I think I officially have more topics in the art section. ('tis why I usually tend to make only one thread to dump all my stuff in. ^^; )

What is the darker green stuff on the irken to the left of the one I'm assuming to be Merlin.
From the looks of it, only Merlin has wings... or at least out of that bunch. ?

I don't know how to help you make those look more more like burn-marks... (I've never tried that, myself, though perhaps I should, one day, to see if I can get something anywhere near close...) I've guesses, but am doubtful about the success of those... :P
How did the burns do that? I doubt he was held, sideways, over a fire... the lines are going the wrong way, for one... and that's just unlikely.
Was he "shot" by fire?

It's hard to explain. Kind of. I'd have to go into detail about Sheah and whatnot..perhaps I'll do that later. I'll just say she's a sorceress & that they don't get along.
I do okay with burn marks on people and anthros..but for some reason, I just can't do 'em with Jax. I guess the green skin throws me off....

Hm... likely. 'Cuz you know what colors burns and scars are on people, but the colors on something green might be different.
However, I think it's interesting you could put burn marks on an anthropomorphic thing, but not a green-skinned thing, 'cuz it sounds harder to put it on an anthropomorphic creature, to me...
Unless it wasn't an extremely bad burn, and a really old one, 'cuz then the fur on that area would just turn white.

Hm... once again, I don't know much about making burn marks, but that sounds like it would be much more difficult, to me, than it would be to make burn marks on the greaan-skinned guy... O.o

If ya' have any suggestions as far as anatomy goes, feel free. (before I shade it. D: ) 'Cause I can't help but feel that Argon's head looks a little...off.
Oh..yeah. That's the same dragon, Argon. Elora's a gryphon. (don't think I ever posted her here, though..'cause it's kinda..bad)

Well... if you want suggestions...
His lower lip juts out too much. Maybe you could draw in more of Elora's lips, over his, or make his lower lip smaller, or both? And he doesn't have enough of a head (the back of his head needs to be larger. His headband wouldn't fit his head properly, that way, it would slip up. If it helps... I usually draw the shape of the head in, then add the face, and then the hair.)
Oh, and... if you don't mind my saying... Elora is either too skinny, or at a very difficult to imagine twist at the waist...
Also, Argon's coat is a bit dark, for that background, I think... but that may be just personal preference.
And Elora doesn't have much of a forehead... but that often is a part of particular styles. And I'm guessing Argon's pointed-looking ear is something to do with his being a dragon?
Sorry... that's a lot more than pickiness would explain... but you wouldn't want to see the lists I could write about my stuff... :P

I'll keep in mind about Argon. His ear is way too high up, I did realize that..like..way after I posted this. XD I couldn't quite place the other, though. Thanks for that. :3

Heh. I thought I'd get more time for it, in the Summer, but, if anything, I have less, now that I have that job, and all of those other things I have to do. (I'm trying to find scholarships, now... I think I found one, but I still have to write the essay. :P )

Heh. It's not actually a tattoo. Forgot to mention that. I have my little way of identifying gryphons and dragons. Each has a certain type of marking on their back, where their wings would be.

As in Freddy Krueger. Riff's great-grandmother is Sheah(as seen in the Christmas picture), a nightmare-inducing sorceress. Further along down the line, the magic gene decreased so that all he can really do is delve deep into the minds of his victims and create a fictional scene involving their worst fear/s. Much like, well, Freddy Krueger. Only Riff can't actually hurt them. Any pain they might feel isn't real.
As for the thing on his back..that's what I think is called an ID pak. I'm not really sure what it's actually called in the show..I just read a post somewhere that said that's what it's called. I have a habit of not believing fans..as they have created their own words for various things in the show. (such as baby Irkens. I forget what they called them, but if I recall correctly, in the show, they always just said "baby") All Irkens have them. I have no idea what the actual purpose is, or why they all have them, but it's a nifty little tool, that's for sure. :3

Freddy Krueger is from Nightmare on Elm Street. You probably see lots of 'im out around Halloween time. I really don't like the movie(s)..actually..I don't like any slasher movie, aside from the Halloween series. (excluding 3 and the remake. Rob Zombie ruined it. :< )

I don't really know 'im, but he did a remake of the Halloween movie(despite the fact he said it was not a remake, it really was)..and completely ruined it. He turned the entire storyline upside down without any regards for Halloween 6 at all. (which, while incredibly lame, pretty much told us everything about Mikey) While the series did have it's fair share of sexuality, language and gore, it wasn't anything like the typical slasher. (say, for example, Nightmare on Elm Street & Friday the 13th) That's why I hate most slasher films..and Rob Zombie's remake seemed to be nothing but that.
The way I see it, don't mess with the classics. It's extremely rare somebody goes and makes a remake of something like that and gets away with it.
Sorry about that....I get ranty when somebody screws up my favorite movie/game. :< As for the background..it's a picture of a fire I took..New Year's, I think? I just changed the color.

I really need to start back on the 100 Theme Challenge....I just don't know what to do, yet. I'm working on Blood, but I didn't like the angles on it and scrapped it. I'd like to find one that would give me an opporunity to draw my little-known characters, such as Ripley & Jaguaro. Maybe bring Sydney back. >.> Bah. BAH I SAY. I think I'll just eat Sunchips and play Mortal Kombat, instead. =D

But as for the 100 Theme challenge, I've yet to get past sketching them, so you're doing pretty good in comparison. :P
(I always sketch and then shade them in with my mechanical pencil, then think I should've colored it. Then I decide it doesn't really matter 'cuz I can't scan them anyway, so I don't try not to shade them with my pencil, next time around. And that leaves me about where I am. >.<
Maybe I should ask my friends about their scanner... ... ... XD

Aaand...Ripley & Jags are both, by far, my most amusing characters. (even surpassing Fox) They..inspired a lot of art and inside jokes in the OC Mayhem thread back on RPU.

Ooh, a closeup of the lizard thing. --that proves some of the statements I just made incorrect. Still cool, in spite of pinkness. You're just supposed to pretend that's normal. ;)
And a girl with a sword. Neat!
The coloring isn't consistent, as though the artist got bored and decided to finish the coloring more quickly, after it had been started. The detail lineweights are not really consistent and the centerline of her body seems to zig-zag a bit, but the silly pose and playful composition imply that that brand of criticism is really outside the scope of what you're doing. [/critic]
Do people complain that Charlie Brown's head is too round? There were people who did, UFS has likely since replaced them, with people further from retirement age.
You know,with layers you could have pushed the colors much closer to the lines on her sword and, blah..blah...blah, etc. :) [/fanboy]

Some of the coloring(namely around the edges) was done on purpose. As for other white bits in it....I blame the paper I'm using. Not exactly pencil-friendly stuff. >.< I've ruined many a good Prismas trying to fill in white spaces. :<

D: Considering that I learned Layer-Fu from you, it isn't surprising that we hold similar viewpoints.
Fox: Oh, I thought the other white bits were just specular highlights. See, the different colors take to the paper differently, creating the illusion that you're trying to differentiate the textures of the materials.
If Doom 3 taught the world anything, it taught us to use specular highlights as often as possible, even when it's nonsensical, because specular highlights are just better. It is highly unlikely the world learned anything from Doom 3.[/Game design nerd]

New character. I was watching Primeval, and had a random thought; raptor + dragon. Heh..so Zach's the result of that. (moon brush is from RedHeadStock, btw...)

I just used the brick texture in Photoshop, this time. I had getting all the cast pages for my site on my mind..so I didn't bother with details, like the bricks & the moon. Erg..bad me. *shames self*
Aaaand I don't think I'll bother with the other one. I have a habit of saying/drawing things & they're taken the wrong way. (if you recall..that "male anatomy" bit. I didn't mean it like that! Honest!)

If by "nondistinct", you mean "extremely effeminate", then yes. xD He was actually designed to look that way in both, human & Irken forms..but I guess artistic drift is to blame for that.

Hey, er, would you mind a mention on some form in that'n? The forearms on Raptor are kinda... off; too similar to biceps, I think. And the elbow, on the left, is rather small, and makes the forearm look a bit awkwardly attached.

I don't know. His father is a friend's character, who also has markings like that. I can, however, tell you that he's a "wolfdemon". That is also not of my creation, but another friend's.

Er, at her front...
It could line up. But... it looks lie you did more of a profile, for her upper torso. Meanwhile, there's a twist on her lower body. The connection is hidden behind her arm, but she would have to be far too thin.

Seriously, though..writing's not exactly something I'm good at, so most of these stories tend to fizzle out and get forgotten, right at the climax. Fox is one who I'd really like to write for, though. This particular picture doesn't have it's own little story to it..it's just part of the ongoing Fox-Venessa rivalry.

Cool to have, but hard to tame. Nexus, if I read the Star Wars site correctly, are extremely difficult to domesticate. Xenomorphs are...well...I'm sure anybody familiar with the "Alien" movies knows what xenomorphs are like.
But both of them, combined? Fox had to have had some sort of containment unit, and a lot of patience. Though, while difficult, I imagine it is possible. Nexus are, indeed, often used as guard...cats. Though..could you imagine what that thing would do to an intruder?

It is pretty snakey. Perhaps, to lessen the inhuman aspect, you could try making the arms and legs a bit longer and thinner, to match.
Of course, that might end up looking spidery...

I'd have to agree with Dragyn, on the limbs.
But... there's also a few other things. I think that certain parts of the body should be a bit thinner, and others thicker. The shoulders are rather wide, for what I'd expect in something resembling a snake. Also, the hips are a little too slight, comparatively, with legs that are a bit short for that much body. (I'd be afraid of falling over, if I were her.) The hips should be a bit closer in proportion to the shoulders.

Narrow the shoulders to match the hips, more closely. That'll make her look both more humanoid and more snake-like.

I recently bought a book, on anatomy..so I've been practicing, with that, some. However, it did not include undead anatomy..so I can't help but feel there's something just not quite right, about him. I can't quite place it, though; it might just be his clothes, looking too..clean. (he doesn't like dirty clothes, though..)

I turned up the contrast and brightness on my monitor and saw it just fine. (Oh, and to explain, it might not have needed to be turned up on this monitor, but I always have those settings set to the lowest possibility, for myself.)
The visible bones were put together really well, also. ;)
(Figured I'd say that'n in particular, seeing as that's often a difficult point.)

A slightly yellower green might be easier to pick out, without really changing the message, but once I squint enough to see it through my monitor glare, it looks good.

It's some sort of dragony thing.
Have you ever seen a dead lizard? The skin turns very dark, and leathery. Near-black was actually my first choice, but it would've been even more difficult to see. I'll have to paint an actual background, later on. The one with the plain white background, is quite painful on the eyes. >.>
On a more random note..since it was brought up by other people..the tail is like that, so I could fit it all on the page. (as the original was drawn in a very small sketchbook) It's not..er..censoring. >.>

As an alternative to changing the color, you could add some sort of border or back-lighting effect to pop out the silhouette.
It's faster and easier than adding a real background, but it has a similar effect on the foreground, and backlighting can imply a complex background, left undisplayed.
You'd need the keep the lighting subtle, if you went that way, so as to not overwhelm your shading. A little bit of red glow, from behind the upper right corner, would really make him easier to see, without messing up the shading.
--or you could just do what I do and put a random streak of color back there.
That always makes people think of low budget Japanese cartoons though...

The claws picture looks interesting, but something about the way the claws is a bit off--namely, they seem to come out of his knuckles, and follow the line of his fingers. If they did that, to the extreme which it appears, it would make his hand...stiff. And bloody. And he'd never be able to hold anything again.
Admittedly, such concerns are trivial when you can sprout claws from your knuckles.

Granted he doesn't heal, like Wolverine, when there's giant claws coming out of your hands...one would kinda need, at least in the hands, a small amount of regeneration or healing. If only for that. Still kinda working on that bit.
I'm still trying to work out some minor details, like that, with my cousin, and a friend. (who's also helping me write his backstory..)
As for Fox...um..the reason he's leaning, is probably because I always have my head tilted. >.> I never really notice things like that....

Yeah...to quote a friend, gravity is being a little weird. However, I was trying hard as I could, to copy my own sliding pose. I do lean like that, because I'm not on my knees..I usually land on my legs, and use my feet to slide me forward. Maybe I should just go with a normal slide-pose, if I ever re-do this.

Honestly, except for the point that his pockets should probably be larger, this guy's outfit is pretty much the standard, psuedo-Victorian adventurer's garb.
Steampunk doesn't really dictate a lot of specific gear for characters who aren't pilots(goggles, leather jacket, or scarf), mecenaries (bandoleer, flintlock, or strange weapon) or mechanics (pipe wrench and tool belt). It's really the giant steam pipe mazes, and riveted metal plates, in the backgrounds that define steampunk.

Yes, and that's really why I was having a difficult time, making him look like he was obsessed with steampunk..save for the goggles. If I were to draw his room, it'd be a bit more apparent...but that amount of detail would kill me.
I've been doing more concepts(and I did make his pockets bigger, in those)..and I'll be sure to add thwe wrench & more pouches. I love pouches. Who says you have to put stuff in them? They just look cool!

A brown vest and a pocketwatch could also come in handy, if you want those dynamic diagonal lines across his center line, but just can't swing the bandoleer.

Okay...okay...I know I've been posting a lot of art, lately..but I need critique.
I kinda suck, at drawing kids (http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/1448/avenshoor.png)...and my books don't really cover them. Granted Irkens are a little tougher to work with...any pointers would be awesome. :3

The trickiest part is getting their limbs to bend in the right spots.
Since they're so much shorter, the smallest deviation will seem quite jarring.
If you're going to practice drawing kids, practice drawing them doing things, like running and skipping, to get as many bent legs into each drawing as possible.
Other than that, they have large heads, with small noses and ears (which never stop growing, so old people have large ones) and large round eyes (your eyeballs don't really change size are you grow, just the holes you see them through).

People just respond differently.
Besides that, some funerals are different. Some people make them different.
Example being my Grandpa's... that side of my family tries to look at things from the best possible angle. Instead of mourning one's loss... they like to view it as celebrating one's life. Ask any one of them and they'd /tell you that they don't want people crying at their funeral. :P
Heh. In fact, my Grandpa said he didn't want to go to his funeral. Such a depressing affair.
Turns out, he managed that one when my aunt lost his ashes before... and found them in pain sight at home, later. We went ahead laughed. XD
That's just one very different way of looking at things from many possible ones...
I just think it's perfectly fine and normal and even something to appreciate when a person will cry at a tear-jerker moment and I think it shouldn't be held against a person when they do... guy or girl.

You can complain about it being rough if you want, but I only wish that Dragyn would let me make animations with that kind of frame rate.
Death in five frames? You have to suggest a lot of things that aren't actually there to pull that off.
That said this thing is well crafted and funny. I'd love to see more of them, if your attention span can hold out long enough for it.
I know drawing minor variations of the same pic over and over can be creatively draining, so it's cool if you want to go back to still frames, or whatever.

So I recently checked out The Last Airbender(movie). I was severely disappointed, but I didn't completely hate it. Went home and started watching season 1, as that's what the movie was based on.
I loved it.
I got so into it, I spent another two days watching the other two seasons, and can honestly say that I'm obsessed. I haven't seen such an interesting show, in years. The writing was excellent, the plot was deeply intriguing, and the characters extremely likable.
I only wish I had started watching it, back when it first started. I highly recommend it, if you aren't already into it.

As it happens, I haven't seen the movie, but I was staying at the house of someone who did.
They'd immediately purchased DVD copies of the first several episodes, which I watched with them.
I'm probably going to try and find a copy of the anime to watch, as it was actually pretty good.
As for the art...yeah, that looks about right.
