The comic mentioned is right here. (http://beastling.xepher.net/PE), by the way.
This board is for talking about Pending Else. It's a work in progress, so bear with me. Let me know what you think, what needs changed, or what I'm doing right. (*snerk*)
-
Well, I like it! :D "Course, you already knew that... ;D
-
Darn, I can't see the cast yet. Well, so far it looks interesting. Good coloring.
-
The cast and Extras pages don't exist yet. I just finally managed to get the main page to look good. (On FireFox, anyway. IE is still evil.)
By the way, if you have any suggestions for the layout, let me know. It's a definite work-in-progress.
-
The colors should go with the general mood of the... something. I... dunno.
-
Don't they already? I thought they did...
By the way, some people on the Xepher.net forum told me what's up with the layout. I'll be able to fix it later today, if all goes well. Yay!
-
Yay!
I thought they did, too... well - at least I thought so, from what I could guess. I don't really know what the "something" is other than what I could learn from what Dragyn's put up so far. As far as I could tell, though - there was no problem with the color scheme. I actually liked the way the colors went together with everything, but that's just me.
-
-IF- any of you check before I update it again, you may notice the Xepher.net newsbox at the bottom...I'm curious as to what you think of the colors I chose for that.
The next PE is actually sketched already (has been for over a month), but I haven't really had time to ink it...I'll try to do that soon.
Now you all know why I'm not setting an update schedule yet...
-
*Laugh!* :D
It definitely stands out. I think it's different and interesting and more people should make their sites different and interesting, 'cuz otherwise it's almost always all the same and nothing stands out.
Also, it's the same as the one on Beastling, except that everything that was white is now black and everything that was black is now white. ;D
-
Of course it's the same one...it's part of the same site.
All I can change is the colors, but I think I've managed to make them fit in pretty well.
-
Agreed!!! :D
Anyways, one thing I'd like to mention -- the grass looks much better, now! You probably already knew that, considering the fact that you're the one that had to make sure it got fixed, but I'm saying it anyway!
-
Yeah...I had to cheat, so to speak. The background is invisible, and the background grass is thicker, so that FF and IE both look alright, despite the offset.
I already knew, but it's still nice to know you noticed. :)
-
What is are FFs and IEs? Still not learning quick enough about the codes and abbrieviations...
And how is doing that cheating?
Anyways - took a little while to mention it, but - yeah, I noticed. :)
-
It's cheating because there are much more complex, though more widely accepted, ways of making it work.
FF= Firefox, IE=Internet Explorer
-
Oh - well, as long as it works and nobody is hurt or offended, I don't see why it'd be so bad. :)
-
what are you peoples talking about anyway!!!!i dont get it?!?!?
:-* AMY!!
-
We're talking about another site that Dragyn's working on. :)
There's a link to it on the first page of this conversation.
-
The only people who might be offended are Microsoft, 'cuz they want my money.
Click Here (http://beastling.xepher.net/PE/) to see the site, just for convenience. In my observations, I don't tend to know what's going on, either, and I run this place. :)
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Well, they get plenty of money. :P
-
That they do.
-
What are paladins? Apparently they're in your project, but I have no clue what they are.
-
Hmm...I didn't even see this question. Sorry.
A Paladin is sort of a "Holy Knight." They generally believe themselves to be servants of a particular deity, and tend to follow very strict rules and regulations, especially regarding moral issues.
-
Oh... that's interesting - I've never heard of those. It's okay, I've done that before! ;D
-
Is it just me, or did Kheros change colors?
In one picture he's not as blue as he is in the other.
-
Kheros is blue. The color looks different because I sorta' lost the pencil I used last time.
I like this one better, though. I think it'll fit in with everything else better this way.
-
That's good! :D
-
Yeah, it is. :)
-
I think he looks neat this color, too. ;)
Hey, if that one guy who's name I heard this morning has a name --- why did you put The Mysterious for a name?
I'm not allowed to know yet, am I?
-
Quote:I'm not allowed to know yet, am I?
Yeah, pretty much.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Does The Mysterious ever show his face?
-
See my previous reply. ;)
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
I should ask harder questions... :)
-
Only if you want to.
By the way: I've changed the page on PE. Page 2 is up!
I worked on the layout, as well. It doesn't really look any different, but it should be a lot easier for me from here on out.
-
That's great!I'll go check that out!
I saw some of that on Beastling's homepage; by the way - good luck!
I saw it! :D
I like it too, hehe. ;D
-
Glad to hear it.
-
Heheh. Oh MAN, that's funny. At the first page it's all serious, and then WHAM!
-
Yeah...that's sorta' the way that one will work from here on out. Pending Else will have a lot of more somber and serious themes to it, but I'm incapable of making anything too serious.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
It's funny - and sometimes stories have to do that, to stay interesting. :)
-
You may notice that Beastling has been a bit more serious of late...I'll try to change that, but it's the same thing going on there.
Speaking of...I'd best draw it.
Since originally I wasn't planning on starting PE until Beastling had at least 100 comics out, and preferably 150, I'd say I'm ahead of schedule...
-
Well - hope you can get it drawn out soon! ;)
How many do you have now?
Ah yes - 82.
Well, that's close to 100. :)
-
Close, but at the rate I'm going, it still might be awhile.
-
Well, it'll get there, eventually. ;)
-
Hah, meant to say this earlier[ I'm lazy] but seriousness is good too every once in a while, like to even it out.
-
Yeah, that's true. Seriousness also makes it easier to advance the plot...
I like the current avatar, by the way.
-
Yeah - most of the books I read have to have elements of both for me to really enjoy them. :)
That is a good avatar. And that reminds me, I still haven't changed mine, yet, like I've been wanting to... and I have Paint.net now - so what's stopping me! :D
Next day:
Turns out what's stopping me is the fact that I have no clue what I'm doing on Paint. net... ::) I find it to be rather different from the simple Windows Paint I've used for so long... :)
-
Meh. I stink at making avatars.
Dragyn- This one or the one before this one? I don't remember which one I had before. WAAAIT, i remember. The "psychotic" one, right?
-
Yep - that's the one indicated. ;D
I know, I'm not Dragyn - but I did know the answerer to your question!
You don't mind my answering that one - do you, Dragyn?
My current avatar is all pixilated, with the shading in solid lines that are way to easy to see. :P
But, now I'm trying Paint. net - It's awesome!
I think I'm getting the hang of it, for the most part. :D
Though, when I get my first avatar from it - be forewarned: It'll probably make no sense and appear a crazy mess or a distorted, blurry object.
-
You could try Gimp- Photoshop for the rest of us.
-
Gimp - photoshop? O.o
Not sure what you're talking about...
Is it just me, or have we strayed from topic, again?
-
Yeah, we've strayed, but no worries. I'll set it all back on track, now.
The Gimp and Photoshop are both basically the same as Paint.net. The real difference is that Photoshop costs several hundred dollars (unless you decide to break the law), and the Gimp is slightly harder to figure out (to me) than Paint.net. Both Paint.net and The Gimp are free, so it's up to you.
Anyway, as topic goes, We should probably start a new topic for further discussion on this.
Further commentary should have something to do with PE or be placed in a new topic. Feel free to make some!
-
Okay. ;)
How'd you get the background on the most recent update to look like that?
Will you use markers often in PE?
Why does The Mysterious have a star thing with him? Is it normally with him? Or just adding to the picture?
-
He always has the orb/sphere. There is a reason for this, but I don't think I'll tell it to you.
I will be doing a lot of work in PE with my Sharpies, yes. Using Sharpies gives it the dark feel I've been enjoying so much. Since the whole thing is going to be deliberately dark, I'll be using Sharpies an awful lot.
To look like what? The weird, twisty, spirally loopy thing? I made the background by putting it under the other frames (using layers) and just made it a "Gradient" in a circular pattern using blue and red, then I used a "polar inversion" distortion, and topped it off with a "twist" distortion.
-
Oh - okay.
I wondered. ;D
I'm going to see if I can do it, too. :D
-
Is the place he's at, a particular, certain place in the story - or is it simply that he needed to be somewhere, so you put him there?
-
He is on top of a certain hill, yes...though I can't think of many important things that happen on said hill...
-
Is there a map, of the places in Pending Else? A map, where everywhere the characters go and all the places that exist in that world are set out?
That'd be kinda neat, actually...
Anyways, whether it exists, but only in your mind, or not - I'm asking because, well, you have particular places in mind, where important things will happen, right? And I wondered if you had them drawn out on a kinda map. Would that make it easier, or only give you more work to do?
I think that would be neat...
Wow, that was repetitive...
-
I have drawn several maps of the various areas in Pending Else, as well as a few world maps, but they never look the same twice in a row.
I almost have it set in stone at this point, though.
-
Are you going to put it or them on the site, for people to see? :)
-
Maybe I'll put a finalized version up, but not until much later in the story...I tend to mark places you don't need to know about yet.
-
Oh - well, I look forward to seeing them. :)
Is there one map you keep, or more?
-
Many more than one.
-
Is it a very large place, for Pending Else?
-
Pending Else is, as I call it, the story of a planet.
I hope that answers your question.
-
Taking a nice good look at the character profiles for the first time here. Kheros seems pretty,eh, insane. And dead. Mysterious guy looks interesting too. Again you are a wiz at original characters.
-
Yeah, Kheros does look pretty wild in there, doesn't he?
I didn't actually plan on putting his in there 'till I introduced him in the comic, but it looked too empty with just one in there.
-
Well, I wouldn't exactly call most planets small... :P
Well, now it's not too empty. :)
Does Kheros usually have that hat? Or was that just an addition?
-
You'll see, now won't you?
Actually the hat is his hat, while he doesn't always have it, he usually does--even if you don't see it.
-
I'm guessing something happened to him in the past that made him like that, noticing the thumbnail thingy looks absolutely sad-like. I can't wait to find out about these guys.
-
Yeah - I'm interested too. :D
Where does it go? In his pocket? :-/
(I don't think that would be easy... fitting a hat that size in a pocket without it being visible.) :P
-
That, unlike the hat itself, I am not going to explain.
-
Okay - so it'll get explained in the comic, later on?
*Sigh* - I'll wait. ::)
Are you using a lot of races in PE?
(Not where people run around competitively - but the types of characters you use.)
-
Heh. That'll be explained soon.
I don't think there're even any racetracks in PE...not that I can think of, anyway.
-
I really don't know why there'd be a racetrack... ;D
Does The Mysterious have some little floating orb or something floating next to him most of the time?
-
Didn't you already ask that?
Deja vu...
Anyway, yeah. He pretty much always has that thing.
-
Yeah, kinda... only I'm asking about whether he has something floating nearby all the time. Last time I asked about the star, and you said something about the orb - which makes me wonder, are they the same thing? Does he have other things floating around, sometimes, or does the orb change shape?
I'm sorry, I'm kinda bad at getting what I mean across, sometimes... a lot of the time... most of the time. ::)
-
The Glowing object that he's got is the same one he's always got. It's not a star, just an orb.
-
So, that's the orb shining brightly next to him in his cast page?
-
Yup. That's the orb.
-
Oh... did I ever tell you how smart I am? :P ::)
I'm just briliance in the making! ;D
Look - I'm so smart, I just misspelled brilliance!!! :D
Wow I'm dumb. :P
(Back to topic... ;D )
Did you ever see a coat like the one on The Mysterious - or did you just think it up?
'Cuz I've never seen a coat like that. :)
-
All of the outfits are based loosely on the clothes I tend to wear...they just get a bit modified for whatever purpose I need for each outfit.
-
Really? Hmm...
Is there going to be a lot of different landscape and place-type in Pending Else? Like mountain ranges, and deserts?
-
That remains to be seen.
-
Oh - okay. :)
Are all the links along the top of the site going to lead to the same, or similar sites as the ones on Beastling - or are there going to be some different ones?
-
...
...
...
What?
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
I'm sorry - I'm trying to speak English, I really am! ;D
I mean, are the links along the top of the site for Pending Else(the tombe stone, the little guy with the weapon, the skeleton leaning on the sign, and the tree) going to lead to the same sites as the links on Beastling (Beastling, the symbol, Kheros, the close up of when Beastling got that chain from his father, the character mix-up guy, Demon, and the crystal from Ramjik's house) or will there be different sites about Pending else?
Also, will you put links there that are different from the ones on Beastling, too - or will they be the same as the ones on Beastling, only about Pending Else?
-
Go look at the Pending Else site. As evidenced by my most recent addition, they will be separate.
This is mostly because I want PE to have its own site, eventually, but also because I built the site an awful lot different. They'll lead to similar places, and I'll probably link the same things, but they won't ever actually be "the same page."
I hope that I answered your question somewhere in all of that.
By the way: the PEEP has updated! (See the main page of either site, Beastling or PE, to figure out what that means.)
-
PEEP? :-/
Let me go check that out in another window...
*Click - click, click --- click, click.... click....*
Cool!!! :D
How do you make things like that on the computer? :)
And I'm not saying that in any over-acting type of way, believe me - I only wish I understood how to make computerized/digitalized work... and I think it really is good! ;D
I like the sky in his eyes. :D
-
You noticed the sky? Impressive!
I just sketched it, scanned it in, and then used the sketch as a guideline for the drawing. Not exactly tracing, as I changed several things (not least of all being his proportions--the sketch was way off)
Color and shading was done via mouse-scribbles.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Neat!
Maybe I'll try something like that, someday... :D
I've said that about a lot of things, though... :P
I think it turned out really well. :D
So, he's in some sort of open-ceiling dungeon?
-
Open-ceiling? How do you figure?
The eyes, right?
-
Yup. :D
Is that a place that will show up later on in PE?
Will you put a link in Beastling to PE, with the link to the forum, thew extra pages, et cetera?
Would you be slightly annoyed if I found way to figure out character's names when you put them in images on the Internet?
I'm just gonna tell you how I found this one out by telling you about it in a PM.
(I just don't think you want every one to know how to find out, though many others are bound to know... at least the character has a cool name. :-/ ;) )
-
I don't mind, really. I think I probably know how you did it.
and besides that, it's probably my fault.
-
Heh - Okay. :D
Should I recognize the little guy with the weapon, walking along the top of screen - or no?
-
Recognize the what now?
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
The little guy at he top of the PE site?
With the, err... what do you call 'em? Um... pick ax?
No.
With the gray robe? The one you showed me the layers of, and stuff like that on Paint. net?
-
OH! The Extras Button guy? Yeah, he's a character, and a fairly important one, at that. That's all I'm gonna' say for now.
By the way, though--that's not him, that's just a statue of him. You'll see.
-
You tell me enough so that I'll know a little bit, but wont understand anything - which, ultimately, will drive me nuts until it happens.
I'll be really interested in it once it gets going. :P
Good for you. ;)
Anyways --- did you write this thing about your site I found in the Xepher - box, thing?
And where are these sunglasses?
A Great (Completely Free!) Host.
XEPHER.NET
Featured Site: Beastling
Beastling, A Dragon-Wolf, finds himself caught up in echoes of the past. When things go wrong, they go very wrong.
He wears his sunglasses at night.
It's all good... then it says something about sunglasses... I just don't understand the sunglasses...
-
You'll have to ask Xepher himself about the sunglasses. The part in italics (the "sunglasses" bit, in this case) Xepher adds. I wrote the rest of it, though.
I think Xepher just throws something random onto the end.
-
Strange, very strange....
I've never seen Beastling with sunglasses on, so I don't understand why that's the random thing he'd say....
How does the orb tell The Mysterious where to go?
The little arrow on it?
-
That's not an arrow, for one. I won't explain that, though.
And it's...complicated. Again, wait and see.
-
Okay. ;D
Isn't the orb used as the buttons that allows readers to go back a page, or forward one, or skip them all to start at the beginning or see the latest update?
The designs on them are used as arrows, right?
(Thats one reason I thought it might be an arrow... I don't know why; you did the same sort of thing on Beastling, so why not on PE? :) )
-
I use it as an arrow, yeah. :)
It isn't though. Just wanted to make sure that's clear.
-
Kay. :)
So - it's a design that looks like an arrow, and is used as an arrow elsewhere, but is a... umm.... thing, in the comic.
Clear?-
Enough?
-
Yeah. Let's just go with that.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
In PE, can you usually see planets and all that stuff in the sky? Or, just in that place?
Can you see them at day there, too?
-
Only at night, mostly. There are exceptions, though. (No, I won't elaborate)
And they're visible pretty much everywhere.
-
Oh - neat. ;D
How long were you thinking out PE and Beasting before you out them up on the Internet?
-
Beastling I started sketching about a week before I started drawing them, though a lot of the plot was around before that. After that, there were a couple years before I started uploading the comics themselves.
For PE, a lot of the characters and plot have been around since before I started Beastling, but I thought Beastling would be a lot better of a comic/story to start with, since it's a lot less confusing.
PE has all manner of twists and turns, and I want to do it right from the start, which is why it's not officially starting yet. (or anytime soon, with my update schedule so far) Sheesh, some of PE actually came about back in homeschool (before Jr. High), so a lot of it has been around for quite some time. (Most of the characters have been rebuilt time and again, but their personalities are mostly the same)
I find it funny that one of the longest-standing characters still has no name...not that you'll ever know who that is.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
What gave you the idea for Beastling and Pending Else, to start with?
Confusing can be fun... ;D
You're just saying that to tease me!!!
And it's working!!! :P
...
...never-ever? :-/
-
Nope. Never-ever. I'm evil like that.
Actually, you'll learn his name eventually, just not that he was the first.
The ideas? Hmm...I don't know, really.
-
Not even when it's all over?
Are there any trees in that area?
-
Trees in what area?
-
That field under the dark space sky. :)
You must think I'm very strange - asking a bunch of questions that don't have any apparent importance. ::)
-
Nah, questions are good.
There are trees, just not where we're looking.
-
Good, I'm not a complete pan. :D
Err...
I meant pain....
Did you use glow on the black and white version of your first Extras image, and then not on the other one?
I think you must have done something like that, 'cuz there's a definite difference...
-
I used glow on them both...though I may have used it to different levels...
-
What do you do when you think up a character?
(This is sort of generalized to Beastling and PE.)
Do you draw them out immediately and make any changes later, or play with the image in your mind first? Or, do you just draw something and put it into the story if you think it's good enough to play a certain part?
-
Well, that would depend a lot on what character, role, or whatever. Sometimes, the appearance comes first, and then I realize what role they'd fit in as best. Sometimes, the concept comes first.
I'll use 2 different characters for examples. For Beastling, I was sitting in school, drawing (of course) and I sketched a cutesy little puppy, and then gave him wings. That's where Beastling came from originally. He fit into the worlds I was "building" perfectly, and this comic was born.
For another character, I'll use one you aren't familiar with (though some here may be): Phairon. (Phairon may eventually show up in PE, though that's a big "May" in this case.) Phairon's concept came before he did. He's based very heavily on an ancient god of war and fire by the same name. (Yeah, he came about while I was studying random religions). Accordingly, his story and idea came before the way he actually looks.
Do you see, now?
-
Hm-mm! :)
What is Vapyr doing in a dungeon?
-
Don't you mean "Mmm-hmm"?
Vapyr is standing in a dungeon.
-
Oops.... Tehehehehe..... :-[ ;D
(There I go, "te-he'ing" again.)
What, haven't you ever heard it that way before? :D
Well ::) .... does he stand in dungeons often? :P
Really, what does he do in there? Does he live there!?! :-/
(I know you won't answerer that....)
I'm still thinking a of Zombie Vapyr.....
Have you figured out what colors you're going to use for the other characters that you haven't drawn since you started using color?
-
Most of them, yes.
-
Good. :D
I like the finished version of Hunter and Strich. ;)
It came a long ways from that first sketch.... :)
I want to get a mouse and a working scanner so I can do stuff like that!!!!
I'm currently making things (playing around) on Paint. Net, but I think it'd be a lot easier with those two things mentioned above.
I think, since I haven't put anything in the Art section, for a while now, (because of my lack of a working scanner) I'll put what I'm working on in here. Though it may take a long time to finish, since I'm restricted to no more than a hour on the computer per day....
-
Hey, now worries. It's not like I'm keeping to my own schedule or anything.
Man, that makes me sound even lamer...
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Nah, lame is a person that doesn't do anything or has so many things that they want to do, they lose track of everything and, by doing that, they end out doing nothing and wishing they could do everything.....
I think I fall into that last category, myself....
My mom took away the other computer, so now I can't finish my drawing!!!! :P
I'll have to get it back somehow.... someday......
Does Strich aid Hunter in any way other than armor and... does he give him extra vision? Or does Strich see things, and then, tell Hunter? Does Strich talk? I forget, is it Strich, or Stritch?
-
It's Stritch...check the Extras.
Anyway, do you really expect me to explain those things?
-
*Sigh...* :-/
No, but I was hoping. :)
Why does the web have a ? after it?
http://beastling.xepher.net/PE/? (http://beastling.xepher.net/PE/?)
I ask weird questions....
-
It's a PHP script. The ? references the highest value in a set (in this case, the set is the PE comics).
-
PHP? Highest value?
What are the other values?
If you look up, "Phairon, god of war and fire" on the Internet... then this is the only site that shows up. I didn't see anything else, anyways.
Did you change or alter the name? What was it originally?
-
Well, it was originally in Gaelic, or one of those languages. I modified it (both so it was pronounceable in English, and so it didn't have any non-English characters). I think I changed the pronunciation quite a bit. It's been several years since I read the book the legend was in, so I can't be sure.
Though I can tell you that the book was in the Junior High library. I don't know if they'd still have it.
You might try searching for just "Norse god of war and fire." I don't know that you'd find anything, but you'd have better luck with that than with my mangled translation. :)
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
I'll do that. Give me something else to do between feedings.
(Sounds like I'm talking about a baby.... a really fat baby... a 173 lb baby...)
How did you figure out how to translate it?
Hm... this is what I found.
Odin; Aesir; God of war, wisdom, magic and poetry; leader of the Aesir and king of the gods
It doesn't sound much like the name you've got....
But then this site also said something about a goddess of snowshoes...
Later:
I like the latest update; it turned out really well. But then, you already knew my opinion on that...
Why do his eyes glow when he talks about being dead!?!
(Don't bother.)
I like how the moons turned out, and how that blurry glow looks.
-
Err... will this be ignored unless I say something?
-
Uh...not deliberately.
His eyes glow 'cuz I wanted 'em to. The moons should look good, by now.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
I know. I just had to say sometihng... though it was nice of you to make sure I knew.
I look forward to seeing some of the other characters in here!
Will they be appearing in any of the sooner updates?
Will I be allowed to know?...
I hate it when I do that, and I don't think I'm the only one...?
-
Lotsa' characters in PE will be showing up in PE. No clue as to when that will be, though not long, comic-wise.
-
Heh. :D
What was the moon that glared called again?
-
Mara. Look at the current page, it lists them all.
-
Yeah... but I wasn't sure which name whent for which planet. ': )
Heh... I like how you've been saying, "Tim "Dragyn" Reed." :)
When did you start that up, anyways?
I remember having just seen that one day...
-
I believe I've done it on all the PE strips, and about the last 5 or so in Beastling.
-
Ah.
I'm observant...
I think, though, that I've gotten the moons figured out, now.
Karma and Kismet, the little, purple colored ones, Tyr, the dark teal one, Phairon, the lighter, reddish/pink hued one, and the glaring, red one is, now obviously, Mara.
-
And you're right. I'm guessing you decided Phairon was the red one based on the whole "Phairon, god of War and Fire" thing.
-
Heh... yes. That, and I thought the name Tyr fit the teal one better.
that makes sense, doesn't it?
Or am I simply thinking about silly, random things again?... :P
What gave you the ideas for all those moons and their names?
-
They're all named after various things. Since I doubt I'll explain in comic (since that's not where they got the names:
Tyr: Generally, the one God. One of the many names he's been addressed by. Popular in many fantasy games. Edit: Tyr is a Norse one, too. Though the name seems to show up in stuff older than that, too.
Phairon: Anchient Norse/Celtic (can't really remember which) god of War and Fire. I slaughtered the original name, but I like the result.
Karma: Very much based on Bhuddism/Hinduism; One or the other, can't remember which. Basically, do good things 'cuz otherwise bad things will happen. (Often phrased as "what goes around comes around")
Kismet: Fortune/Chance. Don't really know where it originated, but I like the word.
Mara: I believe this to be the name of an exceptionally violent goddess. I've run into it several times as the name of a female character's weapon, and I know it can mean "blood" as a woman's name.
That what you wanted?
-
PE updated!
Also, I added a favicon to the PE site, so it has its own. (That the little symbol that shows up by the address)
Check it!
-
Huh..I haven't really paid any attention to any of that before. XD Love those names, though. Historical fantasy, legend & religion is a love of mine. =3
And yayers! =D *skutters off to read*
-
I like the calendar. ;D
(like I've said elswhere.)
How did you come up wiht the ideas for the time in a day, a week, a month?
-
I made a calendar that would I could work with easily, based somewhat on Mayan calendars, as well as lots of thoughts and scribbles strewn about in my notebooks.
The language a significant bit of the comic will be written in is the impressive feat, in my opinion.
-
I thought it was neat, too. And hard to understand... :P
We will learn how to read a bit of that, won't we?
How long did it take you to come up with that language?
When did you finish it, exactly?
-
It's still not finished. Neither is the English language, if you think about it.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Is he standing next to a flag?
-
A small orange flag? Yeah.
-
Am I allowed to know anything about it?
(Other than the fact that it is a small orange flag, on a hill, nest to Unkown's foot. And don't you dare say his left foot.)
-
Next update of PE, you'll learn more. 'till then, nothing more.
-
*Sigh...*
Okay.
So he's got something against that something.
Do we get to find out about that in the next update, too? Does he know, or find out when the something happens, or something?
-
Uh...what?
Next update of PE will be soon, maybe your questions will be answered then. I'd try and see if I was willing to answer them, but I've no clue what you just asked...
By the way, though, PE will likely update before Beastling, 'cuz it's October, and I tend to think more of PE in this month.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
The Unkown has something against that thing that happens evert 500 years, right?
Well, I wanted to know if it would be better described before the something happens, and if the Unkown even knows what it is.
Hm... I believe I've already heard this statement...
-
You likely have. I tend to repeat myself, to make sure I'm heard.
Next PE is colored, just needs shaded, and text added. (Well, and resized, but that hardly counts)
-
Ignoring what I said, I see...
Well, I'll just have to wait and find out... :P
Neat!
I may not have to wait too long to find out, if the coming update informs me of this... ;D
I do that too, actually...
A lot of the time, I'm not acknowledged, so I have to decide if I was simply not getting a reaction, or if I should repeat. so you may hear me saying things up to ridiculous amounts of times. :P
Why would he be the only one there about it, if it was so big?
-
You'll see...
-
Heh. :)
When did PE become a "real" site, anyway?
I thought you were going to get a few more updates up beforehand...
But then, I guess there'd be not reason not to share it with people and discuss it while doing so if there wasn't any reason not to, right? ;D
-
Um...
What?
It's still not officially started, but I enjoy working with it.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Hm... errors... :P
O! A Links button! ;D
That's been there for a while, hasn't it?
Sorry, been a while since I've checked.
Now, if you say that was from before the last update, I will feel really dumb... :P
-
Nope. Just added it about a week ago.
-
So it's one of your characters walking through a cemetery with skeletal beings for links?
Imaginatve... I like it. ;D
Are you going to put anything else there?
I wonder if you'll do something like put another one of the moons, or maybe a flying character, or one of those little fireballs with faces, or... well something like that, in there above the others for the sake of space on the ground.
-
I have a mild suggestion. Add two links. One on the Beastling home page, linking to Pending Else, and one on the Pending Else page linking to Beastling.
-
It's all in the works already, folks...just gotta' get time...
...
...and internet access. That's important, too.
(Also, no actual characters show up in the navigation bar...you'll see. That there graveyard is mildly important.)
-
But I thought...
Huh.
Wasn't trying to pressure you... just wanted to know what you will do when you do it.
I don't mind if you don't do it quickly.
What's up with the Internet accessibility, now?
Are you any closer to figuring it out, now?
-
Well, we had...really, they had, I didn't do anything...it working, but then they accidentally pulled it apart, again. We know WHAT is wrong, and how to fix it, someone just has to do so.
-
Hm... how about I help next time I'm over there?
What's up?
How'd it get pulled apart again?
-
They were fixing it elsewhere, at the time.
-
So, now someone, from what I heard, has to get a smaller wire nut, or whatever, to connect the wires.
Do you guys have one that's small enough?
-
I do believe Dad bought the necessary equipment yesterday. Perhaps we will have internet by the time I get home.
I doubt it, of course, but there's a chance.
-
Well, here's hoping! :)
Tell us when you get to school tomorrow, please?
-
We'll see.
EDIT: The Ramblings thing is gone, alas. At least the site is back.
-
Alright, gonna' double post here. Forgive me.
Added a new page to PE. As stated in my edit of the previous post, the "Ramblings" section is gone, like the Blog-Like Thing. They ran on the same script, unfortunately. I'll have to replace 'em, I guess.
Anyway, since I've no place to put the usual ramblings, I'll put 'em here.
This one came out better than I'd expected. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it came out like I wanted it to.
There are, of course, errors, but I'll not dwell on them.
For the record, the layout is my Art teacher's fault. I rather like it.
-
Updatie, then... Mm...
-
All right, an update! ;D
I'll check it out when I get home, or, maybe before the bell rings... but that is highly unlikely, so, I'm betting on when I get home.
When I get home:
Neat!!! :D
A king? Ooo...
You sure did put a lot of detail into the update, this time...
I saw you making it, and I didn't know, at all, then, that it would all be so much smaller...
Good work. ;)
As usual... ;D
-
If I didn't make it smaller from the working size, then it'd be a several megabyte file, and you'd have to scroll the screen to see it all. Better to resize it.
Next Beastling is in the works...homework kept me busy, so it may be a while yet.
-
All right, a new update coming! ;D
No problems with that, here. Homework is kinda important, ya' know?
Yeah, but I still didn't think it'd be so much smaller...
Do you save all your updates on you computer? or do you delete them when they're done and posted for space's sake?
-
The mystery continues. ..... ...... ...............
-
That was kinda random, wasn't it?...
I just realized that. ;D
Was the Orb hiding from Issac?
-
Yes, our friend Mr. E (sorry...bad pun. His name isn't E, or even close) was hiding both the orb and the radio from Issac.
As for the comics: I keep backup files of all the comics. Multiple copies, usually, in various stages. (Sketch, Ink, Color, Shade, Resize) and multiple copies of each (CD, Hard Drive, Email).
Not very often in the email, though.
-
Who's Mr. E?
-
Mr. E should be read aloud, to get the joke.
It's what I'm using to refer to the guy in the blue coat, who is also known as "The Mysterious," for now. I can't really address him by name, now can I?
-
Heh. ;D
Oh. I feel smart, now. :P
Well it's not a bad pun. I just didn't get it. :)
Is "taget" supposed to be "target?"
-
D'oh!
Yes. Yes it is.
(Changes something)
I mean...what are you talking about?
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Nothing, I suppose... :)
Have you thought up a name for the current update?
-
Well.. I see the plot is moving. Hehe. I like what little of the characters that have shown up so far.
-
Glad you like it...wish it moved a little faster...though I guess I'm the only one who can do anything about that.
and No, I don't name them 'till they're done. I might should, but I don't.
-
I wonder, if you understood...
Sorry, perhaps the wrong topic, for that.
I ment. "Which I shall name later." ':)
You already know I like all of your characters. ;D
It's fine that it's moving at this rate. You've got a lot of things you're dealing with. You've gotta get all that stuff figured out by January... and then you'll not be able to update that often because of locations and the lack of a scanner.
-
Eh, we'll see about that.
I don't think I'm gonna' rename "Which I shall Name Later, Maybe." I've thought about it, and I can't think of anything that fits better, anyway.
-
Nondum dictum? XD I think that means "not yet named" in Latin. I still have trouble with things like "ed", "est", etc. XP
I just call the guy Mr. X. ;D
-
Mr. X?
Heh...
Hey Dragyn, you know how you said those holidays sneek up on you?
Christmas is coming!
It's about a month away!
(Do you think that's early enough to see if you can get a Christmas picture in Extras? ;D )
-
Uh-oh...
We'll see. I'm out of school completely by the 16th, so I should be able to manage something.
'course, come January, I'm in school again, already.
-
And... the bell rang.
:P
I'll try this, again, later.
Later:
Dragyn Yoda... ;D
When/why did that happen?
-
It happened 'cuz I made it happen, somewhere on the forum.
-
Heh. ;D
I found that out, later, as you probably assumed...
I wonder what would offer one the opportunity for a place to stay, in a map store... locations?...
Ambushes?
...I think, though, that I will not be privy to this particular information...
Isn't it usually a prince, or other, young noble, that usually runs away before they can "accept" heritage?
Take that, cliche!
Why would a king be hiding?
Maybe he's in a foreign country... or, perhaps the former king, his father, died, and now he's king, but doesn't want to be...
Perhaps I might/should stop rambling...
-
Or perhaps, you should wait and see...
I need to make Issac's cast page...
Rithiel's is up, now. I had the drawing, so I just finished it up.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
That, I think I will do. :)
Ya'll should look and see! It's really neat!
Gotta' wonder how long it took to draw in all the fur, by hand...
How'd you get the glowing outlines, anyway? And how do they change color, in sections, like that?
-
Heh.
I filled the area around them with color, then used a gaussian blur to pull it away. The color shows through that. It's just some stacked gradients.
The fur...took about an hour. I did it with the mouse.
-
A gaussian bur? Neat...
Her job is the same as her name...
Will we find out why, anytime soon?
-
Rithiel shows up in Chapter 2. She's a bit important.
Chapter 1 comes first, though...
That sounded dumb...
-
Can't wait to see her, she looks cool.
Don't worry. It didn't sound as dumb as what my cousin said today when I was telling her I didn't like citrus.
"It's not citrus, it's an orange!"
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Meh, didn't sound dumb...
Roughly, how many characters are showing up in the first chapter?
About how long is the first chapter?
(Estimations.)
-
Estimations are not my strong suit...
Lesse' now...
Looks like there's at least 6 I can think of, along with a few background characters. I might've missed some, too.
-
Heh...
this is cookiemonster taking over the keyboard again...muahahahah! how is every bodee? good? Good. Muahahahahha! Toodles!
She likes to do that, I think...
And yet she finds no time to actually log one, herself. :P
Well, I like how Rithiel turned out. ;)
The bell's telling me to head off, again... at least, today, after a Robotics meeting, I get the computer after school! :)
-
Heh.
Well, as stated in the "Beastling: Discuss the Comic" thread, I'm switching to updating PE primarily. Beastling will still be next to update...just only once more.
It's not over, though...
-
Of course not. :)
So how far is the Beastling update to being finished?
-
How should I know, it's not like I draw it or anything...
wait...
Actually, it's about 1/3 inked. I'd hoped to have it further, but it's hard to make yourself do something if you're not positive it's correct...
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Well, I look forward to seeing it, as always. ;D
-
Worked more on Beastling today, started scripting on the next PE comic. Note, however, that you'll get the next chapter page before the actual comic in PE. Still haven't started that.
Finals are finished, which means I'll probably have more time to muck with comic stuff...who knows, I may actually manage to get some Cast pages made!
By the way, check the PEEP (http://beastling.xepher.net/PE/extras.php) for a new wallpaper.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Question:
Is the background to this one made with "cloud" and transparent layers?
-
Nope. No "cloud" filters at all. Just a conical blue/orange gradient and a Gaussian blur.
-
Gradients are win. I never really liked the cloud filters..though I've used 'em when following tutorials.
-
Er... what exactly are the "gradients?" And what's "Gaussian?"
I've been meaning to ask that... ;D
Blue and orange? It doesn't look like it... neat. :)
My cat is on the keyboard, and now it's making really weird sounds.... O.o
(Gonna' go move her...)
-
Wait wait...
Which "current one" are we talking? 'Cuz if you're talking about PE itself, then yes, I played with all of the above, including Cloud filters, Gaussian blur, and Gradients. 'Twas fun.
Gaussian is the most basic of blurs--it takes and smears each pixel out X pixels. Gradients are colors that blend gradually.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Well... it was kinda silly of me to ask what gradient is... 'cuz I knew that... but I was being... well, me.
And I forgot to take off the thing about Gaussian, when I looked it up. >.<
Don't I feel brilliant? :P
Heh. :)
Yup, the current update in PE, with the purple and black clouds. ;D
What did you think I was talking about?
-
The most recently mentioned object...which it appears would've been Nikalus.
-
Oh... heh. Sorry. ':)
Will you ever share how to read your language?
Or will I have to do it myself...?.?.?... [img]http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/ramjik.gif" alt=">:(" title=">:(" border="0"/> ;D
-
You would share such information? Would you expect me to?
I plan to...eventually...
-
O.o
I don't know...
I don't know what you're doing with it.? ;D
Will there be things that require our inability to read your language to meet expectations?
Well, as long as "eventually" comes along. :)
-
Comic wise, there will be times I'll translate it, but mostly I'll leave it misunderstood.
The language will begin to be explained in a different comic set, not in PE. I suspect DR will be the comic in question, though that is still up for debate.
SW is also a viable culprit, hence the debate. Odds are, whichever I decide to do next will be the one that starts explaining it. The other will just help with the "quirks" and suchlike...
And, if you now have even less of a clue as to what's going on: good. :) [img]http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/ramjik.gif" alt=">:(" title=">:(" border="0"/>
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
:P
O.O
More being made, now?
(Yippee!) ;D
What are DR and SW called?
-
DR is Dead Reckoning. It's (mostly) about the barbed wire demon who you see behind the pickup in the Halloween '06 image (http://beastling.xepher.net/extrahalloween'06.html), way back when.
Whoah...2 whole years...
SW is Shadow Wolf, and is a working title. Our good friend Mr. E is a somewhat more significant character in that one.
-
Really? Two years?
I guess it was obvious... but it didn't feel that long... :)
I remember when you made that...
Neat. :D
How long have you been working on those?
-
On those projects? DR used to be part of PE proper (which is why he shows up in that image), but I decided it wouldn't fit in, and cut it out and put it in a different project of it's own. It's a lot bigger than it originally was...
As for SW, I'm not sure. There've been echoes of it in my various projects for quite a while...since before I started Beastling, even, but I never really considered it a project of its own, before now.
If it helps any, parts of the SW project(s) showed up in the "card project" way back in Jr. High.
-
Oh!
I remember those... ;D
(Another thing I miss... I don't have any drawings to look at on the bus, anymore...) :P
What was the wire demon gonna' do in PE?
-
Nothing, really. That's why I took him out--his story was mostly irrelevant.
-
Kinda like Nikulas?
Hm... it's a pity so many neat characters have to go... :P
Luckily, there was another story for that one. :)
So are you going to make comics out those, too?
-
Out of which?
-
Heh. :)
Out of your other projects, SW and DR?
-
Oh, probably.
I might try making SW into a game, but I don't think so. SD would probably make a better game, anyway.
-
SD?
How many projects do you have!?! ;D
-
As I've said before: lots.
I don't know, exactly. A lot of them are more concepts than projects, and some have been scrapped, or canceled, or merged, but there's a lot of 'em.
-
Heh. ;D
Which ones do you think are most likely to be made into something?
-
If all goes according to the way things work in my mind: all of them.
If all goes according to actual expectations: maybe 5-10.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Well, good luck, then. ;D
Which ones are those 5-10?
Or do you know?
-
Hmm...tough call. I wouldn't know, yet, but since there are a few I tend to favor...
-
...
?
I think you left me hanging like that on purpose.... >.<
-
Indeed I did.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
:P
I wish I could do that to you, sometimes... ;D
But I don't have the means to do so, at the moment.
And, besides, it does make the story better...
-
A'right: An update on the status of the update, since it's been quite a while since I last updated:
The page is almost done. I only have a few little details to add, and then it'd need resized and to have the text added.
The problem? The page is on a computer 2 hours away. I had it burned to a CD, but the CD seems to be corrupted. I'll keep trying to get it to work, but I can't make any guarantees.
Also: I can't just make something in Paint.net, because these computers won't let me install it, and I can't run it off the CD I put it on for the same reason I can't get the next comic off of it...
So, I'll update when I can, with what I can. Sorry about all this.
-
Meh - I undersand it enough...
So, what would you be making it on?
Will you have to make update whenever you can get to the computer which is two hours away?
-
Uh...yeah, that looks like what I'll have to do...
Though, on a positive note, I did manage to get Paint.net copied onto my bro's computer, off of that CD...I'm gonna' try to get more off it later, I think, but it was really, really bad.
-
Oh?
Well, that you got the program on your computer is good news. :)
What was bad?
-
The CD...it reads slow, and makes all of the usual cliché scratchy, grinding noises that a bad disk makes. I...think it's dead now, permanently.
The real problem is that I didn't get anything more off of it, and Paint.net is a bit heavy of a program for that particular computer. I'm hoping to go home this coming weekend, so I can make a couple of new backup disks. I think I'm gonna' leave some there, too, if only so I have more than one copy.
It doesn't help my concern that Xepher had a disk drive (on which he hosts my site) fail, which could lose info. Of course, Xepher has everything backed up, so there doesn't seem to have actually been any downtime.
-
He lost your site?
How'd/when did that happen?
-
He didn't lose it, but one of his drives crashed. Since he has multiples running at all times, nothing was lost, and nothing went down.
-
Hm... well that's good.
Having his job sounds a bit chaotic...
Do you still think you'll get to the computer to finish it this weekend?
(Jus' checking...)
-
His job is voluntary. He only gets paid if people donate, and that tends to go into maintenance. If you get a chance, thank him for me.
He actually works another job (no clue as to what...he only talks about it occasionally) to pay his bills, and whatever, so I'm sure he enjoys it, or he wouldn't do it.
As for the update: It's up! Admittedly, it's not funny, as chapter images rarely are, but it looks pretty good, I think. I'll leave it up to ya'll to decide, though.
-
Heh, yeah...
Hm... I haven't gotten to checking that forum for ages... >.<
That... that's not a good thing....
Does he delete members, after long absences?
Well, you know my opinion, and I know your opinion of my opinion. :P
^_^
-
I don't think he deletes anyone except spammers...
Next page...will come, sometime. I might have to sketch it in Paint.net...
-
I heard you talking about how that takes a while.... :(
Why would you have to?
-
I have no access to a scanner, here. If I want a scanner, I have to do it from home, 2 hours away.
-
Well, that's a pity... so, I guess you have to draw it out there, and wait....
Or, does your school have scanners, that you could use, and then send yourself the image scanned from them?
I suppose that you're likely to have already thought about that, but asking, either way....
-
Nope, no scanners, here. Not any that I know of, anyway. There probably are some in the art building, but I wouldn't know where...and I probably wouldn't be allowed to use 'em, anyway.
I've started sketching it...it's taking forever.
-
Heh. ;D
I look forward to seeing it. ^_^
How many updates have you had for PE, now?
What gave you the idea for that name? Pending Else...
Curious as to what you based that upon, in the comic, but then, I don't know about my finding out, any time, soon... :P
-
The name Pending Else means many things, nothing among them.
Hmm...I believe I'm working on page 7...I could check (and I probably will, later) but the page numbers are usually somewhere on the page, so you could check, yourself.
-
Ah, right... :P
Well, what does it mean to the comic, is what I'm interested in. Usually the names of things like this are based on the thing, right? And that's where I won't be knowing anything more... >.<
Right?
Other than that, I'm not sure what the name means to you, now, other than it might just mean nothing. O.o
So, now, I think I may just be more confused than I previously was...
-
Huh...if I'd remembered to bring the right CD with me today, I'd currently be working on the next update. As it stands now, I'm trying to figure out the art programs already installed on these school computers...no real luck, so far.
Regardless, I figure I should direct all of ya'll to the PEEP (http://beastling.xepher.net/PE/extras.php) to try and tide you over. I put the nightmare in there, now...
And now, back to messing around with these programs...
-
Heh. ;D
I saw that, earlier. ^_^
I just have to say that I don't really know how it's all supposed to be put together, due to the fact that I can't actually see the body... so that may be causing the appearance, to me, that the dragon's body is short and small, in comparison to it's head...
However past that it's good. :)
Can I use it for my background?
I'm not sure ifd I should be asking, since it's intended to be wallpaper, however, in the PEEP, you say to ask to use anything...
-
"Unless specified otherwise." That means that if it's tagged as a WP (Wallpaper, FYI), then you can use it without asking. Everything in there is tagged as WP, excepting the Vapyr image.
-
Ah... okay. ^_^
Thanks. :)
Sorry, I have to have you guys explain a lot of silly stuff to me, don't I? >.< :P
-
Nope, it's fine. I actually sorta' prefer that you ask, rather than just take it, if you're unsure.
-
Heh. Well, then I'm not totally screwing up... :P
Hey, is Nightmare to do with PE, in particular, or was it the result of a random experiment that you wanted to share?
-
Well, that's not any particular character or anything. I was practicing for the next comic...which I really need to finish and upload...
-
Ah... well, it'll come about soon enough. :)
I like all the faces on those trees, in the last update. ^_^
Are those trees all over PE, or just there? I've seen them in other drawings...
-
A significant portion of artwork pertaining to PE take place around that area--those trees aren't actually that common in Symmetraxis.
-
Ah...
And... is the sancutary an old church of some sort?... or is it just a place were somebody's safe from something?
-
Sacnctuary is a noun referring to an area that is safe--many churches call the main meeting place the sanctuary, as well.
-
Hence the question.
But now I got it, thank you. ^_^
Does the symbol on the door mean anything, or is it just there?
-
...Answering that would go against my present policies. Wait and see.
-
:P
Most of my questions related to your projects are. >.<
However, I used to get you to share some of that stuff.
Actually, I think I'm a good deal of the reason you say that type of thing all the time, now. :P
'Cuz I was apparently getting to know too much before it happened. ::)
- ?
-
You and everybody else, actually.
-
Heh. :)
Hm...
So there's pretty much a whole forest of those trees, back there?
Do they move, say, their branches, or just their faces? Or do they move at all?
I'm... not finding out, any time soon, am I?
-
In time, it will be explained...
-
Heh... sorry, you must find me rather imaptient, and kinda irritating, about this sort of thing... >.<
-
On the plus side, you did get me to work on the next update...it's still not even close, though.
-
Heh. ;D
Well, it'll get done, eventually. :)
How far along are you?
-
Um...not very?
I need to copy that to a different place, so I can work on it elsewhere...it'll get erased if I leave it as-is.
-
As-is?
I know the school's computers delete stuff, but how would you change that?
-
I'd copy it all to CDs and such...it's gonna' get erased, there's no changing that.
-
Hm... well, I hope ya' can get it figured out, soon. :)
Hey, what color are Rithiel's eyes?
When I looked at past pictures, they were just black and white... is that it?
(I'm trying to make one of those emoticons.)
-
Rithiel? Uh...they should be orange, but I probably didn't ever color them.
Aaron's are also orange, though I've a sneakin' suspicion you won't be needing that information. [img]http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/ramjik.gif" alt=">:(" title=">:(" border="0"/>
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Heh... you're adjusted signature makes me laugh, too... ;D
(When did that happen?)
What about K'os's?
Hey, do you have any suggested characters for making emoticons?
(In other words, ones you think I could make... >.< )
-
Neither K'os nor Disodrer have any color in their eyes besides the yellow glowy bit.
I'm not making suggestions, 'cuz I sorta' want to see which ones end up getting made, anyway.
Also: The correct form is "your," not "you're."
Hehe...I'll stop now.
-
Er... heh... oops...
I do that, too much... >.<
Hm... yellow glowy bit?
-
Where their pupils should be, there is nothing but a glowing yellow diamond of light. The "whites" of their eyes are black, and shadowed.
The next update would probably be done by now, but I haven't had it with me, so I haven't been able to work on it. I will be taking it with me, so it should be done soon.
Of course, I did manage to finish something else instead, but I forgot to bring it with me, so you'll still have to wait 'till I can get to that to see it...
Sorry I've been without in'net for so long. I'm not dead yet, really!
-
Oops... I didn't see this, last time... :P >.<
Heh. ;D
I hope not. :P
Hm... I do believe you have a computer at the appartment... jus' one that doens't have Internet, right?
So, you can work on things form there, but not post them or anything like that?
(Jus' checking to see what the situation is.)
-
Yeah, that's sorta' where things are at. It's also a bit slow, so things take longer than I'm used to.
The next update will come soon. I've some shading and texturing, then text to add, and it'll be done.
I may look into Beastling again soon, but I promise nothing.
-
Double post, so this'll actually be seen:
PE page 7 is up, and I cleaned up the PEEP while I was at it.
There are a lot more Extras in there when they all show up...
-
Heh. ;D
Yes, there were...
And... I ought to go to bed before I try to make a coherent statement about the comic... >.<
Anyway... goodnight everyone... ^_^
*Stumbles outside to airstream to set the alarm for four somethin' and crash out on pile of pillows...*
-
Oi. Is it the monitor I'm using, or did the compression get almost as brutal on shading as the rescaling did on the speech bubbles.
Using a heavier line in the original might stop that in the future, but I don't know what to say about thew shading.
-
The speech bubbles weren't rescaled. It's all the compression's fault, I'm afraid. I may have to switch back to using .png as the format, despite the larger file sizes.
The shading never looks good after compression. I think it's something to do with the way the conversion handles multiple partially transparent layers.
Ah, well. If 100% accuracy on a .jpg looks as bad as this, .png may be worth the file size.
-
Hm... What's the differences png and .jpg?
I've heard of .jpg, before, but not so much of the other...
-
It's not very well-known yet, I don't think.
-
So... what's it for?
-
It's not the transparent layers. Those get wiped out in the flattening, which you should do before converting to a lossy format. It's the way it deals with colors that gets you.
Either your compression of the file format itself is gutting your color depth, turning your careful transparency work into the same hard color changes you'd get without transparency.
I might not know art, but I know a gutted color depth when I see it.
-
My guess is File format--.jpg is getting infamous for a reason.
-
Huh...
Well I haven't heard of .png before, I don't think... how/whydoes it change the file size?
So that's what that's called... (fader.) ':D
-
when saved as a .jpg, the data for the image (the pixel map and such) are converted from one format to another. The Paint.Net files include several separate layers of data, and intricate formulas and protocols for handling how they stack. JPG just merges all of it into one layer of data, and often blurs edges, adds noise, and makes colors just a bit...off.
.PNG also only works in one layer, but it maintains pixels as they are, and doesn't seem to have a problem with edges or noise. As an added plus, it also supports transparency, both full and partial--if the viewing program (usually an internet browser in this case) supports it.
Well, it's a lot more technical than I made it sound, but that's about what it does. The multiple layers tend to take up more space, as does transparency. That's the short version of the filesize issue.
-
Huh.
And to change that do you just change the file type you save it as, like you'd make an HTML file an HTML by saving it .html, or a rich text document an rtf by saving it as .rtf?
Or do you have to do someting else?
-
The proram you use has to be capable of interpreting the format to change it. Open a .bmp in Paint.Net, then save it as a .jpg or a .png, or a .pdn (Paint.Net File), but if you use, say, the original Microsoft Paint, then about all you'll have available is .bmp. Just changing the file extension won't work, as the data within wouldn't match.
-
*Sigh...* :P
Paint.Net is something I don't think I'll be getting, anytime soon.
However, what's a .pdn file in comparison to a .bmp, .jpg or .png?
-
.pdn is huge, relatively, as it's essentially several other image files stacked on top of each other, as each layer is stored seperately. Combine that with the fact that each layer includes several shades and transparency, and the cumulative file size is massive.
Of course, .pdn still manages to keep the files fairly small. The ones I end up with, complete with 20-30+ layers, are usually less than 3-5 times as large as the compressed .jpgs I end up with.
-
Huh...
Files are strange things. But useful, I suppose.
What's the strange glowing thing in the tall building in the city/town or whatever in the most recent update on PE?
If it's a light... then why is it the only visible light in the community?
-
It is a clock. It is backlit, and is the tallest building in the city.
Anyway, the next update is ready. Now, I just need a computer I can upload from...
-
Ooo...
Why are that guy's eyes like that, what're on all the shelves, what's that pendant on King Issac, what kind of shop is that, why does everyone know who he is, what's going to happen to him, and what happened to that reddish-haired guy's left eye?
I know you can only actually answer a few of those questions, and I really was going to just ask answerable ones, honest... but they just kinda all went together in this one chunk of text that somehow magically appeared on my reply... ... ...
Anyway...
Be happy I stopped when I did. :P
-
That guy's eyes have been that way since I first drew him; look closely at the stuff on the shelves; Issac wears a cross on his necklace; you'll find out later; you'll find out later; and you'll find out later.
There, I answered 'em all. Though, probably not as thoroughly as you'd have liked.
-
:P
Better than I expected, though. ;D
Any news on the Beastling hiatus?
Do you think it'll be easier or harder to tend to, when school starts?
-
Hmm...that depends a lot on extenuating circumstances, which I hope to see resolved be the end of the week.
But then, there's also the factors of chance and time to work around, so we'll worry about that after school starts.
-
Hm... kay.
What are you going to do with your language?
Are you just going to keep it and never tell anyone how to read it? :P
-
Oh, I'm sure someone'll figure it out, eventually. It's not particularly complex.
-
I would've tried already... but I'm busy.
Maybe tomorrow... :P
Er, after I finish attempting the crown-thing...
Oh, and my laundry...
And the dishes...
And guitar-practice...
And water the garden...
And finish those drawings for those people...
And work...
Which I'm waking up at four, for...
Which means I need to go to sleep, soon...
And then I have a Cross-country run in the evening...
Maybe not tomorrow...
Maybe the day after tomorrow... ... ...
Ya' know what? I'm gonna' stop, there.
There are a lot more people in PE that Beastling, aren't there?
Why?
-
PE takes place in a preexsisting world-build. Beastling only has characters in it who I find pertinent to the story, and is much more limited in its scope.
-
So, there are less characters, and I can understand why that would affect it.
But how the fact that PE is in a preexisting world-build?
-
Pending Else takes place in a world, with preexisting characters, places, etc.
Beastling, for the most part, is just made up as I go along. Sure, I know where he'll end up, but the specifics are, deliberately vague, so I have some freedom to be weird.
It's all about the feel of the thing, really.
-
Ah, so there are more characters that are humans because more characters are required to contribute to the story and complete the plot... right?
-
...
...
What?
-
...
I don't know, I'm trying to figure out what you said! :P
So maybe I should be asking what? ;D
Sorry, tad slow, at times. >.<
-
Well, if you figure it out, let me know...
Next PE is done, just need access to someplace I can upload it.
I could've had it done in less than a week, but...stuff came up, and I didn't have it with me.
Ah well, so it goes.
-
Meh... first I'm gonna' try to figure out that language of yours. :P
But first I'm gonna' get ready and then go on a hiking trip...
How long did it take you to make that language?
Oh?
Then I'll get to see an update when I get back, if all goes well... :)
Ya' know what I just noticed? Now I have gotten more than 2,000 posts... ;D
Ya' know what else?
You're second to me, Dragyn, and you're still at 1,365. :P
That... is depressing. >.<
-
Total time? I'd guess it took...a year? Two? I'unno, exactly.
I'm sure someone'll catch up with you eventually.
-
A'ight, double post, here. Sorry.
PE updated. Vapyr makes an appearance.
Next up, the PE cast page has updated. Issac's Bio page is up, and I put up Kheros' backstory. The link is under Kheros' card.
Next PE is forthcoming. I think I'm gonna' shoot for next weekend...
-
Haven't commented in the comic areas in a while. >.>
I think that bazooka thing just made me like Mysterious a whole lot more. X3 I also really like the bat-to-Vapyr effects, there.
-
Glad you liked the effects. Took me a bit to decide how to do them, and then they took a lot longer than expected.
Ah, the bazooka thing...the Agent has style, I'll grant him that.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
I liked the effects, also.
How'd you do that?
Woah... we are getting some rain, here...
Maybe I won't have to water the garden... ;D
Does the, er, Agent have those, er, leg-wrapping thingies, like Rithiel's?
If not, then what's the stripey-thing?
Hm... the Sanctuary Keep must be pretty large, 'cuz it's rather well-sized, there, and the trees are just blurs on the horizon.
-
Semi-transparent Paintbrush, layered on top of itself, though it's all contained in one layer...assuming that made any sense to you...
The Agent is wearing big, heavy boots. They have no laces or straps, just thick padding along them. You can see them a bit better here (http://beastling.xepher.net/PE/Unknown.php). That's what you're seeing as wrappings.
Sanctuary is pretty big, yes. It's also on a hill, and the trees are behind the hill a bit.
-
I particularly like the radial gradient behind the panel with the explosion.
Just the right touch, sir.
-
Heh.
I can understand that, it made sense.
Heh... "For once." right?
How many layers were in that'n?
I'm imagining a lot for the shap-shift, but then you tend to use a lot for details, anyway.
Oh...
Oops.
-
Heh...caught yerself, then?
There's actually...let me think...scribbledy, sketch, BG, ink, detail, color, shadow 1-3, bgcolor, trees...I think that's all of 'em. So, that'd be 11 layers. No...12, there's also the one called smokestyle.
So yeah, just 12 layers on this one. I'm getting better.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
I love the name of the layers... ;D
Neat. Wasn't your old average something around 30?
-
20 to 30, yeah. I occasionally drift towards that many, but not nearly as often.
That's actually what the layers are called, too, by the way.
-
I use the same program and 5 is high for me.
-
Heh. I use Windows Paint, so I don't get any layers. :( :P
Meh, still fun to play with, anyway. ;D
So... I'm curious... does one of the moons change color, or something?...
-
What? Why would the moons change color?
@ Gryph: 5 is high for you, is it? Do you shade your work, or just outline and color it, 'cuz the shading usually accounts for most of my layers.
-
i don't usually shade ;D ;D
-
Heh. Yup, that'd be it, then.
Well... in one of the beginning updates, on the basics of the systems of Symmetraxis, it showed and named all the moons, but none were white.
Now every moon I see is a solitary white moon.
-
I don't get layers, so I don't use them. >_> It'd probably be easier if I did....but I'm impatient. Blargh....
You know, Faith, there are so many things I've never given any thought to until you mentioned them. I can't tell you how many times I've said to myself "Wait....where was that?" and looked back.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Sometimes I think that Dragyn would prefer that I didn't notice those things. :P
Not that a moon that changed color wouldn't be neat, or anything... ;D
Well, your drawings still turn out really well, for not using layers...
Extremely well, actually. Like in those winter pictures you do with all that snow falling. As well as your shading and light affects.
-
Well, the White moon you see should probably still be red, and it is, in fact, slightly red-tinted, though that sorta' makes it look like the wrong moon. It's just not as red as it was, 'cuz I seem to have lost the pallette I'd been using for it.
Uh, since I don't think this'll be mention again in-comic:
Tyr: Blue/Blue-White moon
Karma + Kismet: Twin Moons, usually drawn purple
Mara: The red moon (The one you've supposedly been seeing)
Phairon: Lighter Red Moon
-
Heh.
Thought so. (As to the naming.)
Mara doesn't always have "her" (?) face, then?
Do any others ever get faces or designs?
-
Mara should always have the face. Look closely...
-
You're drawing your comics digitally, without using layer, but you have a layer feature?
1. Your coloring is very impressive, for not uing layers. -Or even for someone using layers.
2. Get yourself some layers, it will really make coloring and shading faster, easier and better.
The principal advantages of layers are twofold. There's other tricks that become natural once you get used to using them.
1. You can paint on a layer under your line work. This allows you to color right up to the lines without worrying about coloring over them.
2. You can shade or paint in a layer over something and then erase parts of that layer, without effecting the stuff under it. Again you can color in a line drawing without worring about hurting the background, as you can erase the stuff that sticks out and the backround will re-appear.
Plus you can shade something, erase the shading and redo it, or simply change the tint/shade of your shadows later, without damaging the actual picture.
I hope this helps.
Also, moons with faces are creepy. I think you did that on purpose.
-
Indubitably.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
@Dragyn: ... including page 9?
@Bloodreaper: So you think, with our moon, that "the man on the moon" is creepy, too?
-
Every page I've drawn it in...it's sometimes fainter than others, though...
And, of course, resizing it ocassionally hurts it severely.
-
Hm. That might've been it. The last one didn't look so prominent, so...
Was there even any mention of the last update?...
It's neat. Though I wish I knew what was behind that door... or the meaning of the symbol on it, for that matter. :P
Do Vapyr's eyes always catch the sky that much? Is it something to do with his vampire-like state?
-
His eyes just look like that. The sky isn't even close to that bright.
Ah, the door...next update should help, there...maybe.
And no, I neglected to mention that I updated again. My bad.
-
Heh. :D
That's okay. I forgot to reply to this. ':D
*Shrugs.*
Also, I partially thought the brightness was due to Mara's reflection. Which apparently isn't a reflection or probably even Mara. But maybe...
...
Um, yeah, never mind. >.<
Huh... so that explains the moon and the stars that I previously thought were reflected, and therefore thought that the dungeon of that other picture was open to the sky, or something... and why you didn't want to answer my questions about it. :P
But you didn't deny it then, either. So I was still thinking it was how his eyes reflected the sky. '=J
...
Maybe.
That's wonderful.
Grrs... you're trying to get me muddled up again, aren't you? ;D
-
Oh, indubitably...maybe.
-
...
:P
;D
Okay, I'm curious... does your language have an actual verbal existence, in the real world? Or is it just the figures to make the words with no known way to pronounce it?
Either way... I've started trying to decipher it... ^_^
I won't tell you what I've got so far, but I've started.
Which is why I asked that question...
-
It does, in fact, have a verbal component.
Good luck with that...
hehehe...
-
:P
Very encouraging. >.<
Well, I bet there's no way I'll figure the verbal bit. >.<
Unless you helped me, but... yeah. ::)
What are you going to use it for? You can't hear a comic...
But then I'd not want to make a language and not be able to speak it...
So maybe the question would be, are you going to use it for something? ;D
-
Well, if I should ever see fit to make a movie of some sort...
Note, however, that that is not particularly probable.
-
"Not particularly probably?..."
Aw, why not? =J
I know, I know...
So you would, if you could?
That's neat. ;D
Oh, and maybe those games you mentioned, earlier?... that might be used, there...
I always have a tendancy of answering questions I've asked, after I've asked 'em. >.<
But I didn't know about he possible movie bit...
-
Hmmm...
Next page is up! I told you I'd get it done this week, didn't I?
For anyone who's curious as to how big these things are when I work on them, I made the First Panel of today's comic (http://beastling.xepher.net/PE/images/Extras/P11_P1_BG.jpg) into a Desktop Background as reference. I didn't have to stretch it, though I did have to crop a bit off...
-
That's, well, pretty big... you just shrink 'em for each slide?...
Cool! :D
That kinda eliminates my previous question, but... cool. ;D
I like the new characters... ^_^
So... ... ...
That makes the glaring moon-thing more fitting. =J
-
Huh?
Oh...the Lady Mara thing...right?
-
Heh.
Yes, that'd be it.
Hm... what would you say if I said I'm a little irritated with Beastling's placement in that relatively recent wallpaper? :P
-
I would have to ask what you find irritating about it.
By the way, would I be correct in assuming you are referring to the "teleporting" wallpaper?
-
IT HAS NO BALANCE!
Move him a few pixels to the right, at least. Maybe move his medallion over the center of the spiral.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
@Dragyn:
Yes. That's the one. Why!?!
Nobody could read it anyway...
Well... okay, so if there were people like me in mind then maybe his placement was with purpose... :P
This is if I'm reading it correctly... but I think I've got it.
I've been meaning to mention this for a while. But I was considering taking advantage of your absence.
Since you've been gone I've had some access to Paint. Net at the house with your old computer. But that's not fair.
Then I was considering not saying anything, so that you might let it slip... but that's not really fair, either. >.<
@Blood:
Hehehe... well, not quite...
I don't know about his balance, actually, now I might have to go check... XD
-
The balance was much better before it was cropped. Originally, he was centered, but I had to shift stuff around to get it to fit in the current dimensions.
I suppose I still have the original, somewhere. I should be able to move him pretty easily...
-
Of course, doing it that way pushes the spiral off center, which might induce a bit too much nausea for a desktop.
-
I'll dink around with it sometime, and find something else.
-
Oo... how did the mod's names change color?
-
Only Blood's...
-
<font color="Red"><div style="width:300px; filter:glow(color=red,strength=2)">I'm just creepy like that...</div></font>
-
Sure.
-
You dare to level you sarcasm against my creepiness!?
I will wear your <font color="Red">organs</font> as a<font color="Red"> hat!</font>
...
Now do you doubt me?
-
Mmhm.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
I think The Dark Lord of Chocolate isn't too concerned about the threats of the Pirate Mod... XD
Though, that... is in an interesting match to think of... :P
-
Just you wait and see.
You'll see...
They'll all see~....
-
<font color="005DBD"><marquee>You like playing with the tags, don't you, Blood?</marquee></font>
Anywho. I'm liking the new creatures..namely the one with that sword. At least..I assume it's a sword?
-
I am working up my Tag-Fu, since, now that I'm a mod, I might need it someday.
One of those things I've always meant to play with, but never really found the time and opportunity.
Gilgrim?
-
Yeah. I can't really tell what he's wrapped in/made of, but from what I can tell..he's just spiffy-looking. x3
-
Spiffy!
I think Gilgrim is one of the most line-intensive characters I've got. He takes forever to draw, but he's a ton of fun to pose...
I suspect that, of this group, at least a few of you will favor Gilgrim...
-
Is he going to appeal to my "Mwahahah! Railguns!" laugh or my sadistic barking cackle?
-
*Snrk!..* :D
Okay... um, first of all...
Tag?... what exactly is that about?
And how did Fox do that with her text?...
And rail guns? Well, Blood, your mind... is a disturbing place, at times, but I think you've earned that right. :P ;D
Hm... ... ... I choose to react to that, later, like when he does something else.
But that reaction seems to rather humor you, Dragyn. You know I'm curious, now. XD
-
Hmm....
-
The rail gun laugh comes with an East Europe accent.
Like this: "Zis neyw rail gonne vill be powerfvul enuf to blow up zer moon! Mwa HAhahahah!"
I call it that, because it happens whenever I think about building giant railguns, or anything to do with anti-matter.
-
Sadly, I knew what you meant by the "Rail gun laugh." I don't recall Gilgrim using the railgun, though...
EDIT: Comic's up!
Page 12, to be precise. Unlike page 11, it has no title, so whatever.
Since I don't think it'll come up in the comic itself, I'll point out that yes, K'sk is a bit defensive about the end result of any glorious battle he's involved in.
Considering the history they've got, I guess it makes sense.
-
He iz havink a Railgun!?
-
Heh!
Neat... :D
How'd you make that background?
The shack looks... cozy...
Is it being supported by a stick, on it's right?... XD
-
That'd be the left, but yes. Yes it is.
Railgun railgun...
Not Gilgrim, no.
-
Reader's left, shack's right. =J
Hm... I'm not really sure about what this railgun is... but it sure seems popular... for Blood, anyway. ;D
?
-
Oh, you're just teasing me now. [img]http://beastling.xepher.net/images/forum/ramjik.gif" alt=">:(" title=">:(" border="0"/>
Railgun is a catchall term for a device that uses magnetic fields to accelerate a piece of matter to very high speeds.
While railgun technology, if developed could have innumerable civilian and scientific uses, the thing that people are really interested in is whether you could make one small enough to use as an actual gun, but still powerful enough to level small cities.
If you get it going fast enough, a tiny piece of metal can do some enormous damage.
The Particle accelerators of the recently activated Large HADRON Collider form the largest railgun in the world, at this time.
I want one, but I haven't got the GNP of France just lying around, or a plot of land the size of western Europe, so I'll have to wait for the technology to get smaller and cheaper.
Any railgun appearing in this comic is going to contain awesomeness. I wonder if it'll be a giant, orbital doomsday weapon, or the less realistic, but even cooler man portable variety...
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Okay, now that sounds pretty darn cool. So long as it's not used against me, I like it. XD
Nah, this is messing with you:
I thought it had something to do with trains... ;D
Note:
Hey, now. You didn't even tell us there were new peoples in the Extras page. ;D
I didn't say, last night, 'cuz I was rushed off, but now I've said it.
-
I believe the "Rail" part actually comes from early designs based on European magnetic train rails.
Where are there new people on an extras page?
-
Cast page, I think she meant. I put both Issac and Ace in there, and never said anything.
-
Oops... I did do that... >.<
Sorry, I'm completely oblivious, sometimes.
But yes, he put them there and didn't say anything.
Heh... you're doing a lot of late, of late. Some might think you're doing it on purpose?.. ;D
-
Doing a lot...on purpose.
No, I'd never get anything done if I could help it. :P
I'm going to assume that you meant putting things up without mentioning them, but if that's the case, then no, not really. I've been uploading from random places, at random times. In most of those cases, I uploaded them between classes, so I didn't have time to post here before class, and then I forgot to say anything when I did log in here.
-
... Oops. That sounded smart.
*Snrk!* >.<
Oh, and I forgot to ask...
Are those bullet holes in the door?... ;D
-
Hmm...
-
...
'Kay, and now you are ignoring me. :P
::)
I get that a lot. But then I think that should be expected, considering my tendencies with question-asking.
-
No, not ignoring. I had to go back and look...
And yes, those are s'posed to be bullet holes.
-
Heh. ;D
I expected being ignored... XD
'Kay, I've been wondering for a while (again... I seem to almost always have these questions in advance, and just take a while getting to ask them... :P )
When you refer to Rithiel, what does "Clause 5" mean?
Or is that one you might iognore?... XD
-
Ah, back to traditional ignorance...
-
:P
'Kay, well I really expected that one. ::)
...
I'm still really curious as to how you made that background...? XD
-
Which background?
-
The one in the lates update, with all the shades of blue. ;D
-
Ah.
I updated my Paint.Net. It had a shiny new texture render feature, so I played with it.
-
Heh. ;D
What does it do, exactly? Just looks all twisty and spirally to me... XD
-
Um...makes an infinitely repeating texture...thing.
-
*Snrk*
Descriptive. ;D
But enough so, I guess.
Is there a reason some of the cast members have their card-like bits outlined with black, and others with white?
I bet if there is, you won't tell me... :P
But... if you won't tell me, then I'll know that there is. ;D
Otherwise... well, it was just a strange observation.
-
I don't really know exactly what it does. It's some mathematical thing that ends up repeating within itself infinitely.
No, I just used white on some and black on the others. Not really any method to my madness.
Just FYI, I was really tempted to not say anything, and see how you responded...
-
*Snrk.* >.<
Hahaha, very funny. :P ;D
Hey... were the cast-bits supposed to resemble cards?...
-
Hmm...
-
And again I double post.
Pending Else updates again!
This one should give you some stuff to talk about in the "Don't Tell Me" thread...
-
Heh. ;D
Not tonight. I'm getting hurried off, by my Mom... >.<
Arg.
But, heh, you heard some of my responses, already. :)
The "old-guy" appearance still impresses me. ;D
-
Are the red artifacts around the edges of his glasses done by dropping a red layer behind the frame, or did you burn/dodge the sketch layers to get that?
It's clearly intentional, I just want to know how you did it.
-
There's a partially transparent layer of red beneath the frames, but on top of the layers that give them their color.
Technically, there are 2 layers, but the yellow is a bit more transparent, and less noticeable.
-
Hey Dragyn!
You probably don't remember me, as I just popped in once or twice over a year ago. Anyway, I thought I'd check back on things and was sad to see Beastling on hiatus. But then pleasantly surprised to find you working on PE.
Cool story so far! Particularly love the cool-creepiness of page 13. I can't help but get the feeling absolute craziness is going to happen to poor Issac. ;)
-
Oh, I remember you just fine. I've even been reading Crimson Flag already. Good work on that, by the way, and keep it up.
Cool-creepiness, huh? Not familiar with the term, though I guess it fits...
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Heh. I remember you, too, even. I guess this is one of those forums that, once you're on, you'll be hard pressed to be forgotten. =J
Hm... so do you think you're much near continuing Beastling?
Or have you had much time, for that?
-
Haven't really worked at it, recently. Between PE and homework, I'm already behind schedule...
-
Ugh. Homework is a pain. I have great distaste for it. XP
Well, I'm sure you'll get back around to it, sooner or later. =J
And PE is still progressing. :)
-
Comic is coming, Really!
I've already got it colored, and 1.37 layers of shading are done. It'd be coming faster, but I usually end up using my computer time on either Homework (Computer Science is fun, but there's a lot of time invested), or on playing with my friends.
Yeah, priorities. I know.
But it will get done!
On a related note, Old Man Graves is a pain to color and shade...
-
And Double post!
Comic's up! Mr Graves might be time consuming, but that sure doesn't mean he's not a fun character...
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
'Kay now that probably re-opens the theories. XD
Hahaha, that guy gets pretty energetic for his age, when he's desperate, at least. I can see why he'd be fun to draw. ;D
-
Hmm...
Anyway, the next page after this one is sketched, and the frames are in place. Progress!
Finals week is coming up, though, so don't expect too much...
-
Heh. :D
'Kay, I'll wait, then. :P
Good luck with finals. ;D
-
Phew.
I haven't updated since FINALS?
Geez...
Ah well, first update of the year! (Page 15)
I'd guess Issac just accepts EULAs without reading them, too...
Ya' know, coating Issac in mud was more fun than I'd've expected...
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Great... XD
Somehow... I thought that would happen. XP
Yet, the apparent responsibilities, I did not predict. O.o
Hm... didn't he settle on 10, in the last one?
Yes, I bet that would be fun. XD
Hm... I've never really tried that, to be quite honest. Now I want to. ;D
But I've been busy drawing these things for the Robotics. Maybe I should put something of that in here, to show that I actually have been doing something, of late. :P
Anyway; nice. Glad to see more updates from you. ^_^
Would that vehicle be the one previously beside the shack? If so, I am completely surprised that anyone would drive that, or that it would even run... XD
-
It would, yes. Grave's Jeep-thing is a bit old, but it's his, so he drives it.
For the record, and to avoid anyone pointing out my mistakes, I can't draw the machinery beneath any sort of vehicle, so I just drew random stuff to make it look a bit less blank. Don't expect to find any sort of accuracy, there.
-
Heh. :D
Oh; so you know, I wasn't saying anything about that. ;D
I was noting the irregular angle of the vehicle. XD
I guess it would be an interesting ride... =D
Anyway, nice, and I'm looking forward to the next one. ^_^
It's at an interesting part!
If it were a book it would be one of those parts where you don't stop reading. :P :)
-
Unfortunately, this is a webcomic-in-progress, so you sorta' have to stop reading...
Unless, of course, you're just re-reading...
-
*Snrk*
I know... :P ;D
Meh. This way there are neat pictures. :)
-
The only thing worse than a EULA that makes you wear a squid on your head, is one that makes you wear a crown.
-
*Laugh!!!* XD
Um... where exactly did you get that...? :P
-
It's a gag from an old webcomic, that I can no longer find, or even quite remember the name of.
A character agreed to a EULA, without reading it, and was forced to wear a squid on his head, whenever he used the software in question.
-
Was that one from User Friendly?
-
No.
It was the one with the pig (Preston?) and the dog and the cat(Katrina?) and the annoying little mouse, who didn't read EULAs. I keep thinking "Fuzzy Technology", but all that brings up is a Randy Glasbergen collection.
That was one of the first webcomics I read, and it's a bummer I can't seem to find it anymore.
Farewell, noble tale of mice with squids on their heads... :'(
-
Anyway...
Next comic's up! Page 16!
This comic doesn't really have a punchline, but Issac's face in the 6th frame amuses me, nonetheless.
-
Could you drop a link to the front page whenever you do that, so people can just click the page up from the announcement that it exists?
I know it's not a big deal, but I'd appreciate it at least.
Any chance we'll get to know what those marks on his face are? They look like mud of grease, but they seem to have appeared as soon as he signed the contract and darkened constantly ever since.
-
Uh, they're just mud. He rubbed his face whilst signing the contract.
They're only getting darker, 'cuz a certain artist is getting sloppy.
-
Hmm...
Well, 2 updates in the first month...
Pending Else (http://beastling.xepher.net/PE) has updated again. I'm on a roll, or something!
-
The Berry Flavored Demon of Evil has appeared!
-
Er, yeah. Kheros has finally showed up.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
I love how his pupils suddenly get so huge. XD
(Yeah, I'm an update late on the responding... :P )
Hm...
Doesn't his signature serve the same purpose?
Heh.
Kheros's appearance is neat. ;D
Or I suppose you can go by Blood's title for him... XD :D
Hehehe. I wonder if Kheros'll ever live that'n down... :P :)
I like the layout for this'n.
Heh.
The last few bits made me think of an arched and framed window.
-
The arched window was deliberate. It doesn't mean anything, I just always thought that pattern was cool.
Poor, poor Kheros...
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
The keys are fun, too, though. ;D
-
Hmm...
The next page (a splash page, be ye warned) would be up, but Xepher.net's having a bit of trouble, right now. Xepher himself has been advised, so odds are it'll be taken care of by the end of the week.
So yeah...update when Xepher gets the SCP back up.
-
And Updated!
I told you he'd have it fixed by the end of the week...
Pending Else (http://beastling.xepher.net/PE) updated, as I said, with a splash page. Fun to draw...
For the record, it's not that I don't understand the laws of perspective, I just have much more fun when I break 'em.
-
It looks as a castle should. Large and spooky
-
It's like the Luxor!
Really nice page, here. Mm..wish I had a castle. D:
-
Whoa. Trippy.
You remember the filler cam, at the end of Full Metal Alchemist? --Not that trippy, but close.
If I can't have an enormous underground complex, buried under miles of granite, I want a castle.
-
And Update! (http://beastling.xepher.net/PE)
Not sure how I feel about this one. It's not bad, I guess, but...I just don't like the end result.
I like each panel, individually, but, together, I'm just not feelin' it.
Kheros is, as ever, fun to draw, and Issac's face continues to amuse me.
The observant will notice that Ceviel's color scheme has changed since last time (http://beastling.xepher.net/extrahalloween%2706.html) I drew him. The reasons for this are twofold--one, last time I drew Ceviel in color, I was using colored pencils, and didn't have the right colors. Second, I felt Ceviel's color scheme was too...cheery...for the character himself, so I used more subdued colors.
Besides, grave clothes are usually black, not blue, and that's sorta' the impression I'm after, here...
-
Is Issac's cross supposed to be that color?
-
Issac's cross is transparent. I used to fill it with a partially transparent white color, which always made it look light blue, but that took a lot more time than I felt it needed, so I haven't been doing that, recently.
I probably should keep doing it, but...eh, we'll see.
-
Heh. :D
I like it...
Heh.
Kheros's expressions are great. XD
Also, how Ceviel shows up is fun. :)
-
Hmm...
I've been cleaning up the Cast Page (http://beastling.xepher.net/PE/cast.php) for Pending Else. It's been a bit messy, so I cleaned it up. I added Ceviel's page while I was at it.
All the cards look the same, now, and I fixed Ace and Rithiel's pages so they have the proper glow effect.
Odds are I'll be replacing Kheros' page at some point, as well as our friend The Mysterious. I hope to add Vapyr's page soon, as well.
-
...Yeah, no updates in a while...
The next comic is (finally) sketched, and I hope to get it inked and colored soon, but we'll see.
At least the hard part's done...now comes the time consuming bit...
-
Neat. ;D
Looking forward to it. ;)
-
Update your comic, or I am taking back my gameboy.
Seriously man, what gives?
-
*Laugh!!!* ;D
Sorry, Dragyn, that makes me laugh. :P
-
Tell ya' what, Blood. You stay off my computer, and maybe I'll manage to actually get some comic work done.
You can have your Gameboy back. I already beat that Castlevania game, anyway.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Hm...
I need to do some computer work... :P
I also need to get another source of work... T.T
But that's different.
-
Progress is going well on the next comic. Ya'll can sorta' track progress on the news fader, though I somehow doubt it'll always be up to date.
I might've gotten more done on the comic, but instead I stayed up all night and wrote a program.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
For what?
-
For practice.
-
Neat. :)
What was the program's function?
-
It let you fight an infinite amount of text-only monsters.
New PE page up! Lots of text on this one!
As ever, the page can be seen here (http://beastling.xepher.net/PE/).
Dang...has it really been 5 months since I last updated?
That...is pretty sad.
Only Issac's eye's have shading. Read into that as you will.
-
Yeah..I tend to lose track of time, with my comics, too. I just get carried away, chattering with friends, and compulsively doodling.
Anyway. Nice comic. The shading seems..different..but in a good way. A very good way. I also love Issac's expression, in that last panel. It made me giggle. x3
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
Agreed.
On the shading and Isaac's expression. XD
I also like how Isaac is looking over-all. The hair and face/expressions are great. :)
Text monsters?
Like...?
-
New page up! (http://beastling.xepher.net/PE)
I'm quite happy with this one. Let's see if I can get the next one done by the first of September (at the latest)!
Text Monsters: Monsters consisting entirely of a boring block of text--no pictures involved.
-
Poor Isaac just can't seem to get a break. :U
I'm seriously liking Kheros more & more, every time I see him.
-
Ghostly demon child, awakens you in the night.
Mwahahahah!
I bet he moves upstairs for the next night.
-
*Laugh!!!* :D
That's pretty good. :P
Hehehehe.
