How does putting off the 100 Theme Challenge for a bit to finish a piece for Halloween sound? ;D
I was thinking that we could put any Halloween bits we come up with under this topic, for '08.
Hey, more organized, right?
Also, it might kinda get the motivation going, with this set in advance, and it'll be fun to see everything we made up, put together.
So, if ya'll want to, here'tis. :)
(Happy Halloween, Mwahahahaha! [img]http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/ramjik.gif" alt=">:(" title=">:(" border="0"/> ) C'mmon, you knew it had to be put in here, somewhere. :P ;D )
-
Bweheheee....soooo may fun ideas for this. :3 I might start on a re-draw of an old Macabre bit, later. x3
-
Heh. :D
I was thinking of trying something with one of Dragyn's characters, myself...
They seem more suiting, somehow... XD
But I might put more in here, if I think of it.
We can do that, if we want. The more the better. ;D

It's the only panel I have done, thus far..'cause it's late. Doesn't seem very Halloween-ish now, does it? :3 I guess you'll just have to..WAIT AND SEE. Right now..I sleep. *wanders on off*
(yes..it's my avatar. x3)
-
Like, stop work on the 100 themes thing, and do something else?
I suppose it's cheating to try to count them twice like that....'
Alright, you talked me into it. Just so you know, the guys I'm GMing for this afternoon are going to have to hate you for this, since I'll be sketching instead of sleeping of preparing.
-
O.o
Heh. ;D
'Kay. We'll wait, Fox... ;D
(Looks nice. ;) I like the puffs of breath. )
And besides. That can be the... lighter/simple side of Halloween?... ':D
Meh. Knowing you that's just not happening. XD
Might as well start looking for an explosion, or something like that. :P
(More Thanksgiving, anyway.)
Heheh... :D
Well, I never said something about that... but it's up to you. ;D
GMing?
Not sleeping or preparing? Now that one sounds not so good. :P
Halloween's still a couple days off, I think you can relax... ;)
Also, this might spare my being hated by so many people I don't know... O.o :P ;D
-
Explosion? You act like you know me. =D
Hm..I haven't really had time to do another panel..as it's a huge file, and I'm missing Katarizo's update because of it. (well, that..and I'm spending Friday/Saturday with my mom, before her class reunion) I'll get to it before Halloween actually gets here....I hope. >.>
-
Hehehe.
Here I am, here to show ya'll up.
Okay, no, not really. I should've been scripting out the next PE, instead, I give you this:
This...is the Halloween picture for this year. I know I missed last year, but hey, other than that, I've managed to do it every year, might as well try to keep it up.
Oh. Lest I forget, thanks to Legion for the advice. You were right.
By the way, it's already on the site, since I find it easier to do it all at once, so I don't forget anything. Look in the P.E.E.P. (http://beastling.xepher.net/PE/extras.php) to see the link. It's there in 3 sizes.
On a semi-related note, I was turning off/toggling layers while making the little link-box icon you get on the extras page. I ended up with something I found a bit...disturbing. Things like that are better shared, so:
I also found this one interesting, though not quite so freaky, so I'll share it, too.
Enjoy!
I look forward to your work. I figured I may as well lead the charge, here, since I'd already started.
(Please proceed to critique my piece. That is, after all, the main reason I put it here...)
EDIT: Just noticed I hadn't actually responded to this one, yet.
Hmm...we'll see just where your Halloween thing goes. If yours does go to the lighter side, well...I'd frankly be a tad surprised.
Not that you've set a precedent or anything...
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Woah... the eyes are neat...
And the stitches look painful and make me feel itchy wherever he's go them... >.<
Hm... it's good. ;)
I'd make a suggestion, no matter...
His chest looks... flat... an then a bit more than "broad."
You adding more shading to his sides might help... ?
-
Hmm...good point.
He does look flat. I did a bit of shading, but it's not really enough.
There should be more shading to make him seem less wide, too, but I think I got distracted putting fire in the background.
Maybe I'll go back and fix it.
-
Heh! :D
The fire is really good. ;)
How'd you do that?...
Also, the hair turned out well.
:)
So is this a character, or just for fun?
What's the line on his right shoulder?
Oh... oops. I forgot to respond to Fox... >.<
Sorry.
Heh! :D
Oh, after however much time of conversing over a forum, perhaps just a bit. ;D
Well... 'lemme see... it's a week, now, 'till Halloween?
Huh. That's closer than I thought, for some reason... XD
-
Hmm...
This isn't a character, no. He does look pretty cool, so he might end up in some future project.
To make the fire: make a layer. Color that layer black. Put another layer on top of that. take an orange color, and pull the transparency down to 12 (for the color, not the layer.). Draw in some vaguely fire shaped lines, and be sure to go over them more towards the bottom, which increases the opacity. Repeat this with red-orange and yellow-orange. All of the colors should be in the same layer.
Next, go to the Effects Menu in Paint.Net. Select the blur effect known as Fragment. Set it to have about 25-30 fragments, and increase the distance 'till it looks right. (In this case, it was a pretty low number). Duplicate the layer that results, to increase the brightness.
Fire!
Note that if you don't have the "Fragment Blur" effect, you'll need to update Paint.Net to the newest version.
For anyone using the Gimp, Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop. or whatever, sorry--don't know how to work with those.
-
Heh. =J
Hm... I'm still working on mine... buy I have to replenish my stock in colored pencils... >.<
Meh. I'll get it figured out.
Just to note - you don't mind my using one your characters, do you, Dragyn?
-
Well, I wanted to have Katarizo up today..but my mom had some problems at the airport, and we were stuck there all day, yesterday. x_x So that will have to wait until Monday or just not update.
Point is..I have my picture done. It's kind of big, though. >.>
(http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/8379/arhalloweendx4.png)
Okay..so the only thing "Halloween" is the costume reference..but I couldn't resist having Charley be the one to put the smack-down on Raptor. x3
-
*Laugh!!!* ;D
Nice... XD
I've a few suggestion-type-things... mostly involving the disappearance of glasses, how narrow everything looks in the interesting perspective, there, perhaps from trying to fit everything in there (which otherwise was well done, nice wings)in the first panel, second slide and lastly her neck looks a bit long, or her shoulders too low, in the last panel, maybe a result of the turtleneck. You seem fond of turtlenecks in autumn apparel. =J
Overall that's not much considering how many images are in there, three to six images, one of which was only something you forgot. And it turned out really well. ;)
I liked the expressions. :D
Also, he's married?
-
Actually..I forgot both his glasses and some shading, in that first bit I posted. It was late...>.o
Charley always wear a turtleneck, & I seem to do fine one that..but that particular jacket that Sage is wearing throws me off. Every time. I could just not draw that kind of jacket, but hey..I could use the practice. In the last panel, she's supposed to have her hands behind her back..so that's why her shoulders are low. I guess I failed at that. The fact that I had to rush it didn't help, either.
And yes..in this particular time-frame, he & Sage are married.
....
The whole time I was doing this..that song Put a Banana in Your Ear was stuck in my head. >.>
-
*Snrk!* XD
It's well done. :)
Meh. There are always weird things to through people off. Like my inability to draw a guy's face... >.<
Funny how I have only ever heard that song mentioned, here... :P ;D
-
"Charley, you look quite down, with your big fat eye & your big fat frown...."
x3
Oh, what I wouldn't give to have posted something like that in OC Mayhem, back at RPU.
Also...I never commented on Dragyn's work. D: Shame on me. Now he'll never know how I thought it was awesome..and that second bit was so cool-looking, I had to save it....hm..wait..
-
Second bit?
Yours is...not quite what I expected, but amusing nonetheless. You seem to be good at keeping your characters recognizably similar throughout the whole thing, so that's good.
Overall, rather impressive, if not expected.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
People always say artists have silly conversations... I never gave it much thought 'till I joined this forum... ;D
But yes, now I'm curious 'bout the second bit.
The one that shows the red from the eye and the blood, with the black background?
That did look cool... ;D
I still have to work on mine... and fast... I'm leaving Thursday, at noon, to Boise.
It's so far away... O.O
(Seven hours, how we're going, anyway. That's even further than Portland. That's the furthest I'll've ever been from home, and so the longest I'll've ever been in a vehicle, other than the time I was about four, going to L.A. to sell Christmas trees. :P Meh. Maybe the people there would give candy to some teenage trick-or-treater going as an "undead X-C member..." that might make the bus ride and the silly racing bit more worth while... ;D )
Anyway... that was my odd way of warning ya'll it might be late, if I don't find time to finish and post it... I was hoping to have Friday, morning, and/or Thursday night, but oh well.
That okay?... ':D
('Tis a bad thing when the thread-maker is late in whatever they're doing in the thread... >.< )
-
Yeah, I was refering to the glowing, red one. :3
Well..since that comic took me longer than expected, I might not have my Macabre piece up in time. A recent sinus infection has halted it, as well. x_x Ah, well. Not like it'll matter, any. :3
And Faith..don't rush it. Just take your time. A couple days(or weeks, if it were my case. XD) late won't matter. ^_^
-
Heh. =J
Well, then it may be a weeked later, in that case.
Luckily ya'll don't seem to mind...
Meh. Yours looks fine, in exchange for the time taken. :)

http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/3738/reapermq8.png (http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/3738/reapermq8.png)
Granted there are many flaws..but still better than last year's Macabre-reaper.
-
I'm barely even started and you're turning in that?
If I ever have to be an anthropomorphic cat, I wanna be one like that.
He gets wings, and a cape, and a scythe, and glowing eyes and horns. Even the horns glow.
Plus, his posture clearly declares that gravity and balance are for wussy boys. This guy has no trouble at all holding up his enormous dragon wings.
-
Macabre doesn't believe in silly things like gravity. :3
As an extra bonus....here's my pumpkin:
Abel was the only thing to pop into my mind...and dang. I should've just done the Nerd Herd symbol. My arm is still sore. :<
-
Heh! :D
Hm... I'll be later than I thought, because I have no Interent at my house, anymore. J=
And I'm not responding to much because I'm on someone else's computer and am in a hurry.
But I [/i]can[/i] say that's really wesome. ;)
-
Abel!
A creepy, glowing, orange Abel, but Abel nonetheless.
I have yet to carve a pumpkin, let alone one so filled with awesome.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
(The bell just rang... >.<)
Abel?
I don't know anything about that, really.
I've carved pumpkins... but it was a while ago, and so, yeah, elementary school-time about creations... XP
But it does look really neat. ^_^
-
I'm having a hard time finishing this one.
The joke seemed so much funnier when I started, but now I'm only half done, and I doubt anyone will get it.
-
Heh.
I did the same sort of thing.
It doesn't seem so great, anymore, and I'm not feeling all that motivated, because of it. '=J
But if you would, I'd be happy to see it.
Here's a deal, heh. ;D
I'll finish mine if you finish yours. XD
That way, neither of us are the is the only one late with a picture we're totally skeptical about.
-
Gags always lose their humor, when you're the one drawing them out. It's perfectly natural for an artist to find their comical piece rather boring.
Rest assured, though, the reader is always sure to laugh.
-
What if, by the time I finish this thing, nobody remembers what those things are, or where they came from. I won't spoil it for you, since it's a visual gag, but just getting this joke gets less likely as time goes on, let alone finding it funny.
-
Meh.
Heh.
Ah well, you can post the reference with the image. Then, if we forgot it, 'twont really matter.
-
Oo... more double posting. Uh-oh.
Well... it wasn't too late... only the day of Christmas Eve... ':D
Meh.
The color in this thing kinda dulled. Again.
Oh, and, yeah, sorry Dragyn... I, er, know that I got Chad wrong. XD
-
Aw...well, I think it looks great! Definitely worth the wait. ;3
-
Heh.
Sorry, I know I'm probably irritating you... >.<
It's just, well, there's always something wrong with the things I draw...
Meh.
I'll retry shutting up about it...
Heh. If I were Chad, I think I might consider doing that for Halloween, though. XD
Skip the trick-or-treating and get much more candy for it... ;D
(Nah, not really. But it might be fun... :D )
Well, that's good.
I kept on losing the thing... XD
-
I think I'll do that, next year. x3 I got a whole book full of Marvel characters to dress up as..so that'll be fun.
You know....most really good artists out there are very critical of their work. ; ) It's just a sign that you're a good artist, and humble about it. Even if you don't know it. x3
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Great... send us pictures. XD ;D
Hm...
Well... thank you... though... I'm sorry I don't know really how to accept a compliment... ':)
-
Heh!
While I can't personally see Chad doing that, the concept is still amusing.
How did you "get him wrong" anyway? He looks about right to me. (Though, I'm not sure how he fits in the pumpkin...)
-
*Snrk*
I haven't seen Chad doing much. But I did see that one image bit about him crossing out, "Beastling" and putting in, "Chad" and then putting the tree on fire in the Christmas bit. :P ;D
Also, I'd yet to try him.
So, I figured if there was someone to do that with... *Shrug* :)
Well, I'm not sure I got everything right, like with the hair, the forehead, the back of the head, the paws and the eye...
But... you think it's all right? Well, then, that's good... '=J
Yeah, I thought about that, afterward... :P
Maybe he's really scrunched up in there. Maybe it's all a part of the illusion of security. XD
*'Nother shrug*
