Title: 100 theme challenge...joyous
Post by: Fox on March 12, 2008, 06:23:00 PM

What is it?

You challenge yourself to draw pictures based on the themes given to you. I might lose interest, but due to some artist's block, it might inspire me to do some nifty things.

Rainbow (http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/6151/18rainbowvj5.png) is up. For those curious..it's also a tribute to the FREAKING AWESOME game, Darkened Skye. In this game, you use Skittles to cast certain spells..and they are not actually candy in the game. >.> Draak, the little gargoyle in the corner, is trying to keep Skye in line, who can't seem to resist their edible look. XD

...

Are they actually supposed to be Skittles in-game, or do they just bear a certain resemblance?

Also:  Good luck with your 100 sketches...

Heh.

Hm... I'm almost interested in trying...
Though, heh, it would take forever, and it wouldn't be that interesting, to others, if I did...   :P

Well, yeah - good luck. ^_^

Bah. Who cares what others think? It's fun! =D

Anyways..yeah. They are indeed Skittles in-game. Skye has to restore the 5 Prisms to their land..which is why I chose it for "Rainbow". XD Bah. I didn't bring my computer/tablet with me to Nana's..so I haven't sketched anything new..but maybe I'll do something tonight. Maybe. It would most likely be "Mirror" or "Deep in Thought" if anything.

Hmm...I can see some interesting possibilities for some of these themes...maybe I'll try it sometime.

Mirror (http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/2198/75mirrorzj6.png) is up. They won't all be fanart....honest! XD

Well...the only thing I kept thinking about for 75 was this one scene in The Last Unicorn, so I decided to try it out with my own interpritation. The horn and hoof are supposed to be the two things that stick out the most. Amalthea, in her human form, started getting confused about just what she was after a while..so the reflection is blurred. You can't tell which is which, but the horn and hoof boldy stand out, showing that even though she's human, she's Unicorn at heart.

Heh.   :D

Neat.   ;)

I remember that... I used to like that movie... a lot...

I like the detail you put into the frame of the mirror.   :)

All right... so perhaps I might just try... but getting it onto the computer... well, that tends to make what's already bad even worse.   :P

Thanks. =3 I was excited when I found it on DVD..'cause I grew up with that movie. x3 (but, oh, the mirror! Why must that evil king have such detailed mirrors! >.<)

Aaaand just finished "Deep in Thought" (http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/6696/deepinthoughtrw1.png). Kind of based on something I did. >.> I was sitting upside down on the sofa..and upon asking just what I was doing, I responded "thinking". They just left me alone in crazytown for a little bit after that. XD (and yes..I have shoes like that. XD) As for what he's thinking about....probably re-decorating that room.

Yet another movie with which I am not familiar.  Ah, well.  Fancy mirror, though

Ya' know, sitting upside down is actually a decent thinking position.  It gives you a conveniently different perspective on things.
Title: Re: 100 theme challenge...joyous
Post by: Faith on March 16, 2008, 03:17:00 AM
*Laugh!!!*   :D

I do that a lot, myself...
And crazy-town is a nice place, for those who care to go there. ^_^

Sitting upside down reminds me of when I was little, and everything looked like that...
Well, when you think of it as not upside down...

It's just some cartoon about a unicorn, who discovers that she's the last free one, remaining, so she goes to free the rest of the unicorns from this evil king and his red, flaming bull, which chased them into the sea many years ago, because the king is a mad-man who isn't happy unless he sees unicorns.
I think you can get most of the picture, from that...
Title: Re: 100 theme challenge...joyous
Post by: Fox on March 16, 2008, 11:02:00 AM
Indeed. I didn't realize it back when I was a wee lass, but it was a bit....racey..I think is the term. >.> It was rated "G", but it did sneak a curse word in, and the nude harpy..>_>

*cough* Anyway. Schmendrick is cute. <3

Oh..and Seeking Solace (http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/484/seekingsolacean0.png) is up. Forgot to put shine on Dragos' claws, but it's my grandmother's birthday & we're about to eat and do fun stuff. I did a picture silimar to this with Aara, when she tackled Argon & another where she was clinging to Fuego's tail. (apparently, that's where Fox gets his love for fluff from. XD) Dragos probably wouldn't have minded his fluffy tail being glomped if it was a fangirl..but I think Fox disturbs him a bit. XD

*edits* Didn't want to double-post.

Thanks. Heh...motivation....something I lack often. >.< Procrastination is fun, though.

Anyway. I have completed "Breathe Again", but as it states, I will not be posting it here due to it being kind of graphic. (nudity, though it doesn't actually show anything..but mostly gore.)

Under the Rain (http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/9269/undertherainpr8.png) & Hold my Hand (http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/7943/holdmyhandfz9.png) are done & up. A slight warning on "Hold my Hand", though. It does not contain gore/nudity, as Breathe Again does, but there are some..suggestive bits. Such as Phantasma's rotting clothes and the zombie thing. Nothing bad, though. It was actually rather unnerving when "Some Kind of Zombie" started playing the moment I finished. O.O
Title: Re: 100 theme challenge...joyous

Heh.   ;D

I like the rain, too... but I don't have cool wings, and... I don't think sitting on clouds'll work for me...   :P

And for the zombie hand... I kinda actually expected as much...   :P
Either that or another fangirl-thing...

But, yeah: they're neat. ^_^

Heheheeee.....x3

Actually...to be honest....I have no idea where Zeera's sitting. XD

Anyway. Danger Ahead (http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/2203/56dangeraheadma5.png) is up, and Saftey First should be up later today. (I hope....) I had planned on doing Saftey First, but Breanna made the suggestion for Danger Ahead..so I thought I should do her suggestion for the latter. Saftey First is an inside joke..but we've all been there.

.... Poor Fox. He'd probably rather take his chances with the spider. I know I would. My grandmother used to do that to me. >.< So along comes an innocent little spider, and she whacks me, making sure that mean spider wouldn't walk in my general direction, I guess. When it's gone, she'd just turn around & ask if I was okay.  My response was something along the lines of "You just reptured a lung & possibly my liver, but other than that I'm peachy!" XD
Ignore that bit. I re-drew it, since.

Oh, yeah. I still suck at angles. Just fyi.

I look forward to Safety First, then...

Heh... yeah, I would've been far happier with a spider, myself...   :P

Saftey First won't be around for a while, if this keeps up. Figured I would make an announcment here..since it's just as good as any other tiopc. I have been having this really weird headache since Thursday night....it hurts just below my head, where the neck starts. I'm loosing focus, and can't see anything other than bright, streaking lights dancing around. Not to mention it hurts like heck. My dad says he, uncle Kirk, and Jennifer have had the same thing, so I guess it's good to know it's nothing major. SOrry sor any typos....I can't see the keyboard & I'm kind of just winging it. So I'll be taking a break until this all clears up.

Gee... I hope you get better, soon...
(Ya' did well for winging it.)

Any ideas as to what it is?

Well... take care, and get well...
Title: Re: 100 theme challenge...joyous
Post by: Fox on March 24, 2008, 04:25:00 PM
Thanks. No..not really. My grandmother says it's allergies, but my dad & Jennifer think it might be viral..since nobody's had sinus headaches near like this.

Anyway..it's..better. Not 100%, but not nearly as bad as it was then. Geez..my stomach finally starts to get better, and now it's my head. XD Hopefully it won't last, though. I still probably won't be drawing for a while, though..I think that's just a liiittle bit too much for me right now. (I might at least put some sketches up....maybe.)

=3 Well....just as my head started to feel better, my cousin had to bring home a cold. T_T I'm getting better, though. Better enough to have done both, Saftey First and Love! =D Yay me!

Love (http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/4578/lovekt8.png)- I think I mentioned my love of cars before..and the one I'm insanely obsessed with is none other than the Pagani Zonda. (this particular model is supposed to be the C12 S 7.3....)

Saftey First (http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/9644/safteyfirstfb0.png)- We've all been there. Driving down the road, and a sudden stop is made. All of a sudden, your mother/grandmother/other female guardian's arm goes flying into your gut. My dad came up with this thing called "Sudden Stop 3000", based on that. So blame him for this picture. XD (We're thinking about going on American Inventor with this thing..being all serious..and then act all sad when they tell us to leave. XD We're so bad.)

You're an awful lot better at drawing cars than I, that's for sure...Impressive work.

SS3K, huh...

Peculiar.
Title: Re: 100 theme challenge...joyous
Post by: Fox on March 28, 2008, 08:24:00 PM
Heh..thanks. It's been 12 years or so since I last attempted drawing a car picture, outside of silly comics. I got the top too high, and slightly tilted..but that's what I get for inking zoomed in so close. >.< (I had planned on fixing it, but being zoomed in, I just forgot about it. By the time I noticed, I was already done. Silly me.)

~Heh..I think I've put it of for a couple of years. So summer's not bad, considering the rate of my procrastination. XD (I have pictures I've owed some people for over a year..a plushie for nearly two years..and 80% of my character's backstories have been put off for a good 4 years. D= ) So it could be worse. You could be a lazy procrastinating sillyhead like me. =D

*on a side note* I was planning on doing several others first, but last night I took a break from this and did another meme (http://fc05.deviantart.com/fs28/f/2008/088/e/6/Fandom_meme_by_SuperScoobyGirl.png), and really liked this one doodle(#7)..I'm going to re-do that, in a bigger version, for "Family".

Edit note: Family & Stars are both up.

Family (http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/9306/46familydn9.png) ~ Blake's got that expression like he's about to do something evil. Perhaps slip a spider down Fox's shirt or something. Slightly frightening as it is, I actaully find Blake fairly attractive. ^^;

Stars (http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/8265/starsaq9.png) ~ Oh, gosh, I haven't drawn this guy in YEARS. I dunno how the picture came about. *shrug* Zippo's always been one of my favorite quad characters, and I've been itching to see what he'd look like in anthro version. I think he turned out very cute. <3 (and that tail....I freaking love his tail....even more than Dragos')

Post by: Faith on March 31, 2008, 09:29:00 PM
Heh.   :D

Nice.   ;)

I like Stars.   :)
Zippo's face was a little dark, compared to the background... but the sky and grass was really neat, and Zippo, himself, looked good, also.

What Switchfoot stong is stuck in your head?

Yeah..German Shepherds are difficult for me to do right. Anything with a dark face, actually. (like leeemuuuurss....D= )

The song is called "Stars". XD

Tower's up (http://superscoobygirl.deviantart.com/art/54-Tower-81592282). Forgot to post it. The story behind it is that the Teen Titans are about 3 years older, and Robin has decided to leave. (becoming Nightwing) I might try to write a little mini-fic about it.

What has it to do with a tower?

Well... one comment as to the up-close detailed version layered with the shadowy far-off bit...
I'd've moved the part with the people off to the side... it... it kinda looks like the girl is going to eat one of 'em.
But, other than that, it was good. I really like the clouded appearance of the background.

Yeah..at the time I did it, my vision was slightly impared. So thanks for pointing that out.

As for the tower bit! The Titans are quite often seen doing something on the top of the T-Tower. Vollyball, medatating, etc. So that's where they are. I guess you'd have to be familiar with the show. Aheh..^^;

And the new one?
Title: Re: 100 theme challenge...joyous
Post by: Fox on April 05, 2008, 01:30:00 PM
I did. It was part of DA's April Fool's joke, but I'm still kind of upset about it, so I won't get into it. I made those to kind of spite it. (since I hate Pokemon....and it was a Pokemon prank) I made one with a tokay gecko, too..but the fox one seems to have gotten hugely popular at DA. o_O
Sorry. We were talking about an avatar. Ignoooore all that about the gecko.

Aaaaand on a side note....I gotta start inking some more themes. >_> Also an edit note. I forgot Blake's gloves on Family. DUH. It's fixed now. Woo.

EDITS: Relaxation (http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/6592/100relaxationlg0.png) is up. Probably the first & only self-portrait you'll ever see of me. Anyway. My cats do this to me. I'll lay down on the couch for just a few minutes, or so I think. I'm suddenly swarmed by felines. XD Each one's position is based on real-life.
One on the top of the sofa: Sammie
One being suffacat-er..cuddled: Penny
One on top of me: Nala
One curled by my legs: Orion
One on my feet: Bubba

Nice work, all in all.   ;)

My room is the cats' favorite hangout, too. XD It's annoying, though, when I want my door shut. If Orion isn't yowling at me, it's usually Penny clawing at the bottom. >_<

Heh....as I sit here typing, Nala's laying on me and I can't see a bloody thing 'cause her fat head's in the way. XD

Edit~ Childhood (http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/4217/childhoodgg6.png) is up....and I spent way more hours then I should have on it. @_@ I did have lots of fun with it..and even though Zim shouldn't know any of those names, that just adds to the humor..I think, anyway. x3 Poor Fox....he hates his name.

My name is weird because it's Jewish. In case I failed to mention it elsewhere, I'm German. XD

Introduction (http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/2162/1introductionrr2.png) is done....woo. 'Tis an illistrated scene from a mini-story thing, explaining how Velociraptor & Sage met. (the parlor they're in is a place in Galveston..and it is the best ice cream parlor EVER, imo. <3)
Title: Re: 100 theme challenge...joyous
Post by: Faith on April 11, 2008, 03:47:00 PM
What mini-story would that be?

Hm... would you mind my asking what your name is?
I don't think sharing first-names, only, would hurt anything.
There're a lot of people with my name, even in just my little high school, anyway...   :)
Title: Re: 100 theme challenge...joyous
Post by: Fox on April 11, 2008, 04:51:00 PM
A sort of spin-off from another backstory-like thing I'm working on.

I'm not afraid of using my last name. Last time I searched my name, nothing came up. ^_^ It's Hannah. Oh, it gets funnier, though! My last name is 100% German, being "Ryman". XD So anybody that would know our family history would think that it's somewhat humorous when I tell them my name.

*edit* Magic (http://img356.imageshack.us/img356/1720/62magichz2.png) is up. It's slight homage to the movie, The Prestige..in case you were wondering about the ball. If you've seen it, you'd get it. It's hard to explain without giving major spoilers, though.

Alright, to clarify (since there's apparently some confusion); willing sharing of personal information (IE, names) is fine.  If I think you're giving more info than necessary or advisable, I'd probably just edit it anyway.

Though, if you actually care about who I am, about as much info as you're liable to get out of me is already hidden in the "bio" page...I don't tend to give that info willingly.

For instance, when asked to give my age on a survey in speech class, I couldn't bring myself to actually offer that info, so I just put "N/A"...the person taking the survey didn't seem to appreciate it, much...

Hehehe...   ;D

Hm... I've been unsure as to whether or not I'd want to even say my name on the Internet, but after some thought, who on Earth cares, anyway?   :P
Alicia, Burnham... I really don't like my last name, either... my whole name is just weird... >.<
My last name apparently means river town/house or hill house/town... (a.k.a. house/town by a river or on a hill) which isn't so bad as it sounds... I suppose find it somewhat amusing that everyone's telling me I'm buring stuff (ham, mainly...) when my name is originally of more relation to a river...

I asked your name, mainly 'cuz I was curious... once I hear a little bit about something, I generally really want to learn about the whole thing...   :P
You guys just may have already noticed that about me...

The Prestige?
I don't even recall having heard of it...   :P

I'd say that the main area of complaint would be the upper body of the cat-individual...
Other than that, it's rather good. I like how you made the little magic-ball thing.
Gee, that sounds articulate... >.<
Title: Re: 100 theme challenge...joyous
Post by: Fox on April 15, 2008, 01:29:00 PM
You'd probably have to define "upper body"..'cause some things were done on purpose. Shoulders? Chest? Torso? ...... Face?

Oh..and The Prestige is about two rivaling magicians.
Title: Re: 100 theme challenge...joyous

Ah. Her face was what's bugging me. XD (can't draw them Japanese eyes, y'know?)

The character herself isn't related to the movie..just the little red ball. ^^;

Anywho..just a couple seconds away from putting "Light" (http://img2.putfile.com/main/4/1111812049.jpg) & "Dark" (http://img2.putfile.com/main/4/11118120461.jpg) up. An IM friend gave me the idea for this. I told him I would do a Robin/Raven picture, and he suggested I should do milk/chocolate milk for the Light/Dark themes..so I did both. x3 (hey, I never specified whether I'd do a fluff pic, just one with the two of 'em! =D)

Both characters are from Teen Titans. As you might have noticed....I have a bit of an obsession with that show. XD (~fwee....my t-shirt came in last night, too. <3)

No Way Out (http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/1825/nowayoutxk3.png) is seconds away from being put up. First time I've ever really bothered illistrating a piece of Raptor's backstory, and I must say..I like how it turned out. The only thing that really bugs me is the way Nathan's head is leaning..he's supposed to be looking down, but it looks more like he's resting it on his shoulder. Ah well. I haven't felt great lately..I blame it on ick. (there's plenty mistakes I can point out, but meh. I'm doing this for fun.) The stuff in the vile isn't blood, just...fyi. If you notice Raptor's skin color(on Introduction).....it's the same. =3

After this, I can assure you it won't be the last time I draw little Nathan. 'Cause he's adorable. <3

His dad's got a twisted way of doing things, and has the idea stuck in his head that he could create a whole new species. Unfortunately, he used humans to test these theories on.

On a random note....there are reasons I haven't been around, lately. One of which is working on my website (http://www.rcacomics.net)..others include major stress from things I'd rather not discuss. >.> I'll try to pop up every now & then.

Tomorrow's our last day. C: Might get Breanna & go straight to town for some first-day-of-summer-vacation fun.

Not sure I follow. I've drawn several girls with Fox. ^^; There's Alex(the salamander), and Sam...think I only drew them all with him once, though? Toni's the only one I've done more than once. >.>

Anywho. As you can see, I've been a busy little beaver. Starvation (http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/144/starvationws8.png), In the Storm (http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/1609/inthestorm1xk3.png), and Horror (http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/4065/horrortk9.png) are all up. Post by: Dragyn on June 08, 2008, 03:00:00 AM
Hmm...been awhile since I looked at these...don't expect me to comment on them all...

Hmm...for Starvation, you might have used a brighter color than black for the guy on the right's speech; it's sorta' hard to read against the red.  It took me a bit to even notice it.  Using the background as bubbles is interesting, though, and I like the way it works.

Drowning looks pretty good (er...the picture does, that is), though it was big enough it didn't finish loading on this connection.  Water is tricky, but what I could see of it looked pretty good.

In the Storm is huge, but it looks pretty good.  I'm curious as to whether you draw all the raindrops individually, or if you had some filter/effect that did it for you...by their placement and sweep/strokes, I'd assume you drew them manually.  I'm not at all sure what the black and white thing in the bottom-right corner is.  I am also rather unsure of the perspective.  The helmsman there (not sure if it's anyone I should recognize) seems to be standing on a diagonal floor, while the mast seems to be on a nice horizontal floor (thus making it vertical).

Beyond that, it looks a lot more like an actual ship that most of my works, so good work, there.

I look forward to more of these.

1- There was some reason I didn't bother with Starvation..but I don't remember, so I guess shame on me. XD Really, though..black text was a bad choice. I don't remember why I did it..but I've been intending to go back and change it. >.>

2- I should state that, for the actual pool, I used a brush. I dunno why I didn't say that here..oops. ^^; The other water effects were hand-brushed, though.

un 3- Yeah..I did screw up on the mast. I guess I was just so intent on getting it finished, I didn't notice. The rain was hand-brushed..because PhotoShop went wonky on me a while back and deleted all the rain brushes I had pre-made. :/ So not that great quality rain. I used one splash brush I downloaded. ....The black & white "thing" in the corner is his tail. I guess I should've made it more behind him. >.> Lemur tails are so fun, though. XD

I have nervous hands..so I draw compulsively. Probably the only reason I get 'em done as fast as you say. ^^;

Smile (http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/8646/marcr3.png) is up, btw. I didn't intend to make it a theme..'twas just a random Marlin. He never smiles..and that's what I was gonna title it on DA..so I just made it a theme. XD

So do I, but I do other stuff with them... not so productive, though. (Picking at things or chewing my nails isn't what I'd call productive, anyway.)
And, when I do make things, I usually take forever...

But then, even if I had the pictures for this, I couldn't use the scanner... (it's sole purpose is to kill the appearance of a drawings, no matter how crummy they looked, to begin with.)

Is that Merlin in your avatar?

*double-post!* o= Sorry.

*dusts this thread off* I'm at it again! I was doing Blood..but I didn't like the angles on it..so I scrapped it to start over later & started doodling something else. I liked the sketch & figured.."Hey! This would be great for #87!" So "Food" is currently in the works.

Aara just thinks they are bonding. Hatchet has different ideas. =3

Yeah. I always have fun with them. x3

I think I'll probably be doing some stuff by hand, for a while. I'd hate to be in the middle of something, then have the power go out on me. :< So maybe I'll work on Blood or Teamwork.

By the way, Faith, if you ever decide for sure if you want to do this..there's more than one version, I found out. =3 I might try them, later.
Version 1 (http://100themeschallenge.deviantart.com/journal/17895307/) (the one I'm currently doing)
Version 3 (http://100themeschallenge.deviantart.com/journal/17895289/) Version 2 was cut out due to a couple suggestive Themes.
Version 4 (http://100themeschallenge.deviantart.com/journal/17895205/) Definitely the one I'm gonna do, next. =3
Version 5 (http://100themeschallenge.deviantart.com/journal/17895186/) This one has some interesting possibilities, as well.

*EDIT* Teamwork (http://superscoobygirl.deviantart.com/art/41-Teamwork-101312337) is done!

<.<

Dangit. I hate double-posting. Pain (http://rcacomics.net/images/pain.png) is up, along with Teamwork. See above post for the latter.

I really like how Pain turned out..especially for something done purely out of boredom. I don't normally use fan-based OCs for expressive pictures, but Jax seemed to fit quite well.

There could be many reasons why he's so sad. Maybe because he can't go home..or because he's in pain...but I'm willing to bet it's because that orb lamp is giving him nightmares. D:
Title: Re: 100 theme challenge...joyous
Post by: Faith on October 19, 2008, 05:07:00 PM
The Jax's is sad. But it's really good... ':)

Heh. XD
I liked the lamp.   ;D

Hm... Teamwork reminds me of X-men, kinda. (Wolverine and Storm.) ':D
But in a somewhat indirect way. Mostly the clouded eyes and weather effects, and then the "claws."
Turned out quite nicely, also.   ;)
I might give a suggestion, though...
Raptor's leaning a bit far for that pose, yeah, but it's not too bad, 'cuz it kinda gives the impression of action, and the tail addition might help him maintain balance.
Mostly, to me, it's that Sage's neck looks... kinda uncomfortable... >.<
But it's still good.

Seeing some of the positions my cats get in...I'm sure Sage is fine. She is feline, after all. :3

Seriously, though..I see what you're saying. I have a habit of drawing people all twisted..and take it for granted, the fact they're anthro means they should always be contorted. I need to stop doing that....

Jax makes me want to huggle him. 3: Also..that lamp in Jax's room would be kinda cool..but can you imagine waking up at 2am with that thing sitting next to your bed? D:

*sneakies in Illusion (http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/4576/illusionvd3.png)*
Sheah, Nika, and Riff are by far three of my darkest OCs. It's kind of weird, though. Sheah's family seems so evil..until you get to Kym..who's this care-free, all-out lovable person.. (http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/2842/kymiq9.png)..then when it gets to Riff, it goes back to evil. I..never noticed that. ._.

*Evil thing glows vehemently at me all night, reminding me that I technically have to be getting up and ready for school in five hours...*
...
Well, that's when I went to sleep, last night, anyway... XD

Heh.
I think they're more likely to be marshmellows... their colors and mostly cylindrical shape makes me think so, anyway... =J

It's well done.   ;)
I only have one suggestion... she twists in a way I'd consider rather uncomfortable, at the waist, and it doesn't help make her look any less thin. The line down the center of her back doesn't exactly help, either. And together it doesn't exactly fit at her hips.
So that's just one little problem area.

The background's neat...   ;D

Hm... thinking of particular problem areas...
I can't seem to draw this guy's face, in my next bit for the 100 Themes.
Maybe that's 'cuz I'm trying forms of facial contortion, and this is not really an expression I'm familiar with, when it comes to drawing... or perhaps it's cuz I can't draw guys...   :P  XD
All in all, I was wondering if ya'll have suggestions that might help, actually.

Well, I gave up Katarizo's update in order to spend some time with my cousin, who also has been my muse through some of these.

Last night, she gave the "Cat" (http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/5215/23catuv2.png) sketch a thumbs up & giggle. So that's done & up. :3

I really do hate it when I see a cartoon or something, and an anthro has a pet. Kinda like Mikey & Pluto. It seems so freaking wrong.

EDIT:
Blood (http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/9679/17bloodrl8.png) is up. I didn't bother putting a warning on it, because the title in itself should serve as warning enough.

This was originally intended to be a bit of a spoiler for Raptor's story..but since I mentioned a few bits in his profile on RCA (http://www.rcacomics.net/cast_nathan), it's not such a spoiler, anymore. D: Ah well. I'm not really happy with the way his dad is positioned, but I do like Raptor's expression. I might re-do it, when I learn how to properly draw angles.

Huh... I'm getting to be on here far more often than I thought I would be... XD

Hehehehe... XD
I always thought the pets were more like companions, i n those situations. Well, usually, some are obviously pets, like Mikey and Pluto. But I was, how old last time I watched that? XD
*Shrug*
Good work. =J

Blood is impressive.   ;)
Sad, but impressive. It looks more like something I would do, theme-wise, at least. I was expecting something else entirely. XD
You don't do serious stuff often, but you it well. You did the angle of his father quite nicely. Only his legs throw it a bit off.
The blood on the floor appears to be streaming rather than pooling in many areas, like I believe it would do on that floor and it looks like you forgot to finish the effects on the blood at Raptor's hands, but it's very well done.   ;)

There were a few things I forgot. Between a recent sinus infection, and my bordering nearsightedness, I couldn't really see where I went out-of lines, so to speak. Upon closer inspection, I noticed I need to fix some of those areas where I shaded....blerg. So there's a few things, other than the missing blood, I need to fix.

As for the pooling! I've had a somewhat strange love for the way liquid pools/streams, and if there's one thing I've noticed over the years, is that oftentimes, it'll pool in multiple areas until the two(or more) pools meet, and creat a bigger pool, creating a stream along the way. So that was the effect I was going for. I..guess I didn't really pull it off, well. ^^; Ah, well.

I'm sorry to hear you're sick.
*Get well soon wishes*

Heh. Well, it turned out well, overall.   ;)
As for the liquid pooling bit, well, that'll get better when you're more practiced in that. I don't know that I've tried it, yet, myself, so I'm just gonna' say is probably difficult. I do look at that sort of stuff a lot, though, and I can get what you were going for. You weren't that far off.

(Don't mind me, too much, when I go on bouts of listing tiny details... really, most people just accept that I'm possibly OCD and know that I'm just hopeless that way. XD For example, during tests and assignments, I'm often the one of the last to finish because I can't let an answer be left written in letters or numbers that look deformed, or something. XP )

Oddly enough, I -am- obsessive compulsive, but I don't do that. My handwriting sucks; and I don't care. xD I don't really tend to obsessive over things like that..I'm more the neat-freak, 120-different-phobias type.

I need to do a Katarizo- or RCA-related theme. I haven't done any comic characters in my themes. D:

*Laugh!!!*   :D

Little things bother me, like that handwriting bit or broken patterns, I overdo menial tasks, like picking my nails or washing stuff... and I am a bit of a nut for organization, though nothing ever looks organized. >.<
My school stuff, for example, is organized, it's just falling apart so looks like anything but... and... well, I never have time to clean my room, and when I do, I get focused on one thing and never get everything done.   :P
Hm... I was just cleaning, ironically... need to get back to that...

Don't have any phobias, though. ^_^
Maybe that's a bad thing, and 'twould be good for me to have some healthy fears... but for the most part I'm the wack-job who'll do the the crazy thing first. I don't know why. I just don't mind doing it. *Shrug*   ::)
This is turning out to be very interesting conversation. XD

Heh. That'd be fun to see.   :)
Maybe you could do that brown and white spotted guy. I don't know what exactly he is... ':D

Seth? He's a coati. :3 I might try to find something for him..he's fun to draw. Course..I have near 50 or so characters that I rarely/never draw, and others that are just forgotten..so I might try to focus the remaining themes on them. (except Kick in the Head. I have something else in mind for that, rather than the dragon/gryphon thing I was planning....)

I think I'm going to try to find another theme for La King. (http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/2162/1introductionrr2.png) 'Cause the Strand suffered quite a bit of flooding damage, and that's my favorite place in Galveston. I mean..it'd just be in the background, but still. :3

A coati? Never heard of 'em. Now I have to look it up.   ;D
Oh, and the capitol of Poland. But that's something else.

Warsaw (Warszawa.) Heh. I know, I must seem very strange right now, even to the person on here who would be the only one to know why I did that. XD

Aw, that's cute. ^_^

La King? Galveston?
(Nice work, though. Even if I have no clue what it's about. XP Did you do the wood grain, by hand?)
Title: Re: 100 theme challenge...joyous

Galveston was hammered by Ike..so here's hoping La King survived. It's a really good ice cream parlor/candy shop.

Oh, Kick in the Head (http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/7950/58kickinthehead2ub1.png) is up! Really. You didn't think I was just going to leave that Halloween comic as is, did you? :3 In all honesty, I just wanted to draw Raptor getting the snot kicked outta him. x3

Cookie if you get the reference, btw.

*EDIT*
Tears (http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/8735/tearshx9.png) is up. Granted, it's not the best art I've ever done...but I'm really not good at portraying that particular emotion, (Gimme malice, any day!) at least I got to draw Veleno for the first time in....years.

*EDIT2*
Just got Creation (http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/2946/creationgo2.png) done. Trying to knock some of these out, 'cause I have two weeks filled with comics..so..yeah. Heh..Fox hasn't eaten pizza since that incident....

Anywho...Misfortune (http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/1409/misfortuneqp5.png) is up..and I must warn, there is a bit of gore involved.

Why was Fuego hit with a whaling harpoon? I have no idea. I guess that's left up to your imagination. xP
Title: Re: 100 theme challenge...joyous
Post by: Faith on November 30, 2008, 07:00:00 PM
Um, ouch?

Pretty detailed, I'd just say that the wound looks a bit flat, at the opening point; too straight, more of a slice rather than a tear/burst through. It would probably spread blood a bit differently on Fuego; as is, it just looks like there's a little bit in the fur, right at the rim of the tear. Maybe more spread, considering the, er, explosive nature of the injury.

But other than that, yeah; very detailed. In fact, I suggest the squeamish do not look. XD
Fuego's good, considering the fact that he's been impaled by a harpoon.
Title: Re: 100 theme challenge...joyous

Um...

Ouch?

Yeah, a bit smooth of a break, and not as much spatter as would be expected, though that may just be a matter of taste...

Taste...

mmmm....blood.
Title: Re: 100 theme challenge...joyous
Post by: Fox on December 01, 2008, 09:19:00 AM
I did the marks in the fur to show more of a break, but, as usual, failed. The bigger opening is on the other side..but meh.

Also..there's so little actual spatter, because of his immortality. The blood coagulates when a major injury occurs, until it heals; otherwise he'd be one big walking mess. There's more spatter at the end of the harpoon than there is at the actual impact point, because of this.
(of course..I probably would have added just a bit more, had I been working in Photoshop, rather than Paint..and had I not sustained an injury to my right thumb..)

See? This is why I need to get back to writing bios about my characters....

Er, Dragyn? Have you been eating lately?
And... um... should I ask what?

Heh.   ;D
Did it ever say he was immortal? I don't recall that. *Shrug*
I might add that there could've been more of an, well, effect (blood, tear, whatnot) while still complying with that, by just keeping it near or on him. But I see how that would be difficult to draw.
...
And so is yet another bizarre conversation. XD

Title: Re: 100 theme challenge...joyous

"Small entry wound, large exit wound"

High velocity projectiles will leave a cone shaped hole in the victim, because the impact shockwaves spreading through the tissue, tearing it apart. A low velocity round, or a high tensile strength tissue might prevent that cone, but a bullet going that slow will generally lodge inside before it passes through a target, particularly through the trunk or the body.

You're never going to have a larger entry wound than exit wound on a thu-and-thu, even if the rounds are sub-sonic, (Which can happen, but usually only with rounds designed to punch through armor.)

Judging from the lack or tearing and spatter, as well as your comments, the tensile strength of his tissue must be several times greater than that of normal organic matter. If he's really that solid, we should see some degree of damage to the harpoon itself, like a blunted point and the hooks bent back.

It's hard to understand how such a well sized treble hook could have left such a small wound, and still gotten all the way trough. The wound is smaller than the cross section of the projectile at every angle.

One could argue that his tissue, while while high in tensile strength is still as elastic and flexible as that of an ordinary person (possibly even more so), allowing it to squish to the sides, allowing a large projectile to pass, but snapping back to leave a much smaller hole. This is akin to what happens when you put a fishhook through your finger, and like in this picture, the only way to get it out, is going to be to push it all the way through.

Fun.

If you ever do decide to work out how the physics of his immortality work, I encourage you to keep in mind the effect that changes in density or composition would have on his mass. Being heavier will make it so that it takes more force to through him around, while being lighter will allow him to survive hits that throw him a considerable distance.

The first one allows him to stop a bus with himself or perform other superhero like tricks, while the other lends itself to him getting thrown by the bus without seriously damaging either.

Also, does his immortality come with super strength, or if something large falls on him is he pinned (as opposed to being crushed or able to push it off of himself)?

Indestructible super-heroes with believable physics is a brand of mental acrobatics I enjoy from time to time, hence this excessive post. It's a tricky problem, and a lot harder to do in a universe without magic.

Care to explain how you pulled off that wicked sweet, star field?

I like the diffuse light around the stars too.
How'd you pull that one without layers?
Title: Re: 100 theme challenge...joyous
Post by: Fox on December 17, 2008, 07:10:00 PM
I did the starfield first. I just used the magic wand tool for the window, and inked everything else after I got that done.

The stars are brushes of various sizes and colors set at "scatter", about 50-70% opacity, and spaced rather far apart. Then motion blur for the, well...motion blur.
Title: Re: 100 theme challenge...joyous
Post by: bloodreaper on December 18, 2008, 02:43:00 PM
Nuts.

I don't think my brush tool has a "scatter" setting.

I've been using a Duplicate Layer + Gaussian Blur, for a similar effect, but it doesn't leave those nice misty centers, or have such a nice sense of depth.

It's hard to do sci-f if you can't draw stars, without losing the snse of distance.

*blows the dust off this thread*
I've been busy with school, and arts. Yeeg.

Update #1: I re-did "Danger Ahead" (http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/2203/56dangeraheadma5.png). A little bit more painful, for Fox, this time...but at least the anatomy on Alex is a lot better.

Update #2: Night (http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/4350/night2vq5.png) is up. I had to edit out some words, as they weren't exactly appropriate to post. What's going on, here? Well..after the violence depicted, in the family portrait picture (http://rcacomics.net/files/family_portrait_2.0.png), one can only imagine.

Currently working on Fairy Tale, and soon after will be sketching I Can't. Also discussing some concepts for Mother Nature, with one of my art muses.

Post by: Dragyn on January 20, 2009, 05:19:00 PM
Ooh...That's gotta' hurt...

Heh.  I think I like the new version of Danger Ahead better, actually...

As for Night, it looks like her neck attaches a put too far forward for her shoulders to be where they are, as well as the rest of her body...or maybe her shoulders just look like they're too far back 'cuz of the way her hair goes over them, or something...

Anyway, the rest of the piece looks good.
Title: Re: 100 theme challenge...joyous
Post by: Fox on January 21, 2009, 09:38:00 AM
A lot of it has to do with her hair. 'Cause the actual sketch looked okay, but when I added the hair..it was all..weird.

Fairy Tale (http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/3972/fairytaleyy4.png) and I Can't (http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/4295/icantkw1.png) are both up. I know...I'm whipping these out, fast. I need to get 'em done, 'cause I have requests to do...and I won't be able to do anything, come February.

Fairy Tale was fun. Wings were annoying..but at least it was enjoyable. The guy in green is a friend's character...'cause I only have two effeminate winged guys. ^^;

I Can't actually has a story behind it..but it'll most likely never see the light of day. The gun was fun to color, though. The reason behind the stormy background, here, was so I could draw a wet ground; because he's actually sliding down..and I didn't know how I'd show that, without mud/water/pebbles. Anatomy seems off....but neither I, nor my art/anatomy consultant could pinpoint it.

Oh, neat.   :D

Ooo...
*Pity for Fox*
I'm so glad I'm not a guy... ... ...   :P

Night's pretty entertaining... XD
Her tail looks a little awkward... trying to draw something sitting like that must be difficult with a tail... XP (I've gotta' try, now...   ;D  )

I'd say the joint at the knee looks a little skewed... it bends over to one side too far, and then it looks like it's bending quite a bit more than shading along the shin implies...
Maybe if you asked someone to model it for you, you'd figure out the quirks? Or if you tried it, yourself?
Those were just things I'd attempt, off the top of my head.
Realy, though, I do think it's neat. I'd like to know the story...?

I...found myself reading through the ENTIRE Crazy Quotes thread. It's very late, now. Typos will likely be abundant. :3

I still have the sketch....so I might re-do it. Preferably when it's not 3am. As for the story? It's actually part of a longer story...but I'll see if I can sum it up, in a few sentances:

Fox's rival is a shapeshifting alien, named Venessa. He was at a point where he had to possibly shoot her, or risk a massive killing of bystanders. Due to his pacifistic beliefs, he backed out..and Venessa took out a small crowd. Which then leads to this particular scene......right after, he goes into a fit of heaving.

@Blood: I should hope so, anyway. D:

@Faith: Thank yoooou. I've been practicing wings. :3

@Dragyn: He's actually free-falling, and the feathers on his antennae don't really serve any purpose..so that's most likely why some feathers are flying off.

"Tonight we are going to talk about:

"Murder."

I like the Noir silhouette idea. It has a much more brutal and violent connotation than showing the action more directly.

The detail levels on the silhouette outlines are just right.

The murder does seem a bit cold blooded though. It looks more like an execution than a crime of passion. Giving the pistol more kick, or a larger muzzle flash, would make the shooter seem less emotionally distant from the killing and dying. This feels almost too calculated and clean to be titled "Seeing Red'.

Maybe that's just me. --or just the vicodine...

I feel i have to say this. If a man breaks into my house i will passionately shoot him in the face. So under the right circumstances this doesn't have to be cold-blooded.

I do very much like the silhouettes though.
Title: Re: 100 theme challenge...joyous
Post by: bloodreaper on February 13, 2009, 11:13:00 AM
It's not that shooting is inherently a cold blooded way to kill someone, it's just that shooting someone at lose range, with such neutral body language, seems kind of cold.

If the shooter were leaning forward, he would seem more engaged with the events that he is causing and watching.

Also, his gaze is still locked on where the target's head was when he shot (it's hard to tell where he's looking in silhouette, but it can't be below much his muzzle. ), which gives the impression that the shooter doesn't care about the fate of the victim as much as simply getting the job done. He should be watching his victim fall down and die, either with glee or horrified guilt.

It's just minor things, but together they project a kind of "Sorry, Luigi. Whacking you just good business." sort of vibe.

On a side note..I noticed I haven't put up Through the Fire (http://superscoobygirl.deviantart.com/art/89-Through-the-Fire-108022985), Eyes (http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/6636/eyes.png), or Happiness (http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/3949/happiness.png).

Hm..currently working on:
Heaven. (have part of it sketched, having a bit of a "background block", though)
Mother Nature (giftart for a friend, so I'll have to talk to him about it, some more, before sketching)
Trouble Lurking (not yet sketched)
Words (not yet sketched. There's...a huge wall of text, and I can't think of what all there should be)

Hey..I just noticed, that I'm exactly halfway through! =D

Oooh...fire...

I like the way that picture came out...I'd sorta' like to see it without the watermark, but I can understand why it's there.

I can't really tell what's going on in Eyes, but the green chick looks pretty creepy, nonetheless.

Happiness...well, the structures look good, and the happiness expressions are good, but I really don't have anything to say about it.

Creepy is a good term.   :P

Happiness came out well.
I've one thing to mention; to the right of the veiwer, the girl's head looks a bit large for her body... or her arms and such too thin... and the hands look a bit off.
But it still looks very good.

I just out-right lost interest in this one. I've been loosing interest in a lot of my stuff, lately. Kind of been going through a.."Yarrrgh...I suck! What's the point? D:"..rut..of late.  >.>

Anywho. Sheah's an alien shapeshifter(fond of those, aren't I?)..and she doesn't usually have wings. She's the last of her species, and her homeland is, obviously, in ruin. They were wiped out by Zokar's army.

I absolutely love the shadows of the blowing sand on the pillars, and the sand mist itself. That's just too cool.

This is good work, and a very little bit more polishing would have made it even better.

Two quick examples:

You textured the sand with a noise filter right? Using a lower color saturation, or using a low tolerance re-color tool, would have reduced the impact of the tiny greenish specks in it. Loose desert sand is typically mixed to a very uniform color.

I'm not sure how the Add Noise filters work with your program, but hitting the white areas on the pillars (just the outside, doing the channels is probably unneccisary) with a less intense one, with a minimal color saturation, would probably have helped the pillars look stonier.

As is, it took me a moment to realize that that was a stone pillar, and not some strangely shaped, enormous piece of metal.

I've got mixed feelings about the shading on the character herself. It feels like she needs more highlights on her face, to pop out her muzzle and help us see her expression, but the lighting is so ambient, that I wouldn't be able to properly place those highlights myself, so I feel kind of rude, pointing it out.

Maybe that's just the way she looks in that light, and the composition is just going to have to suck it up, for the sake of lighting. Compromise happens.

I made the sand with paint daubs, grain, blur, and dust/scratches, for the most part.

Like I said..I completely lost interest in this one, and it went from being something I wanted to do, to something I had to finish. Maybe, one of these days, I'll re-make it..but for now, I think I'll just focus on getting this challenge, in general, finished.

Breaking the Rules (http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/1016/breakingtherulessmallw.png) is up..and I'll go ahead and slap a "violent and disturbing" label on it.

Probably mostly disturbing.

I guess I owe and explanation, on this one. Well...Jax (the guy in 88) was sentenced, by Zokar, to a lifetime of bounty hunting. Mostly taking care of poachers and black markets..that sort of stuff. However, he wasn't allowed to make contact with any friends or family; a rule he broke, when he met Nika. Needless to say, Zokar wasn't happy about this, and his personal rivalry with her mother, Sheah, only fueled his rage. Sheah's species are extremely powerful, and her & her two kids are the only ones left. Zokar knew he couldn't kill Nika, but he did not want a grandchild of Sheah in the world.

Nika, herself, doesn't die. She knows enough magic to quickly heal herself; but the whole event left a mental scar on Jax, and he avoids talking about this particular event.

Does it apply if the character isn't actually human? :U

It's actually coming from two bodies, so it's not all Nika's blood. Still, I guess it is a little much.

Also:
Dreams (http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/8982/dreamsqli.png) and Sorrow (http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/3582/sorrow.png) are both up.
Dreams was a giftart, for a friend. The guy is his character, the girl is Kitana.

Sorrow is a follow-up, to Breaking the Rules.

I have completed Insanity (http://superscoobygirl.deviantart.com/art/12-Insanity-130856715), much sooner than I thought I would. (granted it did still take a little over two weeks)

Everything that's going on, is based on a certain RP scene. It's best not to ask about the far left scene. When I say it's best not to ask..that means you're better off not knowing. :U Yeah. Friends' & cousin's characters are all mixed in here.  The reason I linked to my DA, was that that entire picture is too massive, for ImageShack..and if I made it smaller, you wouldn't have been able to see everything. If you aren't a child I'm certain there's less ... awkward things you could do with your time.

The older people get, the more protective they get of their personal space, and their dignity, two things that you cannot be concerned with, if you intend to enjoy a game of Twister.

I've heard of executives forcing their employees to play Twister, "to foster trust and friendship."

This is indicative of a lack of professionalism and common courtesy, that is simply appalling.

Holy monkey poo, I missed stuff. :U

Here. Have Innocence (http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/6756/shadowrealm.png).

Okay..so Tara is the great-granddaughter of Sheah. There's a realm, in which the souls of her species resides. They take on various forms, and all appear as gooey shadows. It's considered a safe realm, and all who enter it, are protected..even the half-breeds, like Tara.

On a random note, the quote on the first page is from Plumb's song, "Concrete".
"As I kneel, in santuary; crosses, all around to haunt me
Archetecture, so devine; bread, the body..blood, the wine"

He could even bury his treasure, and expect it to last.

"Believe it or not, Twinkies have an experation date; and pretty soon, life's little Twinkie gauge is gonna go empty."

..... I might be addicted, to Zombieland.

Update, to Deep in Thought! (http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/1081/52deepinthought.png)

I love Spider, so hard. Words cannot describe how hard I love Spider.

*edit*
Also re-did Horror. (http://superscoobygirl.deviantart.com/art/Demons-finished-160669215)
I still love Spider.

*EDIT AGAIN*
<font color=]CONTENTS OF LINK ARE VERY BLOODY</font>
Added Dying. (http://i43.tinypic.com/14tohg.png) It may be really dark, depending on your monitor. Vanessa(the dragon thing) is kinda supposed to blend in, but Fox is a lighter color.

I wouldn't personally call that "very bloody," but that's just me.

Still, awesome work.  Feel free to double post, so we know when new/updated stuff shows up.

"Very bloody" may not have been the right words. Violent, perhaps. Ugh...too high on meds, to think right now.

I just have a personal dislike, for posting, more than twice in a row. It makes me feel like I'm drawing all the attention, to myself.

Distribute warnings as you see fit; DW is just trying to say that it's okay, and he doesn't have a problem with it being here.

And don't worry to much about the double posting. I do it all the time, and art threads need the bumps, so people know there are new shineys to see.

Yeah. If anything, we're asking you to double-post, else we are uninformed. '=J
(Sorry... heh. It would be helpful. At least just in this forum.)

If I had tentacles, I would hang from the ceiling upside-down to think... XD
As-is, I might sometimes, anyway...   :P

Oooh... I like the shadow mass in the angry spider one, what with all the little monsters and claws stepping out of it.   ;D

For some reason...I thought I added the others, in. Oh, well.

I have also completed Hero (http://i42.tinypic.com/1zvvaq0.png), and Solitude (http://i41.tinypic.com/nn8lfl.png). (I lost interest, and never got around to shading this. pretend that flashlight is on.)

Debating on posting Drive here, or not. NAUGHTY LANGUAGE.

I know the boss would prefer to minimize the swearing in here, so we're going to need a judgment from him.

The only actual rule he's given that covers this is "My word is law."

MUCH needed update, to Introduction. (http://i50.tinypic.com/k18k28.png)

It felt so strange, drawing these two, before they became their present-day selves. Macabre is a mentally unstable serial killer....and Phantasma's dead. It was fun to work on, though.

So it doesn't work out, then?

Yeesh. If this is a MUCH needed update, then I need to get on the ball, with my thread.

It did...she just ended up dying, and he went crazy.

And...the original "Introduction" drawing was done three years ago, I think...and was really quite awful. Geez....have I really been working on this, that long?

WHOAH WHOAH WHAT WHOAH.

I MADE A NEW 100 THEME. Probably not a good representation of the theme, but I needed and excuse, to add Questioning. (http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/5916/questioning.png)

Sorry, Jake. You're stuck, with Sarah.
