Title: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith

Don't expect me to be as frequent in adding new images as Fox is...

o=

Awesome. =3 By the looks of it..your scanner works better than mine does. Mine just likes to mock me..and pick up every single little flaw. ;_; (and turn orange into pink......PINK..)

Looking forward to more from ya'. 8D

My scanner is presently in a nonexistant state, which is to say, I don't have one.

Purple and turquoise, huh?  Interesting color scheme.  I may have to steal it for something, sometime.

Impressive work.  I'd sorta' like to see it in a higher resolution, but hey, I'm selfish like that.
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Faith on September 29, 2008, 07:01:00 PM
Heh...

I still say it looks better in reality... it's very... gritty... >.<
But oh well. I guess that works.
(I still want to figure out how to incorporate the use of the scanners at school... >.< )

I'd've put more things into the teardrop, in a slightly more sensible way... but my colored pencils were dull, and I didn't have the means to sharpen them, or the patience to wait and finish it later.   ::)

In a higher resolution... how would I do that?

If I could, I'd do what you did with the Sleepy Beastling, when you helped me scan it on and the like. But I don't know how, on Paint. Net...
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Dragyn on September 30, 2008, 07:28:00 AM
Well, what resolution you can scan in at depends on the scanner more than the program you edit it in...

*Shrugs*
Yeah.

Hm... anyone have any suggestions for the next'n?   ;D

Let's see horror.

I want to see how you approach that.
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Faith on October 01, 2008, 09:38:00 AM
Huh... okay, sure.
Afterwards, you tell me what you expected.   ;D

Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Dragyn on October 01, 2008, 03:13:00 PM
Since Blood beat me to it, yes, do "Horror" first.

Then I wanna' see how you handle "Kick in the Head," 'cuz violence is something I've not seen you try...
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Fox on October 01, 2008, 03:33:00 PM
Horror! .... Just..'cause they said it. =D

I've yet to come up with something for "Kick in the Head"...so good luck with that'n. XP
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Faith on October 01, 2008, 06:48:00 PM
*Laugh!!!*   :D

Now who said it would be violence?   :P
Too literal.   ;D
And that's because I'm no good at it. XD
But perhaps I'll humor ya'll, just to see...

Heh. I've already started Horror...
But I  rather wonder why you two both want to see me try horror... 'nother thing you don't tend to see from my drawings?
I'd disagree, but something on purpose might be a bit out of the ordinary...

Will you tell me what you're expecting, too?
Admittedly, I'm quite curious.

For me, it's not so much thinking up something for it... that's the fun part... aside from making it...
It's figuring out which one to draw.   ::)

I was about to ask you, Fox... if that guy was twirling around a giant banana... and then I saw...
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: bloodreaper on October 02, 2008, 04:53:00 PM
You hit the nail on the head, Faith.

We haven't seen horror from you, and the point of the challenge is to stretch you in new directions.
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Faith on October 03, 2008, 08:36:00 AM
Heh.

Well, I'll be trying it out, now. Not done, yet; haven't found a lot of time... but I'll be working on it. Warning, it might be a bit odd.

Aw, cute little egglings... ^_^
(I know, I know, "How can they be cute?" They just are.)
Do you want to/already know what your monster eggs with hatch out to be?
Or rather, the possibilities. It changes depending on the feeding, still. So the surprise won't be ruined.   ;D
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Fox on October 03, 2008, 09:49:00 AM
Haha..yes. It's a banana.
And yes. The eggs are cute. :3 I would like to know what species the dragon is, though. It'd be kinda weird to have Fafnir hatch, and turn out to be a penguin. ._.

Anywho. Looking forward to Horror. Er..I mean..the art. Not..real horror. XP
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Faith on October 03, 2008, 12:38:00 PM
*Laugh!!!*   :D

Hm... well, here's a link with the possible results of your little critters, under Frequently Asked Questions; Adoptable /// Pet Information.

Mine is a black dragon... and a little bear with antennae. The Prrb is actually pretty neat, with it's antennae. I may have to draw that, now.

Then Blood's Dimitri is another type of dragon, as is kinda obvious, seeing as it's a "landdrake." But it's mostly green. Or White and peach, if it's feed the "Lawful" food.

Ah..didn't see that thread. XP I just came across another one. >.>

I did notice I got Fafnir & Hera mixed up..so Fafnir's the Imp, and Hera's the Maiden. x_x I need to change their names, now. >.< Ah, well. It's still fun. :3 Steve is gonna look funny. She's gonna hatch as a little computer-chip-looking-thing. x3

I didn't have to do it...

Any ETA on the next piece, Faith?
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Faith on October 04, 2008, 01:25:00 PM
ETA?
I guess that's... something on how it's doing...

Well, I've been messing with it some, with colored pencils... it's getting there, I guess. Some spots are really bothering me, 'cuz they're not turning out...   :P
Heh... I'm not very good at horror... XD
Too fakey.   :P

Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Fox on October 04, 2008, 02:46:00 PM
Horror is my favorite thing to draw. Or humor. Or humorous horror! 8D

Well..take your time. 'Tis best not to rush things like that. :3
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Faith on October 04, 2008, 05:56:00 PM
Heh... horror and humor are the things I'm absolutely terrible at... XD

But, yeah. Still working on it.
I think I'll get pretty close, a least, to finishing it at church, tomorrow...
No promises... >.<

Oh... well... probably tomorrow... I didn't get as much time Sunday as I'd expected. But that was okay.   :)
Now I'll just try to finish it tomorrow... as is... I've homework and sleep to attend to... ... ...
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: bloodreaper on October 06, 2008, 10:33:00 PM
It get's done when it gets done.

Maybe I should start one of these things, as a way to get inspired. I haven't exactly been turning them out myself.
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Faith on October 07, 2008, 07:15:00 PM
Well, Horror's (http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p292/Faith39_2006/100%20Theme%20Challange/Horror_.jpg) done.
Weird-looking, but done.

But... when I put it on Photobucket... ... ... it kills it.
Um... help?

Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Dragyn on October 08, 2008, 05:35:00 AM
I think to be of any help, I'd need a bit more information than "kills it."

Does Photobucket have a file size limit?  That could wreck the quality if it's got auto-compression...
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Faith on October 08, 2008, 07:29:00 PM
I... don't know...
But then I was trying to reload it into my account, again, and I haven't been able to get it on, at all. I think I was doing too many things at once... but now that I've gotten around to it, I have to get off.   :P

Hm... maybe tomorrow...
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Faith on October 09, 2008, 09:44:00 PM
*Sorry for double posting - a thing to help people notice, is all.

Hah! I figured Photobucket out.   ;D

Warning[/u]
Looks very frightening, and not in a good way.
Read below to get better description.

I finally did it. And I have made a great example of how bad I am a horror.   :P
Oh, and I kinda want to smash the scanner to bits. It didn't look near that gray... honest, the inside of the wing was actually red!   ::)
The closest to the actual color is where the crease is... though it's not quite right.
And, yeah, I did a bit on the computer. The background made it look so gray... >.<
The black from my colored pencil just didn't turn out.

Over all, I think I want to retry this one, if I ever find the time, over Paint.
It just looks bad... and would be better if it looked... cleaner... more distinct...

Anyway...
I am aware of a list of flaws, such as the lighting, how the reflection doesn't line up (might not really have to, though...) the person doesn't look like they actually smashed the glass, so much... (maybe a bit of blood would've made sense... some pieces having fallen...) how part of the wing isn't prominent enough, some of the excessive black makes it kinda... lose substance... and the light should reflect in the cracks on the mirror (yeah, that's what it was supposed to be) and then the reflection should be kinda scattered in the broken bits, et cetera et cetera...
However, if you've anything to add, maybe I didn't think about it. 'D like to hear it.

Some things are supposed to be weird. Like the partially transparent wings and the appearance that the girl has no legs.
But, yeah. It's just weird. I can't say it much more than that.
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Fox on October 10, 2008, 11:35:00 AM
You know..you need to work on your self-esteem, art-wise. I never took any art classes..so my low self-esteem is justifiable. :3

Don't bother fretting over little flaws. The picture itself is amazing, to me. If the scanner messed it up, I'd like to see it in person. Because..wow. It must be awesome.
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Faith on October 10, 2008, 01:08:00 PM
Hm... everyone tells me that...

*Shrugs*
Your art is good. And art classes don't really make such a dramatic difference. (Not the ones in my public school, anyway...)
You don't need any, you just ought to have the practice that they offer, which is available without, so long as you've the motivation. That's really what art classes are, in my opinion. Sometimes the tutor will help you see something more quickly, by pointing it out to you. But peers can do the same thing. That's what we get here.   ;D
Classes mostly help you think to do different things, so then you try them and gain what the experience teaches, just the things that come with practice. '=J
At least that's what I've observed...

*Shrugs*
Colors just seemed less gray and pixilated, more vibrant. Some spots on the wings were darker. Actually, they were blackish-purple, where there weren't stripes. But that doesn't really show. The ligthing of the background, say, in the mirror, is a bit different. More natural. And the person's hair looks slightly different. The partial waviness or whatever didn't really show, as much, for some reason. Things looked a bit clearer, mostly the reflection.

Hm... the word hour should not have been there...
*Edits*

Most of the flaws bother me, because... it's not... right... 'cuz it's not like it would be if it were real.
I don't know. I'm just obsessive like that, sometimes. The tiniest flaws bother me, when I draw something. >.<
Maybe I have a slight case of OCD.   :P
Seriously, I only have so many inexplicable irritants, and slightly disorganized or flawed things are often the majority of my peeves... utter chaos is better. XD

Well I'm scared.

I'm scared of her, and I'm scared for her.

It really reminds me of something I saw in a Darkstalkers game, but somehow, I still doubt you ever played that one. --just wouldn't be in character for you, and I doubt either of us showed it to you.

There were a lot of extras in that game. The sort of extras you discovered, and then promptly stopped loaning the game out.
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Faith on October 14, 2008, 08:06:00 PM
A Darkstalkers game?...
Not familiar. Would you be willing to elaborate?
(Not a clue on what you mean by extras...?)

Huh... so... is that a good thing, or a bad thing?
And so did the horror-thing turn out?

Well, I thank ya'll for commenting.
I have to rush this, though... (time. ':D )

Before I head off, I think I'll ask for suggestion on the "Kick in the Head."
Do you suggest that I do provide some violence, or physical injury, to maybe learn a bit more, by doing it?
I don't think I have done much, in that sense... ... ...
Though if I do decide to use violence, (that sounds humerous, to me...) I think I've an idea.
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Dragyn on October 15, 2008, 05:14:00 AM
Do as you will.  That is, after all, part of the point.
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: bloodreaper on October 15, 2008, 05:29:00 AM
A creative interpretation of "Kick In The Head" might be both educational for you, and interesting for us, but if nothing else comes to you, an actual kick in the head might be a good thing for you to draw.

Nothing like to two characters interacting in a dynamic fashion to stretch your art skills.

====

Darkstalkers is a Capcom VS fighter, similar to their more famous Street Fighter series. Darkstalkers is less popular/well known because it contains some risque elements and a lot of innuendo puns.

In the PSP version, competing certain optional objectives unlocks concept art in the gallery.

Some of this art is made of pure Awesome.

Some of it contains Disturbing.

The Pic in question was of a girl named Lilith huddling next to a mirror. In the mirror a different character appears, Morrigan the Succubus. Those looking in the background of the reflection can see what she's hiding from: a girl in a Red Hood, weilding a giant butcher knife.
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Faith on October 15, 2008, 09:51:00 AM
I have ideas for both... though violence thing is the one I'm not so experienced with...
Ah, well. I'll figure something out, I guess.

Huh. That sounds like an interesting bit.

Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Fox on October 16, 2008, 11:16:00 AM
I looked at Horror on my PSP, to see more details. It's not nearly as bad as you make it out to be. :3 (the scanner bit..I mean. XD)

As for Kick in the Head..I think I finally got an idea for that, as well. See? I inspired you..you inspired me...we're just all full of inspiration, here! =D
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: bloodreaper on October 16, 2008, 04:53:00 PM
Huzzah for inspiration.

Now, I've got to start one of these things, or I'm depriving everyone of doing my share of the inspiring.
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Faith on October 16, 2008, 08:13:00 PM

*Laugh!!!*   :D

I think it'd be great if everyone started one of these... XD
It wouldn't really matter, how regularly they added their works, it'd just be neat to see how everyone perceived things.
Also. It'd be pretty good for some more of that inspiration stuff.   ;D

How do you know what the scanner did to it, via PSP?... ... ...

Heh... I've a final idea... though it might be a little bit out there...
(I've just gotta' get to washing up my colored pencils, so I can use them again... XD )

Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith

I just copied mine from Fox's. I think that's how we'd get our own list... copy them, and clear them up so we can use 'em.
You could do that with this, that we're doing, or you could try the links for others Fox put up.
And you'd probably get some other options in search results.

(Sorry, realized that I hadn't responded to that...)

I need a goal, I guess.
I keep starting one sketch and hopping on to the next one.   :P

Draw a spaceship.

Human, alien, shuttle, starfighter, whatever. Anything goes, but deliver one spaceship of any description at your earliest convenience.

Heh!   :D

Okay. I'll try that, also.
But, all the same, to warn you...   :P
I'm not very familiar with the mechanics of these things. Anything I try to draw would probably crash as soon as it started, were it real, and it will completely defy physics. XD
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Fox on April 24, 2009, 09:53:00 AM
That's okay.

Everything I draw defies multiple laws. That's what makes fantasy/sci-fi great, though. It's not supposed to work, in reality! =U

In space, aerodynamics don't matter.

That's what makes it great.

Gravity has effects still, though they're considerably closer to negligible.

Drawing things in space is easy.  Drawing things in space that make sense...not so much.

Oh, wow. That is quite awesome, indeed. =U

Dang...I need to start back on this thing..

Okay, sorry to double-post...   :P

It was requested I draw this for someone, then someone suggested I put it here...  and so... here it is.

I've been beating my head against "Eyes" for over a weeks, and there's no way I'm going to be able to compete with that in the foreseeable future.

*Laugh!!!* ':D

I'm sure you can think of something... ':)

Heh...
At first I thought about dubbing it "Food..."   :P
I'd probably have to imply more toward the onlooker, though... like maybe an outreaching hand... XD
But it wouldn't've fit, by the time I was done.   ::)

Wow. That's...pretty groovy. I don't think I could ever have the patience, to pull off something realistic, like that..

That's okay. I don't think I could pull off more animated images, like yours. '=J
Also, mine take forever, so... XD

Grr...
Well, this scanner is granier...
Also, Photobucket destroys pictures.
It looks like she has a split lip! Where did that line even come from!?!
And it's all blurred and pixelated...   :P

Ah, well.
I'm sorry you heard that. I just had to get my rant out.

Hmm...

Odds are there're scanner settings for that thing you can change to reduce that, but since I don't know what scanner you've got, I can't be sure.

Nevertheless, it is indeed nifty.  I'm no good at the sort of detailing and time you put into these things, so it never fails to impress.

It's most likely the paper, you use. I find that, no matter how hard you try, to fill in every white space..the scanner always finds whatyou didn't/weren't able t fill in. I've gon through several scanners..and they all did the same thing. I just tend to overlook it. c:

Regardless, great picture, as usual. You never fail, to amaze me, in the art world. :3

....I really need to get back to work, on this thing...

Gee... er... thanks...?
(It's not that I don't appreciate the nice comments... but... how to react...?)

That may be. Maybe you'll have to help me with that, some day.   :P
If I don't get time to look into it, first... but... unlikely.   ::)

I just use printer paper. It's the most available. XD
Is there a kind better to use that isn't very spendy?

I found out it doesn't look quite so bad on the computers at school. I had to test it... because it only looked that bad after going through Photobucket...
I don't know why that is, though.
Does it look blurred and pixilated to you guys?
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith
Post by: Fox on January 06, 2010, 09:14:00 PM
Not really. Printer paper tends to turn out grainy, but I use it, too. I got a decent sketchbook, from Hasting's..but I don't remember how much it was. Probably $15-$20, since it -is- hardcover, and all. >___>

Photobucket might be compressing it, too much. If you have GIMP, maybe resize it there, first...or on the scanner's software, before you actually scan it.

It really doesn't look all that pixelated to me, at all.  If you zoomed in on it, on your computer, and it looked pixelated, try waiting for it to finish loading (esp. on slower connections), or try reloading the page.

It does look pretty grainy, but I'm pretty sure that's the paper's texture.  Even the light texturing on printer paper shows up really well on a scanner.

Meh.

I don't know what difference Photobucket made. *Shrug*
But apparently it doesn't do it on all browsers/computers...

It might be the paper. But... it's so weird... XD
Where it was perfectly dark on my drawing, in some places, it came out with white specs.   :P
It actually looked like I had made it by stippling. Which might have been okay, if I'd wanted it to. The gradient really helped with that. It made the white specks dim down and almost look normal again...   :)

Ah, well. It was still fun to draw.   ;D

Hm...
I'm still thinking through Kick in the Head, but... am still uncertain. My previous idea, I don't know that I like. So... XD
I may do some other things while I continue to think it over.
Does anyone mind much...?

Yeah, this thing looks all kinds of crazy-town hard-to-draw.

As somebody with joint issues in my hands, I look at something like this and all I can think is "OW OW! OW!"

Heh...

I'm sorry about your hands...
What exactly is wrong with them?
I know you get wrist pains and I heard you saying that might be from bokken fighting and sleeping on one a bit funny...?

Which do you think I should do, next...?

I ended up doing this one over at Virmir's forum.
So I figured, "Why not put it here...?"
Heh.
Besides, it fit a theme... XD

Deep In Thought (http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p292/Faith39_2006/100%20Theme%20Challange/InnerandOuterWorlds.jpg)

Well, last I saw, Photobucket murdered this, but ah well.
I used this in a final at school as a visual interpretation of the conflict between inner and outer worlds. I was going to do some sort of painting on a rock, but ran out of time, so I did this instead.   :P
Not a big deal, but someone should put something here again. XD

I actually have been...I just severely dislike double-posting, yet alone triple or more, so I've just been editing posts.

That said, I really like this piece. It's better than what I can do, with Photoshop. c: (assuming you used that other program, and not Photoshop)

Oh!
Okay. I'll go look there, now.   :)
(Sorry to encourage you to break your own code, but if you'd double-post once, there'd likely be no need for triple-posting, I think... heh. Just so that I don't miss out on what you post.   :)  )

Actually, to cure that for all...
Is it possible to notify the forum from the home page if the most recent activity in a thread was an edit?

Heh...
Thanks... ... ...
It was Paint.Net. I like playing with such things as eyes or general photos on there.   :)

Eh..for about 10 years, I've been around forums, where double-posting was frowned upon. Old habits really do die hard, I guess. I'll keep this in mind. :U

I really should give photo-manipulation a shot, sometime..
Title: Re: 100 Theme Challenge; Faith

In some places the procedure is to edit your post, then double post to bump. Once the thread has been bumped, you delete the empty post, so it doesn't clutter things.

I don't actually know if that would work here, but if you want to keep your thread tidy, it's worth a shot.

This is really only a problem on forums where people have huge sigs, animated avatars, or banner ads in their sigs. Nobody around here has any of those things. Nope.

Heh.   :)

It's a lot of fun, really. You get to work with more interesting textures and such, combining realistic images with each other or unrealistic things. I would put others on here, probably, but they usually are made of photos that contain other people, so...   :P

I don't think it is much of a problem here... but I think it is a rule that would change according to the forum, like Blood said.
I also think that the "bump" post coupled with an edit would be a good idea.
So whichever you choose.
