, 2007, 07:34:00 PM
Heh.   :D

So shall I expect others, eventually, in other projects?
Will you make up more than one for a single project?
Was it fun, making your own language?
Did you purposefully make some, in your language, look similar to what they are, in English?
Which one, do you imagine in this story, was first to originate, or are the similarities without reason?

(I analyze things, too much...   ;D  )

Later:
Heh...   ;D
Repetition; NOW!
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on December 21, 2007, 08:05:00 AM
Hmm...

Repetition; NOW! has been there for about a week, now...

Not sure what you mean by the "first one."  The first what?

As for more languages:  probably.  It was fun, and it's a constant process.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on December 21, 2007, 11:31:00 AM
Hehehe... ':D

Well, I guessed it'd been there for a while... I just had been meaning to look at it, and saw it, then. ':)

I meant the first to originate.
'Cuz, when languages have letters that look similar to those of another language, it usually means that they were, partially, derived from that other language. I wondered which it was to have had those letters, first, in your story... the English language, or your made-up one?
(Here I go, analyzing pointless things, again... chances are, you didn't really consider it, did you? Heh... sorry...)
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on December 22, 2007, 02:13:00 PM
The resemblances are incidental.  Neither one had them first.

Though, as for which language came first...well, that's more complicated than I feel like explaining.  Maybe another time.
Title: Re: discuss the comic

Post by: Dragyn on December 26, 2007, 07:53:00 PM
Hmm...apparently not.  Many things have come up, including apartment hunting, schedule planning, and assorted mayhem.  Hence the delays in about everything I've been working on...
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on December 26, 2007, 11:39:00 PM
Well, that's all right.   :)

Do you know, a bit more, about being able to update while away?

Later:
Yay for the update!   :D

You had to make the suspense-thing, so now I'll be wondering  what's gonna' happen through the whole hiatus. >.<
Meh; it wouldn't be as good, without.   ;D

Does the symbol on the portal have a particular meaning?
Yup, more of my weird questions.   :)

anywho, hey everybody!!!!!!!!!!!   ;D    ;D    ;D  it's me! the dude you've never seen or heard of before and i've come to chat about Beastling!

i've read the entire comic so far and i've got lots of questions for Dragyn but i'll take this one post at a time   ;)

first off: what i'm really stumped at is when Beastling goes all weird on Ramjik and suddenly know him and what he did after/during the crystal ball insident... didn't really get that 'cause as soon as that passed, they inroduced them selves

P.S: i was with you on the buildings Faith. I also though they were changing... i wasn't really paying attention i guess...

Salutations, and Welcome to the forums, first and foremost.

As to the "crystal ball incident," most of that will be explained.  It's more confusing than was intended, but it was meant to be at least a bit.

As for the buildings:  I just can't draw them that well, so it's more my fault than any of ya'lls.

actually, it doesn't look like the buildings are changing. there is what looks like a growing green light and i could tell the were walking... i just kinda took Ramjik seriously... i do that sometimes ^.=.^;

but, to avoid starting another two page thing about the buildings, i'll just say you are forgiven and we'll leave it at that

in other news

how's this hiatus going? you getting ready to start up again, or are things still hectick over there? where ever there is...

Hiya'.

Yup... a burning Ramjik baby... XD

(Long story short, I was trying to draw Ramjik, and my Mom saw it, and though it was a burning baby. I've had really bad experiences trying to draw Ramjik... and they somehow manage to make people laugh...) ^_^   :P

A'right, let's move on, then.

The hiatus will continue, I'm afraid.  I've solved most of the issues that arose to bring it about, but between schoolwork, and lack of a scanner, I'm sort of limited in what I can do, comic-wise.  If/When I get a scanner hooked up the one of the computers around here, then I might resume my erratic updating of Beastling, as well as PE.

Though, that's a pretty big If, and an equally unreliable "might."

Heh...
Pity. I wish I could help, some how.

Not to worry.  I've a scanner available to me, I just need to get some cables to hook it up, and bring it down here.

cool! i can almost smell the next update!

but please, take your time... i know how frustrating schoolwork can get
Title: Re: discuss the comic

...

How can you smell it?  It doesn't even physically exist, at present, so I sort of have to doubt your claim...

EDIT:  As an aside, I'm considering making a couple smaller, easier (and therefore faster) comics, mostly non-canon, to tide you over 'till the next real update is done.  Any opinions on that?
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: mrlddragon on March 09, 2008, 04:21:00 PM
well dragons have an extraordinary sense of smell, and sense in general

so i guess, to make my claim more politically correct(... or more correct in whatever way would be more believable to you), i should say i can almost "sense" the next update

there, happy?

Post by: Fox on March 11, 2008, 11:49:00 AM
No, no. I smell it, too. Sort of minty..and chocolatey. =D

Heh. Yeah..I know how frusterating not having a scanner can be. Ever considered a graphic tablet? That thing's pretty much made everything about digital drawing easier, even to the point where I sketch digitally, too. There's some pretty good priced ones..probably not as good as Wacom, but they all do the same thing.

Well..I look forward to comic works again, when you do get around to it. ^_^

I'd considered one, once.  With no income, though, that's sorta' out of the question.  Besides, I'm actually getting pretty good at sketching things with the mouse.

On another note, I may have access to my usual scanner, this weekend.  If so, I'll see about sketching and scanning some things, then.

Mint chocolate, huh?  Interesting...

Heh...
Mint-chocolate updates...
Like scratch-and-sniff, but on the computer?... O.o

Yay, for updates!   :D

Well, I'd try the chat with Fox, but I've gotta' go... (being timed is no fun...)   :P

... i don't know what you guys are talking about...

Mint-Chocolate updates?!? O.=.o
they totally smell like Ice-Cream and Sushi!
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on March 14, 2008, 12:01:00 PM
They better not smell like sushi at all.  I have a remarkable distaste for anything pertaining to fish, or seafood.  Tuna is tolerable, but that's about the extent...if it smells like sushi, someone's been getting into my work...

Seriously, though--the next update is all sketched out, and I've inked and colored one panel--lots more to be done, but at least I've made headway.

*sniff, sniff*
^.=.^; oops... that was just some wasabi on the corner of my lappy (laptop)

*sniffs again*
ok, yeah. it was the wasabi. now it smells like ice-cream and *ssniiiiff*... horse radish

Teen Titans reference, by any chance? (ice cream + sushi)

Woo..headway! =D
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on March 15, 2008, 10:04:00 AM
...horseradish isn't my forte, either...

Well, I have access to a scanner, here, but I left the rest of my art supplies at the apartment...whoops.

Ah, well.  I can draw on printer paper, failing all else.

*Laugh!!!*   :D
I find the discussion of the smell of an update very amusing...   ;D

Yay for updates!   :)

When do you think it'll be up?

Hey, er... is there any reason the update might look like this, to me?
At firtst, I just thought it did this because it was loading, but, today, just to make sure, I let it load all the way, and it came out still looking like this:

(I hope you don't mind my copying it, just to make this point... I figure it barely even looks right as anything thing, as it is...)

Looks kind of like what happens when you scroll down while it's loading. It looked right on my computer..so I'm not sure what else to tell ya'.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on March 17, 2008, 03:41:00 PM
Yeah... I don't think that did it, though... and it's not like that at school... but it does that at home... every time I open it...
PE doesn't do it, either...
Does anybody have any clue as to what happened?
I wonder if all the Beastling updates are like that, to me... hold on...
Well, none of the past ones look like that, it's just that one, no matter what I do.    :-/
Title: Re: discuss the comic

Huh....that is odd, indeed. Hope it's not a virus or spyware....

......! quick! get the GEEK squad!!!
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on March 20, 2008, 10:57:00 PM
Heh...

Hm... do you think it's likely that spyware or viruses would do that?..
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on March 24, 2008, 02:08:00 PM
Nope.  That happens if a file doesn't load completely, and get's put into the cache that way.  Clearing your browser cache (also known as deleting you temporary internet files) should let it reload properly, and keep it from looking like that.

Spyware wouldn't even change the look of the image, it'd be nested code.  Besides, Xepher maintains constant checks to make sure nobody accidentally brings some adware/spyware/badware to the server, so I'm pretty sure he'd have told me if there was--not that I think it could have gotten there, since only he and I can access said files...

Regardless, yeah.  Clear the browser cache and try again.  If that doesn't fix it, I'll look at things on my end.
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on March 24, 2008, 03:48:00 PM
Oh, good, I already just did that...   ;D

Well, thanks - now I know what's going on, which is a great aid...   :)
(Now I know what it means...)

Does that happen everytime it does that?
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on March 25, 2008, 05:47:00 PM
Huh?  It'll happen anytime a file gets cached as complete when it isn't, if that's what you mean...
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: mrlddragon on March 27, 2008, 02:31:00 PM
so THAT'S why it does that

you just helped two people Dragyn
i've been to sites that do that and now i know how to fix it ^.=.^
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Faith on March 27, 2008, 10:17:00 PM
Heh!   :D

Well, thanks. ^_^
It bothered me...   :P

And, now I know what to do, in any similar situation...
It was weird... the slides before it weren't bad... but it was...
Why was that, do you know?
Title: Re: discuss the comic
Post by: Dragyn on March 28, 2008, 09:22:00 AM
It's just the way browser caches work.  It's imperfect, but useful nonetheless.

Well, thanks for the help in figuring it out. ^_^
