Here's the deal:
Every time you get a new avitar, post a heads up here and mention what your new avitar is supposed to be.
This serves a dual purpose of drawing attention to your work, and helping people keep track of who had what avitar, and when.
My new avitar is an animated .gif that cycles through three differnt symbols. Two of them are Jolly Roger (one a sci-fi variant), one is a black dragon, on a yellow and red diamond, and one is a three pointed star thingy on a green backround.
-
Heh. ;D
I was just thinking... mine I've had since I first got on, and is, what, three years old now? Well, here's a bit that's supposed to have a rose and... I'unno, sparkly things.
One very irritating thing about making this sort of stuff on Windows Paint is that I have to do the gradient and shading bits all by hand, so I look at what I did in the corners, for example, and know that anyone with a different program can do that in a couple of seconds, and it kinda irks me. :P
But oh well, it was fun. :D
A sci-fi variant?...
-
I like MSPaint. :< Honestly..it takes me longer to work in Photoshop than in Paint. x3
Also..I can't see your avatar, Faith. I'm guessing it might be Photobucket's fault? You might wanna try ImageShack.us. Sometimes it acts up, though..but not nearly as bad as Photobucket. ('course..I dislike both at times..which is why I made a secret page on my website for stuff like that)
Anywho. I was eager to finish that last Theme so I could use Hatchet for my avatar, now. :B
-
My former avatar was a changing image of Beastling, Demon, Kheros, and the Barbed-wire demon, Rekkon, who I doubt will actually appear in PE.
My new (current) avatar is the Dark Lord of Chocolate, who I drew in Paint.Net on the college campus in about a half hour, then went ahead and turned him into a "why I like layers" rant, which I'll link to elsewhere in here.
-
Heh. ;D
@ Fox: I'unno. I don't like it as much. I've made some things on it... but don't like the way they look, so much. I really like certain things about Paint.Net, and want to use it, more. *Shrugs.*
Like... I don't like the lines Windows Paint makes... they're not faded, and they don't have transparency, and the pixilated appearance bothers me, so I got through hand fade it by hand, 'cuz I'm that strange. :P
@ Dragyn: Heh.
Yours was almost as old as mine was... ;D
Oh? Heh. I'm interested...
And wonder where The Dark Lord of Chocolate came from.
?
-
I use it mostly for sketching, but it's my primary tool for doing things such as emoticons & avatars.
......
I change my avatar too much. >.o Hey..can this go for siggies, too? 'Cause I changed my signature..and I'll likely get some more of these things. =3 The only thing I know about these are..more clicks = more cuteness.
-
What is it supposed to be?...
-
The avatar is a varactyl, a creature from Star Wars ep III.
The things on my signature are...um..*looks it up*..Varanius(green one) and Chimaera. When you click on them, you can "feed" them. They'll hatch when their level reaches a certain point.
-
Really? Neat... how/why?
How much would it take for them to hatch?
-
Not sure why..but they are cute once they hatch. :3 Not sure how high they need to be to hatch..but when you click it, it has an option of various foods to give 'em..and that's how they grow. x3
-
Faith: I don't see the avi in question.
Dragyn: I fear no chocolate! Let them come! Moria will be ours again!
Fox: I'd have never guessed varactyl; I just figured it was some unusual sort of dragon or gryphon.
Maybe it's just my Dwarf Fortress strained eyes, but the fill artifacts are kind of painful.
EDIT: Having seen the larger picture in the other thread I now know that these are, in fact, resizing artifacts and the coloring was appearently done with a brush in several coats (but not of course in separate layers).I blame the ASCII art.
I have left the original post intact, so as to facilitate your ridiculing me. Never Say I never gave you anything.
You know, if you used Photoshop layers, and a magic wand select to carry the outlines between layers, those would be a lot easier to clean up, but you could still use pour fill for most of your coloring.
That's why I like layers. I hate those bloody fill artifacts. I just hate 'em!
We will, eventually, stop preaching the gospel of layers at you, if you ask. Maybe.
Self: You didn't actually think this thread would stay small enough to serve as a funtional archive did you? You poor, deluded fool.
-
No idea who that last bit was directed at, but considering you're going back to layers..I'd assume it was me. *shrug*
Anywho. I'm really just now getting the hang of Nexus..so I haven't really practiced much with other creatures. That and I had no reference. >.< (unless you were referring to his color..which I doubt....) His legs aren't really very lizard-like, either..but ah well. I guess it's time to start doing some sketches..that seems to help.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
No, it was him. =J
I know... I can't get Photobucket to work... >.<
Should've asked Dragyn while he was on. :P
Oh well, here's the picture:
-
There. You didn't have the URL listed in the right box in your profile page.
I fixed it for you. I can't do anything about the minor resizing, 'cuz this forum only allows avatars up to 100 x 100, and yours is 110 x 106, full size.
-
*Shurgs*
Didn't think about that. It looked about the right size, though. :P :)
Just the little sparkly things are a bit off, really.
Thanks, Dragyn. ^_^
-
It does look like it might have pixilated a bit, but it looks fine anyway.
I'm impressed anyway.
-
I have a shiny new animated avatar. :B I wish I had the patience to clean it up & color it..but meh. The actual file is way too big to post here, but from what you can see on the 100x50 pixel version of it, any suggestions on wing movement?
-
It looks to my eye, that his his wings sweep foward on the downstroke, and backward on the upstroke.
Isn't that backwards?
-
Yeah... I really don't like how pixilated it looks in areas... like the top of the bud, in particular... and those tiny sparkly things don't look very well accustomed to that size... there were other ones that were a darker shade and made it look more... well, subtle. Also, you can't see the detail on the thorns. I made them tipped sorta reddish-brown...
Ah well. What does it matter that it looks better in Paint, I guess. It's here now.
Heh...
The first down-swoop of the wings makes them look too frail, and kinda limp... then its somewhat odd and sharp in a sort of unnatural way... at the shoulders and the curve of the wing...
But that last may be from the resizing.
-
Yeah..it's the re-sizing. Being the species of dragon he is, he doesn't actually have bones in his wings. So that might be why they look "frail".
I really need to do a lot more studying on wing movements, but meh. I had no internet at the time I did this, thus no easy accsess to bird videos.
-
Heh. ;D
Um... no bones?..
That explains some things.
How does that work/what kind of dragon is it?
-
It's material similar the that of cartilage, but slightly more flexible. Argon is a Reptian dragon. (It's a planet I made up when I was like...8. The name stuck..so don't ask. D< ) His mother was a mortal dragon, and his father is a Spirit dragon. Both of very high ranks.
-
(http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p292/Faith39_2006/DragonAvatarb1.jpg)
Eh. Why not?
Seriously, though; must something always damage everything I make?
Look at how pixilated and blotchy the little monster lookes! O.o
It appears fine in Windows Paint; smoother, better color and proper shading... but when I transfer it to Photobucket? No.
I mean... just looking at how blotchy the nose on that thing is makes me flinch a little.
Why would it do that, anyway? Would you guess that it's my computer or Photobucket?
But, yeah, after ranting about that, for a bit...
I figured, well, nobody put anything in here, for a while, and I needed an avatar, anyway. Not that the whole, "This image has been moved or deleted - Photobucket." wasn't great or anything.
-
You do seem to have things get moved around a lot by Photobucket...
-
.jpeg format tends to do that.
'Tis why I prefer to save files, espcecially scanned ones, as .png.
-
Yup, png and bmp are lossless, and don't get as pixelated.
Note that Photobucket and most similar sites tend to compress files more than they already are, which tends to be a lossy process. I don't think the effect would be as big on png and bmp, though.
-
Hm...
See, I have no idea as to how any of these things work. XP
How do you guys figure that stuff out, anyway? O.o
-
I work with the stuff regularly, so I've made a point of looking it up.
Also, this stuff gets discussed on the Xepher.Net forums pretty frequently (as well as most any major webcomic's forum), so I've seen several different people's opinions.
-
Heh. :)
Well, I guess it's lucky for me, 'cuz if I don't know, then I get to just ask ya'll. XD
(Hope that doesn't bother you, though... heh. ':D )
-
.PNG takes a heck of a lot longer to load, but it's easier for me, if I want to go back and edit something. You don't have those annoying, grainy pixels. >.<
....
I finally changed mine. D: I think that Raptor/Sage one was the longest I've ever kept one....heh.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
They were pretty neat... ;D
Heh. This'ns neat, too, though. :)
-
Here we go with the weekly rotating, again!
Apparently, Bender likes turtles. Who'da thought somebody like Bender could make me go "Aawwwww!" D:
(http://img71.imageshack.us/img71/1817/benderturtleut8.th.png) (http://img71.imageshack.us/my.php?image=benderturtleut8.png)
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Hm...
You should post them, with your comments, here... so they can be seen, later, and people will have clue for the cause of what's being said. XD
I think that was part of this topic's purpose, anyway. To sort of keep them available, and kinda organized, where they can be recalled. I can't say that for certain, but that's what I thougth it was for.
-
The functions of this thread are multiple, but primarily twofold.
First, a lot of threads were being derailed by comments about avatar changes.
Second, even if the thread eventually got back on topic, it very shortly became nonsense since the avatars in question would get changed. this left anyone trying to read through a thread after the fact, completely confused, and with no means to find out what the avatar in question actually looked like. That's why you're supposed to post a brief description (or even a permanent link) here, even though people can see your avatar next to the post, whne you first make it.
-
Heh... I should go back and fix all of my old images... XD XP
I tried to organize my Photobucket account, and, as a result... :P
Hm... the little critters are so close to hatching but nobody's been feeding them.
...
*Feed, feed, feed, feed.*
Hah.
Yeah...
Oops. XD
Then 'twas a good thing you put this here. I tend to derail those conversations, actually... ... ... :P
-
I tend to avoid posting my art in any topic other than..well..my art topic. Seeing as this is really a different case, though...*edits post*
Mm...loved that episdoe. :3
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
... I just realized the bit under avatar... XD
"I like to microwave things that smell bad?" :P
-
It was from a Dilbert comic, in which Wally was about to microwave...a fish..
I love my shower spider so much, I had to make a cartoon version of it. <3
-
Thanks.
Now I have to keep a flyswatter hanging on my shower head.
-
The entire picture would cause you to keep a blowtorch, then.
Mm....I need to get a good, macro shot of Shower-Spider....if only to add to the creepy factor. :3
-
The blowtorch is a sub-optimal weapon in those quarters. There's too much water to ignite it reliably.
The flyswatter is enough. I just need something to keep the bug guts off my hands.
-
I can't see it here...
-
(http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/3183/watf.png)
Mostly because I know somebody will ask.
It was a scene from possibly the best IM role play ever.
Wiff: Enigma: *vwips back* quick! grab my hat! *poses*
Ew, what's that smell?: Devin: .....*cautiously pokes hat*
Wiff: *flies off on a rainbow with devin trailing on his hat*
-
Nice.
Psychedelic, but nice.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
I bet you were thinking it would be me... :P
Okay, maybe not, but I would've, so thanks for the explanation in advance. ;D
Neat, all the same. :)
Hm...
I need to try to make an avatar with Paint.Net. That would probably be fun. But first I need to work on that 100 Theme Challenge. :P
-
Heh..yeah. You were actually the one I had in mind. :3
The RP has since been replaced with an even better one. Those two merged into one horrible abomination, known as "Devinigma". 8D (when I finish it, though..I'll probably have to erase Devin's dialogue, or replace it, if I post the picture here..^^; )
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
People know me, yay!
Wait, is that good thing...? :P
Gotta' wonder what that must look like... XD
-
Of course it's a good thing. 8D
Hm..*posts it*
As a side note...I probably change my avatar more than anybody else..anywhere..ever..
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Maybe. But that's okay. Veriety is fun. ;D
-
After having had the DLoC for over a year, I've finally changed my avatar:
I cut this from the '09 Halloween bonus comic I made for PE. It just seemed like the thing to do.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
That was over a year old already?
Wow... XD
-
wow, indeed. doesn't seem like it. dang, time seems to fly by fast, these days.
... I need a less depressing avatar..
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Yeah.
The days are long, but the years pass quickly.
I need a new avatar, too.
Mine seems to be getting a bit, well, dull... :P ;D
-
September of '08...just a bit over a year ago, yeah.
Where the time goes, I'm not really certain.
-
From where I sit, Faith's Avi says: "This image has been moved or deleted."
That isn't so much dull as ... absent.
-
Nov 3, 2009, 2:08am (http:///index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=drawings&thread=128&post=7547), <font color="dd00bb">Dragyn</font> (http:///index.cgi?action=viewprofile&user=admin) wrote:Where the time goes, I'm not really certain.
I think it hides out, in my closet.
And yes..it has been removed, for quite some time. In fact, we've seen the Photobucket error so often, I've actually begun to think of that, as an actual avatar. :U
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
In your closet? That's great. XD
Yeah...
It's still hanging around, somewhere... :P
I'll just make it a new one, sometime. ;D
-
You do that...
...then we can all take bets as to how long it goes before it, too, becomes "this photo has been moved or deleted"...
-
*Laugh!!!* XD
Hey, now. :P
Meh.
No promises.
It'll probably be a bit before I get to fixing that, anyway. ::)
-
I'll organize the pool, as opposed to participating.
The person closest to the time, from when the avi is posted in this thread takes the pot, minus holding and organizers fees.
In the event of a tie, the winnings will be split equally.
First com first served. Place your bets!
-
*Laugh!!!* XD
You have such faith in me... :P
I'm working on it!
I just have Windows Paint on the computer I'm using, though, which I realized last night... :P
Meh.
I'll get working on it. XD
-
I don't suppose you could drop us a link to the original, in order to dilute your act of plagiarism a bit?
-
Hm...
Or I could just delete it.
Yeah, I've been thinking about doing that, for a while, anyway. Ever since I got some sleep in me, after posting that. I thought it might not be so bad if I said it wasn't my idea, but was a stupid thing to do, all in all.
I would put a link in here, now, anyway, but it was lost. I had drawn it before I had decided to put it here and never kept the location of the picture.
I am sorry...
I didn't mean any offense...
-
I was just yanking your chain. I doubt that your derivative avatar is going to hurt anyone.
I just wanted a link to the source.
-
Er... it was some tattoo...?
Heh.
It was a stupid idea, anyway. :P
Sorry, it's hard for me to pick up humor in text. ::)
I was convinced you were irritated. XD
(Honestly, it probably doesn't help that everyone wasn't commenting until that point and I was certain that the reason why was not that they had nothing to say so much as they were all unhappy with me. XP)
Maybe I'm just paranoid. ;D
*Relief*
-
Yes.
-
Heh.
That's good to know. :P
Hm...
So I'll probably make a new one this weekend.
No actual betting though, okay? XD
-
How in the world am I going to hold a cash pool over the internet?
Nobody is going to mail me twenty dollars just to bet on your avatar.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
I suppose. :P
...
So wait, does that mean you would if it weren't over the Internet? XD
-
I'm sure one could do it, via PayPal. ;]
Ugh..I've just been lurking, lately.
-
*Laugh!!!* XD
Oh, great. :P
You're giving him ideas!!!
-
Behold! the Long absent elder has returned! i've got roaming internet now which makes my return posible. been in my travels far and wide so long, i'd actually forgotten what my own avatar was. lol. had to go to my own profile to look it up. it's a native american shaman, in case you were wondering. i was going for that wisened aproach. lol. we'll see if i hit it or not.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
My avatar is being delayed due to technical difficulties... (my scanner should work... eventually... XD )
Ah, well.
Nice to have you around, again. ;D
Where have your travels been having you at, recently?
-
Welcome back, Villageelder! It is truly nice to see you around here, again.
Not to be an echo of Faith, but where have your travels taken you, recently?
And hello again to Lurker Fox, as well.
EDIT: As an aside, it'd be nice if you added a permalink to your avatar, for future reference.
